The travel thread

You're right you can. :)

Sri Lanka was also mentioned by my father as a possible Xmas jaunt. As was Cuba, Japan, India, Bali (again) and many other places. I hope we go somewhere. :)

Hungary, eh, Jude? Always fancied that myself, but not got there yet - hope you have fun :)

I have been to Budapest a few years back, just after xmas, but since then I have become good friends with some young (the same age as me Kara) Hungarians from villages near lake Balaron and two of them are coming on this trip with us.

Only real expenses are going to be petrol. I reckon four tanks should do it either direction and petrol is cheaper in mainland Europe. It's about 1000 miles each way and the car does 25mpg :! Split four ways it's not so bad.

Sailing just before midnight on Thursday week, Dunkirk by 3am, Belgium by 3.35am and then onwards through Germany and Austria with a view to hitting our destination by 3pm that afternoon.

We have six days of swims, walks and some rowing and fishing planned along with two days of caning it, Hungarian style, at some little party my mates know. Cannot wait:D

That some airlines make you show your credit card to prevent fraud. The card holder doesn't have to be the one flying

Try flying Qatar. They always ask for your card.

Hopefully RyanAir aren't arsed I booked it on my mothers card. :\

Prob charge you extra.

Flybe are fuckin cunts. They charge a credit card fee per passenger, per sector.
And £20 to take my baby son who is 5 months old and will be sat on my lap. And he doesn't get a fuckin luggage allowance either.

^ No you don't. You pay a fortune with flybe. £280 for a 35 min day return last week. That's with no hold luggage. I defo didn't get what i paid for. No drink, no nothing. Low cost my arse!

I've decided on my october trip. Prague, Vienna, Bratislava then Budapest. Might swap Vienna and Bratislava around as I reckon Vienna will have better links to Budapest.

Flybe are such cunts they don't even both hiding it in the small print. Unfortuantely i don't have much choice and have to fly with them a lot.

which is why you should just go with BA.

sorry if i repeat myself. ;)

And pay more than double the price for the pleasure, no thanks. I'll stick with my dodgy budget airline which fly into airports miles outside the place you actually want to go and charges you for checking bags on etc. Still works out waaaaaay cheaper which is all I'm interested in plus BA make you change at Heathrow so what should take a couple hours ends up taking all day.

your worrying me people. If I book a flight off my dad's card I will be expected to produce the credit card at check in?
much thankers

I've had emergency flights booked for me by other people from the country I was not currently staying in on their credit/debit card and never needed to produce said card at check in. Things may all have changed now?

My dad flew Paris last week on a pre-booked flight using easyjet and all he was asked to take was his passport and tickets that he received to his address in the post. No mention of checking credit card details.

I guess as long as you have the travel documents and research your airline carefully BEFORE booking!

^ I think most UK airlines are ok. I've travelled Easyjet, Flybe and BA in the last few months who defo didn't need the card. But long haul i've had to show the card on Qatar and Singapore and maybe on Cathay (was a bit pissed when i turned up for that one so don't really remember!) :)

To be honest, i'm not sure what they can do if they ask for it and you haven't got it anyway.

^Exactly.

"I didn't book the ticket, here check my driving license and passport"

What are they going to do? How could anyone travel through business if you have to use a personal card?
