TV: Top Chef - Season 4

Ok...now I kinda feel like a jerk. I didn't know the story behind it and why she chose not to cover it. She had quite a struggle with it through time.

i like richard being in the finals. i really don't like lisa or her attitude.
as much as i like richard and many of his clean dishes... it would be nice to see a girl win top chef for the first time.
it is nice to see richard and stephanie that both have the ability to cook more than one concept or tradition of food. while richard likes gastronomy he can also make simple dishes without all the out there things. stephanie sees like she has a wide spectrum she can also pull from unlike ilan last year who only did spanish.

^ ditto on Blaze and Lisa. I think one thing Richard learned on Top Chef that helped him to the top was to be true to yourself and your own favor of cooking. Will we see a female win, although that would be great, I doubt it. But I'm ok with Richard. :D

Ah, so I am the only east coaster who has seen the winner? I was actually surprised to see who won.........I'll leave it at that, and discuss why later.

That said, I didn't see anything special out of this season which stood above previous seasons. You could say both Hung and Richard have similar skill sets, with Hung having better knife skills.

Call me a fayg, but I really liked Dale from season 3. His dishes seemed clean, simple, and at times hearty. I would compare him to Stephanie from the current season........or maybe Antonia.

I was also a fan of Brian from season 3, probably because I like seafood so much. I'm gonna have to find his recipe for the seafood sausage somewhere.

Too bad I don't have mad cash to blow every night experimenting on food.

Tomorrow I'm throwing down a real BBQ, ribs and chicken......soaked hickory chips for the smoke. Gotta keep the temp down.....slow and low. I don't even like cooking the food over top of the coals. I push the coals to the side and let the steamy smoke do all the work. It's gonna be a fun 5 hours tomorrow.........I'll be sure to have plenty of bud light handy.

Ilan was 2 years ago. Hung won last year.

I'd like to learn spanish flavors.......I'd also like to learn some bangin knife skills.........I'd like a bangin set of knives........Santa?

The finale was not exciting at all. I thought last years finale was much more interesting and the food looked better...you didn't have any of the guest chefs saying anything really great about it, however, I am happy with the winner. [spoil]Can't wait to eat at the restaurant she will be opening next spring. I had read something earlier about her looking around the city for restaurant space, so I had kind of assumed she won before last night. Chicago Top Chef won by a Chicagoan. Fucking win.[/spoil]

Going to all that trouble so you can wash it down with...bud light? ;)

It's gotta be light beer, it's hot out here today, and bud is my preference. Actually, out of all light beers, I like amstel best for flavor, but when it is hot, bud is the most refreshing.

I was only surprised because I thought one of the other competitors prepared a better overall 4 course meal in that competition.

As far as throwing down some great stuff throughout the whole season, I think the best person won.

[spoil]Man...I would have been pissed if Lisa had won. She sucked it up the whole season. I understand that last challenge is important, but it would have been quite shitty to not look at a competitor's performance throughout the competition.[/spoil]

Pabst. :D

Or Yuengling. Sadly, I can't buy it where I am.

Yeah if a certain finalist had won I prolly woulda never watched again. I'm happy with how it turned out. Have no clue how Lisa even made it. How many times was she at the bottom this season? Guess she stepped up when it mattered, but you gotta think the judges knew about her 'tude and know that would never fly in a real kitchen. Then again, maybe that's how THEY are in their kitchens....

So I've often wondered...Padma is the only judge that has no real chef or food experience. She's basically there to be "the looks". Do you think Tom (who can be quite an asshole)or any of the other judges ever look at her like "What the hell are you talking about? Leave this to the experts." Or if she actually has a script or something....

i don't think she's there just for her looks. she's the host and she does pretty good job of that. that said, she's a published food author:

She has also been a guest host on parts of the British culinary tourism show Planet Food, hosting the segments on India and Spain. Her second cookbook Tangy, Tart, Hot and Sweet was released October 2, 2007.

I *love* this show! Loyal viewer since season 2. But this season was lackluster. I much preferred the live reveal last year -- added some fun. I heard they are doing a Teen Top Chef! That could be interesting... d-r-a-m-a.

And btw AR I think it's kinda hottractive.

Does Padma's scar bother me? No.

But the winner this year deserved it ;) so I'm satisfied!!

im very ehhhh over the finale and winner.
lisa did better than i expected. richard's confession was a bit crazy. and seriously how many times did he pull out his banana 'scallop'? im surprised they didnt rip him for it after seeing it three or so times.

If you are into kitchen shows like me, maybe you would like a little side of drama.
I never thought the kitchen and sex could go together, but in Kitchen Confidential they do.
kitchens and sex? if youve worked in the industry, in the back, you see it all the time. restaurants are dens of sexual tension and infidelities. i heard that the rest/cook biz has the second highest divorce rate of all professions. sure, some of it has to do with the long, hard hours and the stress... but a few cocktails and blow jobs from servers don't help either.

Well Richard said he had a baby on the way. I guess when he said he wanted to go home and make little blazes after the kid's challange he wan't kidding.
[spoil]I would have really liked to see Richard win. But he was right, he choked. :( I didn't like Steph to start with but throughout the show you learn to like her. I'm glad to see a woman win kinda, and thank god it wasn't Lisa[/spoil]

Mods*** I don't know how to make the background black...maybe you could help?

Said BBQ was delayed until today. I currently smell of a campfire. I've never really worked with hickory chips before, but I now realize that if you ever had pork that was pink in color, that's the smoke at work. I never expected the meat to change color when smoked.

And, no Yuengling either. My brother bought Miller Light, so it will have to do. The ribs take several hours on the cool side of the grill. I'm throwing down some hot sausage links and eventually chicken to hold me over. i <3 MEATFEST
