The travel thread

That's what I thought, a simple search on google shows that jews are allowed in, but people trying to get in with israeli passports don't have much chance.

Whoremoaning: "What law."I said it pretty explicitly. Just as it says. 7 Arab Nations prohibit Jews from even using their airlines. Now in real terms there is no way to enforce it unless someone is religiously attired, but I myself tried using the UAE flagline and they would not book me based on my name. I have a US passport as well as an Israeli and used my American passport on the booking (Manila to Dubai, to US).

Their prices are decent but fuc^ all that Big Brother invasive nonsense.

Cannot transit their airport, cannot enter their shi%hole of a country (any nation that uses Pakistanis for 2 US a day to construct a fuc^ing beach that will have artifical breezes is full of shi% in my book anyway but that is another issue altogether.

I'd imagine ex-Israeli soldiers are not high on the list of people they want in their country. Maybe they'd read your posts on BL? ;)

What do you reckon they stand for?

Before this gets out of control and people start saying I have an issue with muslims or people of the middle eastern descent, i dont (just a disclaimer because i know how things are around here lately with all this politically correct malarkey!)

anyway from what i have read on various media mediums, the country is built on capatailst principals due to the vast oil reserves they have, yet they still hire immigrants to work for little pay in terrible coniditions (some of which kill themselves due to the conditions - apparently its been reported that many of them run in front of cars on the freeways so that their families still get their insurance money) - also their backward laws regarding drugs and alcohol and their treatment of people who commit these 'offenses' really irritates me.

and if the above statement of not allowing jewish people into their country and on their airlines is true, then this is completely unacceptable in my book.

Hahah, i wasn't about to accuse you of being anti-Arab!!

They have quite harsh drug laws, but then so does Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

As for booze, considering it is against the national religion they have quite a liberal policy. You don't ever have a problem getting pissed in Dubai, unless you act like a cunt. Which to me id fair enough.

The immigrants issue is bad....i've never heard that insurance story, but they do get paid a pittance and it does get fucking hot out there.

Jewish people are allowed in the country, but they frown on Israeli's. And considering the treatment of fellow Arabs (Palestinians) by Israeli's, I guess that is no surprise really.

hehe i know, i was just being extra careful.. ya know how it is around here lately ;)

Yeah thats understandable I guess.

I just got the impression that they BANNED ALL jews from the other guys post. Obviously he took it out of context.

Whoremoaning: Sorry, your Google search is incorrect. it is in the country's equivalent of a Constitution. Jews are NOT ALLOWED to cross the border. The Moanarchy CHOOSES to extend the prohibition to companies carrying the flag, including airlines. The reason WHY it is on Google is because people try to act like the prohibition against Israeli passport holders is not racist. Fact is, review the brouhaha when an Jewish American diplomat tried to escort outgoing Sec. of State Rice to the country. That should give some good reading.

Felix: Haha that damed "Shift" key. Too fast for my own good!

Nah. I've done business with a few Jewish people in Dubai.

I'm actually looking forward to my next trip out there. Loads of chilling by the pool, hot weather and no baby waking me up at 7am every morning!!!

Kid: ANY Israeli is prohibited, even a 6 month old so maybe you want to rethink that ditty. NO foreign nations are barred from entering Israel on the basis of nationality, not Saudi, not Iranian, not Dubai citizens. Think on that one.

Also think about why a Jewish American diplomat who has never even been to Israel is barried form entering their country.

Aside from that FACT, it is an actual law so it is non-issue as far as debating it.

RedArrow: I happen to agree with your setniments. Fact is, living in the Philippines I am all too aware of how it treats foreigners, especially those working there. it pays less than 2 US per day, often 1 dollar but even though it reprresents what a Filipino could make here, it is steady work so people take it. They have terrible contracts, employers abuse most (not all) "Guest WorkerS" to the point of rape and physical assault, and it is one Arab country that has not done away with slavery although they, like the Saudis outlawed it on paper 3 decades ago. They OWN people.

I abhor the country on many levels, none of which has to do with my ethnicity, nationality, OR religion although that certainly does do much to endear the nation to me.

Kid: "Problem getting urine tested.": It would behoove you to, at the very least, research the story I told. The woman was a professional, well behaved who was tested because her pupils were pinned (constricted) and at the Oimmigration kiosk they flagged her on her pupils,. You are correct that this also happens in other countries but then when it is explained, and an ambassador concurs it is smoothed over. Not the case there. Granted, it is not going to be universally applied but then neither will someone be shot automatically walking in Gaza. The risk is there and that is enough for rational people when it is a very real risk.

"Frown on Israelis." NO- THEY PROHIBIT THEM BY LAW. "Frowning" would be discouraging., HUGE DIFFERENCE.

ALSO- JEWS ARE PROHIBITED, just as in 6 other Arab Nations. No offence but please do your homeowrk. You been there maybe once? Twice? Maybe never? Ask some Jews, ask some citizens of the country, research it.

You have done business with Jews in Dubai? Sorry, but i doubt it although I do know some who go, for business and other reasons. Only thing is, they cannot tell officials that they are Jews. Funny you would not see a problem with that.

I have no knowledge of the Rice issue, so can't comment.

As for Israeli's, why should they let 6 month old kids in and not adults? If they find the way Israeli's treat Palestinians to be abhorent, then banning them from their country seems fair enough to me.

Does Israel let Palestinians freely enter their country? I would have thought not.......

As for the slave labour thing, I think it's nasty. But as you say, the workers go for such low wages as it is what they can receive in their own country but it's steady work. It doesn't make it right, but you can see why it happens.

It is certainly a persons' right to go anywhere, sit by the pool, oggle womena nd have a good time...EVEN AS people, the majority, sit in absolute abhorrent and dejected poverty eating one meal of boiled white rice per day, without access to even aspirin, babies syingm, people being literally bought and sold, and so on.

I love it when people brag on coming to this country. They go to Borocay, a world class resort, the scuba, or they hit bars in Angeles City on Luzon, getting cheap girls and they brag. I wish that such people could spend 12 hours with me, come watch a woman give birth on a bamboo floor without aspirin, and watch her die as she struggles to give birth for a baby too big for a 14 year old body. Watch people dieing from diseases that you never even heard of because they have been exitinct in your country for 60 years or more. Watch kids smart as a whip who will live and die in a single valley, never even seeing more than 3 villages from their birthplace and tell me that you enjoyed poolside drinks.

I am certainly a minority but I will be honest, I find it revolting. To each their own.

What are you on about???? I think you are mistaking me for someone else.

I generally go about 5 times a year. Funnily enough, I don't make a point of asking immigration if they mind letting Jews in.....

So you doubt if I do business with Jews in Dubai, but then you state you know some who go to Dubai for business reasons?? You're just a walking contradiction!! ;)

Rachamim speaks more truth than any google seach result :p

I've been to Dubai, didn't really like it much. Coupled with the fact I despise the way they go about their drug policy, I'm pretty certain I'll never go back.

Hahah.

Fair enough on the drugs policy. But to a lot of people, and for a lot of their target tourist market, it is a good policy.

What is strange, is when i'm out there drinking with people who'd all be pill heads or on the charlie back home, not one of them ever goes near drugs. You can get pills over there, although it's mainly the Lebanese who are involved in the house scene who are popping them. And even then it's fairly rare.

eDDe: "This is not a 'Foreign Relations' thread.": Absolutely correct. However, threads have a way of evolving and should be allowed to do so. That said, I certainly do not want this one to devolve into a discussion about Israel, and so will do my best to ignore whatever comments do not have to do with Dubai, etc.

Kid: "Why 6 months olds, etc.": The point, which seems to be lost on you is that NO ISRAELI IS ALLOWED IN. You posted that they "probably take issue with Israeli soldiers." I clarified the point.

I agree, some go on their free will but I can assure that almost all have no idea what they will find. They are usually the uneducated, no exposure to information, etc. Even if they knew, it is criminal and there is NO excuse, even if by their own volition.

"Kid goes about 5 times a year but does not make a point of asking about their policies on admitting Jews.": EXACTLY. I am blessed in having a fully Jewish name (Rachamim Ra'anan Ben Ami). ido not have your luxury.

"Walking cotradictions.": Nope, I merely doubt YOU do buisness with them. As I said, I know Jews who do make money there but they are forced to do by denying , or at least hiding who they are. There is a reason why most uf us use 3 names by the way. Our religious name, our Jewish name for everday usage, and the name we use with outsiders. It is a cold world. I make a conscious decison to use my real name, and have both passports in my actual name.

Whore: As I so often say, I hope noone ever believes a word I say, only that theu research the issue in depth (maning more than punshing in one key phrase to Google) and find out facts on tier own. I never lie but in any issue people need to find out things on their own to be sure of the truth. I notice that while you have taken the time to insult me and post cutsie smilies, you have not taken the same amount to time to BEGIN researching this issue. Shame really.

As for the last post, pon drugs. I am told by those that go that there is no shortage of drugs, cocaine and MDMA being the most popular, but they even have heroin. However, it is mostly relegated to Dubai citizens who because they live in a very well susidised economy are all rather wll off and well connected. Foreigners sometimes imbibie but horrid results can ensue. Shari'ia is not fun.

I have researched it, I checked several websites and your statement that jewish people aren't allowed into dubai, which you later changed to israeli people (which is true when using an israeli passport), isn't true.

While they might get harassed trying to get in because of their name, they aren't banned, which is proved by thekid saying he's worked with jewish people in dubai and the accounts of jewish people that have posted on the internet saying they've been fine.

If you look into google there are a lot posts by jewish people (mainly non-israelis) asking if they'll get into trouble in dubai for being jewish. the answer is always no.

I'm not insulting you, I'm just saying you're wrong.
