The travel thread

The Jewish folk I deal with do all have rather more European sounding names than yourself. They are all making a nice crust out there, so I guess it makes sense not to go around shouting who they are.

Anyway, the travel thread is being rather derailed here...so back on topic.....the worst smoking area in any airport for me is the one in Bahrain!

I liked the one in Singapore, it was an outdoor area iirc, was pretty dazed at the time, it was my first and only long haul flight.

There were a couple of other places I remember being tiny fucking rooms crammed with people smoking looking miserable, and another place with lots of SE Asian guys and slutty women piled around them, felt pretty out of place :D gonna see if i can find the flight itinerary cause i can't remember where I was :(

Slutty women in smoking rooms? Sound alright to me! :)

I don't remember the Singapore one..maybe it's not there anymore. I was there in January, and I remember having a smoke out the front of the terminal, but not inside. I was very hungover though.....

I seem to rememeber you can go for a swim in departures in Singapore?

Zurich used to have a nice smoking area. And Amsterdam airport has those quality umbrella type things you can stand under when you are waiting for your bags! :)

changing flights in amsterdam a member of staff told me to smoke in the toilets and nobody would notice/mind hah

heathrow and gatwick both used to have horrible little segregated rooms where cunts were squashed in smoking in non ventalated areas, was miserable with a comedown..

one time after coming striahg to LGW after a all night rave and lots of chemicals we realised we didnt have a penny between us to pay for our checked bag, we managed to blag the bag back as we stood there with huge eyes and sweat dripping off us... found 10 euro in my side pocked which i changed and had enuff money to get some cans of strongbow, only realised that i was carrying 4 cans of strong cider past the desk where we just blagged our checked luggage back from for free ha ha.....
didnt go down to well and have a memory of standing in the smoking area at gatwick in a horrible condition drinking warm cans of cider (in a vain effort to make me feel better) while sweating with the heat and lack of air vents.

lovely =D

Hahah, you got to love the Dutch!!!

Just before it got banned, Gatwick used to have some pod thing in the middle of departures where everyone stood and strong blowers stopped the smoke going anywhere. That was cool! :)

Whore: No, I did not change it. I suggest you read my posts a bit more carefully. Since you have checked, although it cannot have been actual research since all of one hour has elapsed, I will find the law and post it from mainstream sources.

The insult is not about you challenging a fact I provide but about your ACTUAL insult. In any event, it is certainly not worth my time to clariy it. i am sure you are well aware of what you post.

In any event, as I said, I will provide you with mainstream sources. Curiosity wise, do you consider one hour of "several" web page skimming to be a way in which it ascertain important (or should be important) information? I always say, to each their own (oh how I hate saying it but it is life after all), but you just might want to think about that for a second. On some decisons it might end up causing you alot of grief.

On other notes, I am glad smoking is internationally banned now, on international travel. Still hate taking Aeroflot domestically in Russia and the former USSR but I heard even they are fgoing to ban it so who knows.

Rachamim, i'm looking forward to seeing you post that law, as everything i have read has said Jews are not banned from Dubai.

I agree that planes are much nicer now that smoking has been banned, but i think banning it from all airports (as in the UK) is a bit harsh. It's not as if non-smokers would ever want to have ventured in the smoking areas anyway!!

yeah thats the thing i was on about, altho when i was there it wasnt well ventilated.. it was a little thing where u stand and it has all perspex screens up on the sides, cud have been a diff terminal i was in tho

Surely they will have to ban it due to safety concerns, if they even exist in russian aviation. When the cabin is pressurised to 10,000ft things tend to ignite rather quickly in the event of a fire!!

It did make you feel a bit like you were in a zoo, which i can imagine wasn't great on a comedown!

The air quality on planes was better when smoking was allowed. The crappy air quality since the ban is thought to have caused the rise in DVT and general health issues. Smoking is just good, m'kay? :D

Also, try to keep the international incidents to a minimum, folks. This is a travel thread for travel talk :)

Hahah, i'm not sure I believe you!

PS It's good to have incidents in all types of thread. ;)

The smoking room in Bahrain was fucking shit! It was just this crappy glass room with dick-all ventilation, but there were loads of people around so most were just smoking "near" the room or outside it, which seemed to be good enough. I don't like standing round other people all blowing smoke inside all over me anyway, I reserve the right for that to be my personal privilege... :D

good idea!

the worst one i've ever been is Bangkok. tiny as fuck, no working air-con, crammed full of people. the poor cleaner had to wear a face mask when she came in to empty the ashtray.
And Amsterdam airport has those quality umbrella type things you can stand under when you are waiting for your bags! :)
i've been in schiphol a few times in the past 3 months and i don't remember seeing them. i've always had to wait until i got outside.

hehe. same in the company airport* in angola. it must have been the only place in angola where smoking was 'banned', but the amount of people trooping into the bogs made it look like they were handing out free charlie in there. :D

* yes, they are so fucking useless in angola, the oil company bought 6 aeroplanes and operate their own airport (for flights over the Congo to Cabinda). cos lord knows the angolans can't be trusted to run a fucking bath, let alone get any flights away on time.

HAHA! I see you've been enjoying Africa Felix lol.

hehe, i could write a book mate. but i would probably get classed as 'racist' so i'll keep my thoughts to myself. ;)

put it this way: they don't exactly do much to negate the stereotypes that your average racist fuckwit likes to propagate. :|

Last time I was there was Nov 2006. As you went through passport control and walked forward to the luggage carousels i think you go down a couple of steps, and the smoking things were on your left.

thank god someone is here to provide up to date, factual information. ;)

i'm pretty sure they don't allow smoking in frankfurt or dusseldorf either. in fact, definitely not, they have a smoking ban in public places in germany too. (thankfully they don't enforce it in bars and restaurants, in the wee town i was in at least.)

Hahaha, i do my best!

I was in Munich and Stuttgart for the World Cup in 2006, and I don't think they allowed smoking either.;)

EDIT: They banned smoking in Schipol in July 2008.
