Trump has told the UK to sort our own oil supply through the strait of Hormuz!

all I know is my weekly shopping has skyrocketed.

And we basically cannot afford to drive anywhere most of the time as we have a fucking diesel car lmfao..

I don’t mean to make any claims out of ignorance, but many times I look at food in supermarkets and see food that could of been cultivated at home that has been imported.

Our government is so useless in many ways but we rely so much on import it exacerbates me.

As left as i tend to lean, I’ve always felt we should be more isolationist and do as much as we can on our own. Shut ourselves of on this fucking island and fuck it all off. Always getting involved in shit we don’t need to and even if we don’t get involved the public suffer due to external reliance!

I don’t have a answer for the oil mind you, but it’s just ridiculous that the economy is so reliant on outward factors all the time.

Interesting update from Offshore Energy UK yesterday:

Official projections show several billion barrels of oil and gas still expected to be produced between now and 2050. Independent analysis commissioned by OEUK shows that, with the right conditions, significantly more could be delivered from known projects and discoveries.

Proof that different studies can come to very different conclusions, depending on multiple factors.

Without a broad consensus of studies, how do we know which ones are more accurate in their predictions or analysis?

It's clear that the future is in renewables, with all that clean wind energy in particular that we can harness, whilst probably causing the least damage to the environment and wildlife, out of all available options in the UK, and off our shores.

(Obviously seeing as we're not blessed with a particularly sunny climate on average, we can't rely too much on solar energy, not at huge scales at least.)

(Although the effect of wind farms on decimating flocks of migrating birds for example is alarming, and huge projects need to be set up outside of known migration routes, where possible.)

I know it's customary to blame Thatcher, but without her we would possibly have something close to the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund from the proceeds of oil and gas, albeit probably significantly smaller. The Norwegian fund is worth approximately two trillion dollars. That's almost 340,000 dollars per Norwegian citizen.

Instead, Auld Maggie decides this is too close to socialism, and we end up selling it off because neoliberalism is so wonderful. But the proceeds are largely squandered on unemployment benefits because the manufacturing sector was decimated, again all planned as part of a neoliberal agenda. Oh, and of course it also financed tax cuts for the wealthy.

Thanks Maggie, you dead bitch.

But how would that help our energy bills? Oil is traded at a set global price - you dont get one country going "Pssst, wanna buy some cheap oil mate?".

All the north sea oil fields are owned by global companies who do not give a fucking flying toss about the UK. They'll just add it to their stock and sell it wherever they like. There's zero chance of them giving it to us for cheap.

The link is definitely biased, being an oil and gas trade association. But short of forced nationalisation (which won't happen) there's not much we can do about the present situation.

It's crazy how the people who piled on Biden for being senile (which may well be true to some extent) are fully supportive of a guy who's exhibiting what seriously looks like dementia.

If Iran was smart they woulda destroyed all the industry in the middle east and made nukes a while ago. They have a bunch incompetent leaders and Mossad agents like Russia.
To be fair the opposition isn't the brightest. Greatest country in the world, military intelligence, and you still drop a bomb on a fucking school. Great intel there, lads. Was the barracks really that important? I guess it was Republican, so maybe they were jealous.

Oh, when the hell are people going to get off the whole "he's senile" thing. That was Biden's bag. Trump's evil, maybe a bit worse for wear, but he's not degenerative dementia'ing. He's getting old like everybody. Don't give him an inch, especially a dementia diagnosis.

There basically daisy cutting them like vietnam before they do a ground invasion luckily they have their missles underground. There doing slightly better than I thought they would there dumbasses though they go on TV and announce who there gonna hit next similar tactic as Russia only they dont let their red lines get crossed as much and basically do nothing. Thats what the perpetual war machine does though weaken a country through NGOs and liberalization put in incompetent leaders like Yeltsin,Gorbachev, and now Putin and lukashenko then attack them knowing they wont fight back. Russia is basically a testing ground for the great reset like Israel and Ukraine.

You do know who backed the October the 7th invasion, don't you? Yep. Iran.

More civilians were killed in one day than all paramilitary groups in Ireland over thirty years.
What are you talking about? Iran,Syria, and Hezbollah basically left them in the lurch for Israeli slaughter.

Just saying. The same Mossad that pulled this off couldn't have found a better way of taking out Iran's zealots and missiles programs?

Nope.

And you're basically glossing over the Israeli civilians who were killed, kidnapped, tortured and raped.

I know quite a few decent Muslims, but I had to ignore some of them because of the mental gymnastics they were using to blame Israel for the whole business.

The Israeli reaction was utterly deplorable, but it doesn't retrospectively justify killing innocent people. Hamas can fuck off and die.

I get that it's hard to separate the Hamas and the Hezbollah from the HALAL. They play those kind of tricks because just like street gangs having kids run their guns and drugs, they know they can get away with it. But still, "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility".

They didn't do any kind of torture that I believe, they fed and watered them. Lets say they did do thats kinda the consequences for what you guys been doing to them for decades.

Fed and watered? As in didn't leave them to die, but provided the barest essentials? That's because the hostages had no value to them if they died.

I've had my extremist phase and I don't scare easily, but the amount and content of propaganda that a Muslim friend was sending me was seriously disturbing.

According to some of it, October the 7th was staged. I was even sent 'evidence' of Israeli soldiers making a boy pose as if he was dead. It was actually a scene from a film and the boy was playing a Palestinian. A thirty second fact check would've told them that, but they desperately wanted to believe.
