I was quite shocked to learn that many people in the drug community are against legalization for many drugs,

I support complete legalization of all drugs.

I'm with you.

The figures here are weird. Do 58% of BL'ers ONLY really support the legalization of cannabis? In my country, UK, the figure has been higher than that when the whole country gets surveyed.

I can't believe that BLers would still consider Prohibition of ANY drug!! Don't you think that each individual should be able to use their own will-power & have access to any substance they desire?
I would assume that 75% of us have the common-sense to not get TOO into any addictive drug...but even if they do, having it at their disposal at any pharmacy sure as hell beats buying their dope off some scumbag thug on the street.
The quality would be undeniably high...there wouldn't be any reason for street gangs to peddle their wares, since people can buy it in the drug stores. Even if someone got strung-out, they'd always have access to their preference. If they wanted to quit, there could be facilities for detoxing.
I don't believe in govts telling the citizens what's good & bad for them. It's your body...you should be able to put anything you want in it...just as long as you're not hurting anyone else.

Legalize all. People should have the right to have the choice of what they want to use. The war on drugs is a failure. They may aswell have a controlled market and tax the drugs and build schools and hospitals.

so you do not believe total legalization of all drugs would have repercussions? there are a lot of idiots out there, for example, LSD in the pharmacy? sure it would kick ass but I know many people that would take it far too much, the only reason they don't at the moment is because it only comes around a few times a year, due to prohibition.. I personally would legalize weed and heroin, as that would improve community relations with the police and help addicts (for H)..

EDIT : I would legalize MDMA as well, as it being illegal certainly causes more problems (sketchy pills etc)

I would say that that is precisely the problem with the prohibition of all drugs, not just the ones you mention. It is the fact that these substances are illegal that causes the problem. People will always be idiots, but education is the answer. Not prohibition :).

yeah, I suppose.. I just always think to myself that if I'm totally honest, I do not think every drug out there should be legal and available. It would be great, and many (maybe even the majority) of people would be OK and it would be a benefit.. but I know people that would ruin themselves if every chem on erowid was suddenly available for money. seriously.. I am very annoyed by the current mainstream viewpoint on drugs and the damaging 'we can wipe it out' mentality of law enforcement. nevertheless I believe total legalization of every drug would have very negative consequences for the world

I would legalize all drugs.
Fuck it...

I think people should be able to do whatever they damn please. It would be safer if the stuff were controlled and the purity was the same every time. I think initially there would be more ODs, but the strong will survive. And those who did happen to get addicted wouldn't have to financially destroy themselves to support a habit. People shouldn't be thrown in jail for using drugs. It shouldn't be a legal issue, it should be a mental health issue. Help should be provided for those who need it.

If I want a shot of heroin I should be able to go buy it from the store and know exactly what I am getting and not have to depend on some sketchy dealer who will cut my stuff with god knows what.

But they already are available for money. And people already ruin themselves. On balance, harm reduction takes precedent - legalise all and provide proper education. Short-term problems are a given, but in the long-term the situation would right itself and a balance would be found. The novelty would wear off and these substances would just be another part of life.

I believe that legalisation would encourage the sensible and safe use of drugs :).

I understand fully what you are saying shambles, but I'm still not convinced.. I mean, legal D MT? the 'average' drug user can't get hold of shit like that, but if they could many would try it.. I just think total legalisation iwould benefit some, but others it would totally fuck up, thats why I only think heroin, cannabis and MDMA (and related chems like 2c-B) should be available legally.. :)

yeah, if any brits want to to actually do something about the drug laws instead of mumbling on forums (fantastic as bluelight is) then ive set up a petition to the PM, although its currently a little sparse in members...... the basic jist is that the government should legalise everything less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco (which would include LSD, E, ketamine, weed......the list goes on.) anyway, take a look, please sign :) http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/drugsoverhaul/

I think terms like "'average' drug user" are a little pejorative personally. I am a drug user and I am average in many ways.

You mentioned DMT... it found me recently and I think everybody should try it... but that is purely a personal opinion :).

I just don't see the seperation. MDMA and 2CB okay, but DMT (and other "obscure" chems - remember MDMA and 2CB are mighty scarce to some folks) not? What's the difference? How come it's okay for you but not for others? You got value from these substances. So did I. Why deprive others?

People are more intelligent than other people think.

That's the way I see it anyway :).

OK shambles, you are an average drug user, but the vast majority of people who take drugs don't go on BL, or even do any reading on the drugs they take. many people on BL can get hold of exotic drugs like DMT, but most drug users cannot (that was what I meant :)) if all drugs were not only legal, but available from shops, I am convinced many more people would try them.. and yes, for a lot of people total legalization would be a good thing, but I know many people that already take psychedelics too often, and a massive increase in availability wouldn't help at all..

don't get me wrong, it would be great, but I personally think extreme caution should be used if legalizing drugs like LSD.. even myself; I think I would start tripping too often if Boots had everything from acid to DMT. and I know many on here probably can get acid all year round, but I can't, and I am not convinced that it being legal would cause less damage and harm than its current underground status.. I do have a passionate hatred for the drug laws, particularly on weed, but I am still not for total legalization.. its a good debate tho :)

^ It is a good debate :).

Precisely. Currently the vast majority of people who use drugs are uneducated on the subject - they take things with no idea of quality (or even what the substance actually is or what it really does) and are essentially clueless. If all were legal then people would know what the are taking and why - there would be no need for BL :).

To clarify a little, I'm not suggesting that all drugs should be legalised tomorrow as that would obviously cause huge problems. What I would like to see is a staggered legalisation starting with the most likely candidates (heroin would be the obvious example) in tandem with a massive increase in education and harm reduction resources. Eventually - many years in the future - all drugs would be available to all.

It would take time and resources, and there would be massive problems in the short term but, in a generation or two's time, our decendants will look back on these years with the same sense of bemusement as we look back to alcohol prohibition - a futile and damaging exercise in stupidity :).

I really don't see that there is any other option, nor should there be. Prohibition causes nothing but misery for millions and I just can't understand why anyone would be in favour of keeping such a pointless policy.

Well... I can live in optimistic hope for a brighter future I suppose 8).

I would legalize everything. Or decriminalize at the very least.

If one chooses to alter their mind, I say let them. As long as violence is left out of the equation, it's all good in the hood.

But if I really had to choose just one. I would choose heroin. This way I could stop getting locked up all the god damn time!
