Warning about new party drug in Sydney-Red mitsibishi

^Ah, everyone knows the West Australian's written by half a dozen one armed monkeys with broken typewriters ;)

Despite all the inaccurate reporting flying about, I hope everyone will be especially careful tonight and tomorrow night at events! Please keep an eye on your friends and if they start displaying signs of confusion and/or overheating, get medical assistance immediately.

I'm attending a big event tonight and fingers crossed there are no major incidents :)

Why dont we put the overdoses down to inexperience and misuse of a party drug than speculate PMA. One MITZI is enough for inexperienced users let alone three in one hit. Everyone gets comfortable with MD and they think its safe and they can push there boundaries. Every now and again decent pills pop up and people get themselves into trouble, They should get a feel for a single dose before redosing. Common sense seems to fail in most overdose cases.

This is sticking ur head in the sand if I have ever heard it! I PERSONALLY nursed one of these guys in saint vincents hospital, we were flat out keeping his temperature under 40 degrees for 4 days!!
He had absolutely no reason to lie to us about taking MAOI's or DXM or anything of that nature, I grilled him personally about it. There is a dodgey batch people.

Peace

Really helping harm-reduction this one, no helpful details whatsoever,

I love it...

Guys, before you go off on a "they don;t know what they are talking about tangent...just keep it in context.

1) The people at St Vincents save a hell of a lot of people who mess up on party drugs. But see it from their point of view, if they have four people in in a week or two all with a history of a Red Mitsubishi, their obvious reaction is to tell people it is bad and they have a reasonabe justification for doing that.

2) The media as a rule don;t know much about party drugs so they rely upon people with an insight into the issue to guide them. In Sydney there are a few people, however Paul Dillon and I have both been in the US for the last couple of weeks, so the number of regular media contacts who tend to keep these things in context have been limited in Sydney.

3) You must keep things medical people say in context. You have seen Dr. Platypus on with information and nothing he has said has been sensationalist or anti-pill. This is the basic deal,l there has been an increase in pill related medical emergencies, they all seem to be linked by patient history to the Red Mitsubishi. Do we know if they have PMA? No, we don't have the forensic evidence yet to say this BUT we can say the reaction people have had are consistent with the effects of PMA. SO the message is "people have gotten sick, Red Mitsubishis appear to be involved, we don;t know if it is PMA but we are trying to find out, be on the safe side, avoid Red Mitsubishis". This is a standard public health approach to anything. If we had four children show up serious ill who had all come into contact with a particular brand of face paint, but weren;t sure if it was the face pain that did it, we would do EXACTLY the same thing - say there was an issue, say we arenlt sure but have suspicions and advise people to stay away from that product until we are sure.

Remember, there are a lot of pill in the big wide world. We are just saying that until we know more, it is probably wise to stay away from THIS ONE.

Cheers,

Buck

PS And before anyone thinks I am a public health Nazi, I stood in front of a room full of DEA agents last week and stuck for this web site and managed not to end up in prison!

buck_reed: Wasnt a dig at the public heatlh system, i can only imagine how hard it must be for the doctors etc at St Vincent

More that the paper didnt even describe the pill at all, how does that help anyone?

You should be appreciative of witnessing the time of change. Years ago police publicly stated PMA pills were circulating, yet deliberately with held all information to help avoid them. Indeed there is a change in the air..

I hope this dosn't sound like a silly question, but I bought a tester on the weekend (Mandelin) and tested some of these Red Mits which I got my hands on.
Now this is the first time I am using a test kit so I followed the insturctions and watched the color change, Color change from Purple to black in about 7 seconds, indicating MDMA.

My question is how do I know if there are other substances in it mixed in with the MDMA, the instructions on the tester says it should turn green to orange to brown if there is PMA present. But if there is MDMA the color should be purple to black.
So what Im asking is, what if both substances are presant? what color will the tester show up?
and just because mine tested positive for MDMA, dose that mean there is no PMA or any other substance in it?
Please advise..
Thanks

One of the recognised limitations of most spot reagents is that with a mixture of 2 or more drugs, a darker reaction product colour will often obscure a lighter one.

This is the case with PMA which turns a green-brown, easily hidden by a simultaneous purple-black colour change caused by MDMA.

By also employing amine tests, it is possible to indicate the possible presence of PMA and MDMA, but a mixture of MDMA and MDA will give a similar result.

Identifying a PMXX/ MDXX is difficult at present. Rest assured though that steps are being taken towards improving the identification of PMA by using more selective reagents.

What the fuck is the ecstasy three triangle symbol suppose to mean. Mitsubishi=Ecstasy?????

if we wanna get really technical too, a mitsubishi symbol is three diamonds, not three triangles....

i had 2 mitsis on the weekend in melbourne.
well the first one was very odd, as i didn't peak at all, however i was very very high. also i was sweating quite a lot from dancing quite little. so first one was quite a scary thing as i didn't test it. felt really tired and wanted to sit and chill. (weak legs)

second one was good md as it was quite different from the first one, peaked hard for more than an hour, but still in control, mild visuals, eyes rolled.
very chargy. overall second one was good. i dropped it around 3 am and went on all the way till 7. totally clean comedown. mild scateredness.

now the scary bit.
just after i dropped the second one i had some water (warm- i did't know)
as my body was hot, the warm water had some sort of effect and i felt like i had to vomit but i am paranoid about vomitting so i didn't
went to ravesafe and then went to first aid. and the dude told me that the warm water on a hot body caused this vomittiing to happen.

so in other words, 2 pills one dodgey and one good.

on the other hand my friend had 3, and after the night i told him the reactions of PMA and he said it was exactly what i said. he also told me he was out for 2 hours, couldn't move, do nothing but i wasn't around and he didnt tell anything. if i knew something elso could have been done.

a+

p.s my temperature was 37.2 - normal and blood pressure normal. (can't remember reading)

Just heard on triple j about the death of a sydney girl on the weekend who took half a red mitsi. :(

Here is an article from the sydney morning herald:

Red Mitsubishi tablet claims life of teenager
By Matthew Thompson
October 6, 2004

A teenage girl died in Sydney at the weekend from a suspected overdose of a drug mistaken by users for ecstasy.

The so-called "red Mistubishi" pills emerged after a series of overdoses in Sydney and one death in Adelaide. Several Sydney users had been hospitalised after apparently taking the drug in recent weeks.

The 19-year-old woman from western Sydney fell ill after apparently taking half a tablet last Friday. She was taken to Nepean Hospital where she died on Sunday, police said yesterday.

Medical experts had issued warnings about para-methoxyamphetamine (PMA), marketed as red Mitsubishi, before Saturday night's Sleaze Ball amid fears of its widespread use at a dance party attended by several thousand people.

A PMA user almost died at St Vincent's a fortnight ago. Doctors fought to resuscitate him in the hospital's intensive care ward.

"We got him around but it was touch-and-go there for at least 24 hours," the director of emergency services, Gordian Fulde, told the Herald last week.

As with a handful of other overdose victims treated over the past two weeks, he believes the man had taken the hallucinogen, which increases blood pressure, temperature and pulse rates.

"When it goes bad it acts very differently on the patient than any of the other [recreational] drugs. None of the other ones melt you down like that," Professor Fulde said. "Basically what happens is you just cook from inside. The actual machinery inside each cell just melts down and bursts and that is the end of it."

Professor Fulde said yesterday that the feared influx of users from the Sleaze Ball had not materialised. While "we got a whole swag of people who were worried that they had taken red Mitsubishis, it turned out they hadn't and none went to intensive care".

The director of the alcohol and drug service at St Vincent's, Alex Wodak, said that because the blackmarket drug manufacturing was inherently unreliable, testing kits were worth trialing.

"We should be doing whatever we can to try and prevent these deaths," Dr Wodak said.

Everyone be careful! Test your pills!

Will the mandelin reagent pick up PMA in these pills?

or is it likely to be a PMA/MDMA mix, and hide the PMA result?

Get an Extreme tester. *blurb*

EZ Test XTREME consists of 3 different tests: Marquis, Simon's and Robadope. By cross-referencing the outcomes you will know whether your pill has been mixed.

As robadope reagant result *blurb* again :
ROBADOPE'S : a noticeable color CHANGE to reddish/purple indicates the presence of a primary amine. (MDA, dex-Amphetamine, PMA, 2C-B, DOB or waste product from the production process.)

A friend is getting them tomorrow.

I can get extreme from enlightenment, but I don't know how long it will take.

I can get Mandelin and Marquis today from Brisbane city.

I'm after something before the weekend...

I personally think arguments of batches is dangerous and people should just stear clear of Mitsi's, its not worth the risk...

BUT looking at the Sydney Morning Herald (known as a reliable publication) *ahem*

It said "a whole swag of people who were worried that they had taken red Mitsubishis, it turned out they hadn't and none went to intensive care"

Is the hospital assuming because these people didnt react badly they didnt have Mitsi's? Seems like fallacious reasoning to me.

And sounds like the worried individuals didnt have the "bad" batch if one exists

I too read this, And its sad to hear. My condolence goes out to the girls friends and family.

Its pissing me off that people are still writing up reports about these on pillreports. THINK about it people, IS you life worth a $30-$40 ??? Go with out or goet something diffarent.

Archie:-

Scarab in the city sells E1 and E2 (another name for Marquis and Mandelin)
Central Station Records sell Marquis and Mandelin

I'm not aware of any stores in Brisbane selling Simons and Robadub(spelling?). I think that Cowboy Mac etc. have tried to emphasise that Marquis and Mandelin are not suitable by themselves to identify PMA so be careful.

Nice Tits
