Triple J Hottest 100 - 2007

I wish they had mini clips for each song because a lot of the time I'm sitting there thinking, 'Is that the one that goes dole do ba bow?'

I need to pay more attention.

Okay, I'll post this here for posterity (and then maybe edit it later.)

Architecture In Helsinki - Heart It Races
I saw these guys twice this year. At Manning they blew my mind. At the Enmore they were a lot of fun but ultimately underwhelming. Smaller shows = better shows for them.

Bloc Party - I Still Remember
I'm still in love with this album. I think they've got heart and this song definitely gets me every time.

CSS - Let's Make Love & Listen To Death From Above
I found them on myspace thanks to bonde do role. It's fun and my favourite people quote this song a lot.

Digitalism - Pogo
This song got me through work on so many days. I'm pissed off I missed them but then I'm not so good at 'doing' festivals anymore. How can you not smile and chair dance when Pogo plays?

Fratellis - Flathead
Fuck Ipod. This is Purple Sneakers laughter gin smoked immature goodness.

Kings Of Leon - On Call
Besides Clap Your Hands Say Yeah these guys are probably my favourite band. A lot of people think them generic but I bet noone who saw them live thought that. I still love Aha Shake Heartbreak more as an album but this song is magic.

Klaxons - Atlantis To Interzone
I think I was the oldest person at the Klaxons gig at the Enmore but fuckit. I still fell in love with all of them (and this is them at their best.)

Midnight Juggernauts - Tombstone
Second best gig of the year. Holy shit they were awesome. Nothing to write home about as the support for Bloc Party but at the Metro they blew my mind and reminded me why it's important to spend as much money as you have on live music.

New Young Pony Club - The Bomb
It's not really a party without NYPC. I even had the sticker stuck to my wallet for the better part of the year.

Sparkadia - Morning Light
So preacha wrote the following on my myspace (RIP myspace) about this song:

"how come every song you have on your page always sounds the same? some random wanker with a fake accent backed my guitars that have the treble turned to 11 because it's just that much more hardcore that way

get into dashboard confessional again :(
i kid"

So I chose it to spite him. He totally cares. I know these things.

aww....when he's extra snappy tom you know he means it with love.

i would like to vote this year....I need someone to send me a reminder or something.

and I need someone to do a pros and cons list.

If you kids don't stop fighting I'll turn this car around! - Vanth

I actually like preacha so I don't really know why you keep editing shit. It's preacha ffs!

MP I'll be your quality control officer. FYI no Tegan and Sara

like you can only pick 10 of the masses of quality tunes this year...

I created some bogus hotmail accounts and voted for about 50...

I know I'm a cheat but hey, who's triple j to say I can only vote for 10...

^ I was seriously considering doing that this year. But then I knew I'd feel bad so didn't. When did I become so "nice"?

Finally got mine down

It was hard and I hated letting some songs go and I dont think this is a true and honest representation on what I really loved this year, they really need to open the fucker up to 25 or 50 votes!

anyways...

Against Me! - White People For Peace

This song just rocked it. Loved booting up the volume on this one each and everytime it came on. The Against me show in Sydney was one of my top shows of the year.

Arcade Fire - No Cars Go

Arcade Fire was the band that after months and months finally just hit me full on in the face. I love these guys now and they just shat out gold all year, this I guess was just my fave of the lot.

Bloc Party - Hunting For Witches

Same goes for Bloc Party as it did for Arcade Fire. Whilst I was a massive fan of Bloc Party already, when this song first got played I gave it a very lack lustre response. After the third time though, bang I was on top of this song like you couldn't believe. All of the Bloc Party songs listed for selection this year are worthy

Cold War Kids - Hospital Beds

Another band that produced gold this year, this song was my fave of the lot.

Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (live)

What more can I say about this. The minute that Alive 2007 album kicked of with "Roooooo-boooooot" I got goose bumps. The actual show in December, fucking hell - enuff said!

Expatriate - Crazy

Just loved this song and this band.

I Heart Hiroshima - Punks

Loved this one for its cool laid back appeal. "Dont close your doors I got these punks on the ropes"

Kings Of Leon - Black Thumbnail

Dirty, filthy rock from the brothers

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye

Just for the early/mid 90's appeal it oooooooozed

Unwritten Law - Shoulda Known Better

Just like the first selection, this one just rocked... pure and simple!

Trivia
This is the first time in over ten years that The Living End did not feature in The Hottest 100. Thank. Fuck.

i was so happy that silverchair didnt win

which kinda made it obvious that muse were going to win...

i was bouncing around the unit i was at when straight lines started at number 2...

going to be a decent CD

Even though I didn't vote for it I don't mind that Muse's Knights of Cydonia won.

Something about that song really reminds me of the sound chip in the Commodore 64 and that is most definitely a good thing.

I really like the Cold War Kids song too. Although the song We Used To Vacation off the same album is much better.

Silverchair I've always hated.

3 or 4 of the songs I voted for came in the top 100. Honestly, I had never heard that Muse song and had never really heard much of their stuff.

Good to see alot of Aussie bands right up there.

The only Muse song I've liked so far has been Map of the Problematique. Highly recommend it if you haven't already heard it. I don't listen to much of their stuff either.

You can hear it here, played over a really cool clip of a street luge through the mountains of some European country, think it's Switzerland.
