The travel thread

We are also in the cheeky weekend planning stage ;)

When are you thinking?

We went in May last year, before it really kicked off. Still had a great time. Pacha was open on Saturday's but no drugs about inside so no use for us! We ended up in a little club called Hush in San An most nights which was quality. Not sure what it would be like during the "season" though.

Decent MDMA and coke, even at that time of the year.

Might be cheaper to get one of those 90 day (I think) European rail passes that allow for unlimited travel on the train for £90 or something

It costs £300 for a monthly unlimited European rail pass, so it's definitely not £90 for 90 days. :\

heh, i doubt that very much. i've never been to the hebrides before. they are still pretty religious over there, i don't think the pubs or shops open on Sundays. and if you're an unmarried couple looking to stay in a hotel or B&B, you better pretend you're married or you'll be in separate rooms. 8o

so there are some travel tips. :D

I *had* a friend last year who lived in Stornoway. According to her people would look down on you if you even dared to cut your grass or hang your washing out on a Sunday so I'd imagine pubs being open are a definite no no. 8)

What a fuckin miserable place. :D

I was just going on what some of my girlfriend's friends said.

Then again, they were 17 at the time.. might be cheaper than 300?

Under 26s count as youth, you get a youth 2nd class pass for just under £300.

There only good value for money if you plan to travel often and mostly in Western Europe. I've worked out that I probably will be cheaper not to bother with one and just buy train tickets when I need them.

Hitch hiking is quite difficult in most parts of Europe I believe.

It's only been a few years in Guernsey since pubs were allowed to open on a Sunday. Only shops under a certain size can open even now. And it's only since the pubs have been open that you can buy petrol on a Sunday.

Some bloke went to jail a few years ago for opening his video store on a Sunday.

It used to be really easy in Germany. But i am going back about 15 years!

^ Ha! You should work for the Channel Island tourist board, Mr Kid, you really should :D.

Every tale you tell of those charming little islands just fills me with a burning desire to live there :D.

Opening a video shop on a Sunday! Sacrilige! Should've burned the heathen cunt, that's what I say!

It's unreal isn't it?

Just tried to pack my rucksack and can't get everything in and I didn't even think I was taking much. :\

I'll need to have a re-think of what's going and what's not.

Hahahah, as i'm typing i'm looking out the window, there isn't a cloud in the sky, the sea looks great and i casn see one of the other islands in the distance. I spent Sat and Sun drinking outside, spending wages that had just been taxed at a flat rate of 20%. So it aint all bad!!!

Hahah, i'm sure a few days/weeks ago you said it would only be half full.

So I thought, until I got the rucksack.

My mate had bought the same one, he's been away since end of May and wont be home till end of August, and he reckoned his was only half full. He must have literally took nothing because it's not that big a bag.

I'd love to ditch the trainers, jeans and hooded top which would give me some more room and just swan around in shorts, flip flops and t-shits for the whole month but something tells me they'll come in handy.

I take it all back then. Sounds like heaven :D. And also, like heaven, it's shut on a Sunday ;).

Why, you going on the rob when you are out there?

I'm coming around to the view that Channel Island life is like the mythical "Britain of 50 years ago" that blue-rinse types go misty-eyed over. Nothing you say is changing that opinion ;).

I should probably go and find out for myself really. I bet it's, as you said, pretty fuckin' gorgeous this time of year. If a little rammed with tourists :\. Much like here really - can hardly move for bloody tourists (gawd bless 'em for saving the rural economy) in town today :D.

On second thoughts, I'd probably be arrested, held in maximum security storage and then deported from whence I came if I were to ever wander part-way across the Channel...

^ Hahha, there's hardly any tourists as its cheaper to fly to Benidorm. All we have left is cruise liners. And they are generally full of Yanks or Old Yanks.
