The official No Limit Texas Hold 'Em thread

not sure.....although i do know he eliminated a few ppl yesterday.

i do know he was seated at the same table as mimi tran yesterday and was chattin' it up with her.

also he lost another 50k and he's now down to around 250k in chips.

2. payout is @ $45k.

3. my buddy still has around 250k chips

Not a bad ROI. Did he buy in directly or go the Satellite route?
 
he entered a online satellite. buy in was $370....i think there were like 7,000 ppl entered.

top 250 ppl won $11,000....obviously he was one of the top 250 ppl.

he took $10,000 and bought himself in to event 55(main event).

apparently he lost $5,000 in a cash game the night he got to vegas though.

and he also lost $800 playing blackjack right after he busted out of the main event.

I have another lol hand:

I'm on the button and limp with Q4 clubs (lots of limpers).
Flop is KQ5 with one club. Checked around to 5th to act, who bets 60 (pot is 180). I call, and 3 others call.
Turn is 5 (not club). First to act bets 20 (into 360 pot). Two callers. I figure I need a Q to win, but it's so cheap to call that I do.
River is the Q. I have a full house and I'm only losing to 55.
First to act bets 20. It's folded to me, I raise 160. FTA re-raises, I re-raise, he goes all in.

I show Q4, giving me QQQ55.
He shows 33, giving him QQ55K. His cards don't play at all - he can't beat the board! At best, he has a split pot. Against any logical hand, he loses.
 
In the final satellite for a seat to the aussie millions...3000 person comp. Was in the top 100~ or so all game, get down to 200 runners. I have 89s in MP, limp in. Flop comes TJQ of spades, flopped a monster. Someone bets out, I re-raise..someone shoves over the top. I insta call, they have A2o with the Ace of spades...King comes out onthe river. I actually broke my mouse after that bad beat :P

On topic of what I am attempting to improve, is obv. tilting and also patience.

You had 89 spades, or 89 suited? Guy hit top straight on the river, or a straight flush?

If it was just straight over straight, then that's rough, but he had 12 outs twice to beat you. If he hit the only card that would beat you, then ouch, bad luck :)

(I got wiped out in my last game straight over straight, by someone who called with two overcards after I flopped a straight, and hit a runner runner straight :()
 
alasdairm: how is the wsop coverage this year? more of the same coin flip footage, or are they actually showing poker this year?
 
Just thought I would share some poker software I have started using for a few days now. The first is RealTime http://www.mediafire.com/?2yjjumbcxlm. RealTime is a freeHUD that you can use on Stars, FTP, and Party. It runs way smoother than PT/PAHUD, not as customizable. It is a stand alone program, you do not need to use it with Poker Tracker. The second is HoldemManager(BETA) http://www.holdemmanager.net/. This is a free Beta, but you will have to pay for the program when it is officaly released. Holdem Manager is like Poker Tracker, but with better speeds and easier to use. The program will eventually have a built in HUD and a hand re player with HUD stats. This program will be well worth the $100 or bucks when it is released.
 
Just won 2600 US in a tournie today! Got first place in a 24+2. Not too shabby.
 
the wsop coverage of the '07 main event is just finishing up on espn. i know what we're seeing is about 1% of 1% of the action but my main conclusion is that most players these days manage to exhibit a complete lack of class.

hevad khan is a clown who doesn't know how to behave around a poker table. annoying.

i was also intrigued to see one hand where lee watkinson was all-in against jerry yang. watkinson's tourney on the line. yang is praying out loud at the side of the table to jesus christ asking him to "show them one of your miracles". at the same time, watkinson's girlfriend was basically praying for lee's opponent to be smited. that seems like rather shabby use of ones deity to me :)

I'm going to congratulate myself here and report my biggest ever poker win - not a lot by the standards of some of you, but I'm happy: $120 from a $1 rebuys tournament on Absolute. I hardly played a hand for 2 hours, and then had a succession of good luck with the odd bit of good play. Especially satisfying was knocking out a tough, aggressive player who would re-raise with anything, when I flopped a set of kings.

I have now (finally!) achieved a profit on my online poker play :)

I know what you mean about lack of class.. time was, poker was a rogues game, but if you stuck within the rules, they played like gentlemen.

However, the days of the riverboat gamblers are long gone, and we are stuck with the new world order of flashing lights and pushy personalities. I like watching High Stakes Poker because generally its run by Doyle Brunson, who will call the players to order if they are getting out of hand.

Because he is, well, Doyle Brunson, they listen.
 
damn. this thread is great. i know we've all been there when you just sat there and felt like a train just hit you.

this one hand, i had pocket 4's. i raise and have 1 caller. the flop comes out 4 6 6. i was sitting down like sweet, i just flopped a boat. wanting to keepo the other guy in i just raised 20 bucks and he calls. turn is an 8. now i want to try and start collecting money off this guy. i raise 60 and he re-raises me 300. now im over there just rattling my brains out trying to think what he has. took me a while but i called. he shows his pocket 8's. river comes up a 2 and i lost that hand. i tried to make myself feel better by saying that it was all of his money first, but it didnt work. lol
 
Bump for more skiting: came second in a $5 buy-in with 350 entries - won myself $260. Since the start of November I've turned $10 into $460, pretty happy with that :). Especially as I'd gone out on the bubble, or just in the money, in three or four tournaments in a row, each time when I'd gone all-in and had the best hand when called.

I just need to learn how to get aggressive, how to play back at someone who's bullying me. Any tips? (I was basically card dead and the chip leader was betting 3-4xBB on something like half the hands. With me only holding 10xBB or thereabouts, can I re-raise with nothing and hope he folds?).

How are you guys doing?
 
i was in florida recetly and played in a hard rock casino there. at $100, it was the most expensive buy-in i've played in.

46 played and it payed 5 places. my first 3 hands were AA, KK and AK so, while i didn't get much action, i was feeling lucky. i went out in 7th place - just two off the money which is always frustrating.

my last hand was AA which got cracked by a guy who called my all-in with 10-8 off-suit and caught two tens.it was really frustrating as he limped (along with 2 others i think) in the small blind and he only just had me covered. my all-in was a pretty good raise so it was a surprising call. just my luck.

i've been doing 'just ok' on line. need to raise my game :)
