Trump has told the UK to sort our own oil supply through the strait of Hormuz!

I think we got some of our jet fuel from the gulf. But it only makes up about 8 - 12 % of our total fuel supply apparently. So shouldn't be that much a huge big deal for us. But the reduction in the global supply pushes prices higher, so we get screwed a bit more indirectly from this.

Jet fuel isn't particularly refined. Jet-A1 is basically kerosine.

Of course the Russians developed a higher density aviation fuel and obviously Ukraine destoryed the single facility that made the HDJF (T-6 and T-8). Obviously Russian military aircraft cas use regular TS-1, but range and power suffer (a bit).

Sure, prices in the UK are certain to go up. But it's nations like Germany who are really going to struggle.

Typical innit. For once Brexit offers a potential benefit. Still, even a broken clock tells the right time once a day...
 
Starmer is seeking to re-engage and re-strengthen the UK's ties and co-operation with Europe once again, mainly citing military security right now. I can't recall if he also mentioned closer trade relations, and seeking to re-strengthen those. I think he did, in view of the fuel situation, IIRC.

To be fair, him and / or his advisors and team, do seem to be making good decisions and statements regarding important issues of foreign policy, and sticking by them.

I only wish the same could be said for the party's domestic policies.

Well, @Bleaney - I'm glad you said that. At the moment if Starmer does something, it's wrong, if he does not do something, it's wrong.

But over the current sihtshow that is the US/Israeli war on Iran, I think Starmer called it just about right. RAF Akrotiri had already been attacked by Iranian backed Hezbollah BEFORE Starmer opened up UK airbases to US assets. The Royal Navy has an attack submarine and three SWEEP systems in theatre. It's not a secret as such, it just doesn't make 'interesting' news. Not going on TV and social media to tell your opponent you next move is not, in my opinion, in the best interest of the service personnel involved.

Although the USA and Israel did start the problems in the strait with their attacks on Iran, and Iran has effectively closed the vital strait in retaliation.

Yeah the USA wanted to change the regime, but Iran was bound to play whatever cards it had to play.

Don't try and see where Trump is coming from; he playing 5d connect 4, you wont get it -- He has done nothing but talk shit about you guys and Europe in general --- dude hates NATO and the UN openly. (Dont even think we are in the UN anymore?)

We have the board of peace though -- which historically is the more effective of the two peacekeeping bodies! That 8 day run without war from it's inception is pretty imppressive.....Nah we dont need you guys at all.

ahh my mistake/misread I thought you said he should shove his rusty sheriff's badge up his arse

ps - he was not on the epstein list that was a peter mandelson, apologies.... They keep is pretty US'entric over here.
(Starmer is facing calls to resign over appointing mandelson, or was when the article I read was wrote.....be nice to see some consequence over here!)

No, ironically Starmer is far, far less interesting than that. He was a barrister for a couple of decades.

It does strike me as funny that people point out he defended protestors while a barrister only to castigate protestors as a politician.

This is a classic straw man.

A defence lawyer's job is to research and present a person's legal defence as best they are able to. They don't necessarily BELIEVE a person is innocent, but as long as the defendent does not admit guilt to the lawyer, their role is to be a professional who builds the best defence possible, regardless of opinion - it's the jury who decides if a person is guilty or innocent (or 'not proven' in Scotland).

The fact people don't even understand the legal process is worrying.
 
Thank you for the quick --- id say refresher but it is honestly new info, thank you even moreso I suppose.

RE: defense lawyers/barristers: It is just as bad in the US and they get portrayed even worse in the media (Not that there aren't some seedy lawyers, I did laugh pretty hard the first time i heard "You dont need a criminal defense attorney, you need a criminal who is a criminal defense attorney" or w/e they said on 'better call saul'

But yea they are generally perceived as villians and almost co-conspirators if the case gets enough attention (Johnny Cochran) --- When the reality is you have to be VERY CAREFUL what you disclose to your lawyer as ultimately his/her loyalty is to the law over you......even with confidentiality there are things you cannot tell them or they droppin the case and washing there hands of you.

I imagine this isnt always the case but certainly was with two of the three defense attorneys I have ever hired --- the Dude that is NOW considered the best in town was truly on board and helpful the FIRST TIME I hired him when he was still junior partner and hungry --- second time I hired him he literally lives in a full on castle with two sauna's inside it and not so great results. Could never get ahold of him.

The third fcking guy literally did not learn my name in the year before sentencing and him sending me an email by the wrong name telling me to calm down was enough to get a stay to hire a new lawyer. Dude was already paid in full though and lawyered his way to deleting my review warning people that he did not learn my name in a full year of contact....

Last Wednesday I only had 20 miles left in van and out of 3 fuel stations in my town ,2 were shut completely and 1 only had 1 pump working
Just managed to get
I haven't filled up since so it's maybe fine now

It was something like 'you don't need a criminal Lawyer, you need a Criminal lawyer.' It was all in the emphasis and timing. Typically clever of the Saul Goodman character.
