the official NCAA football thread

the Buckeyes would rape Georgia, they are far too one-dimensional to win on the big stage like that.

with that being said, I love Georgia and LSU - both are my two favorite teams in the SEC. I hope Kentucky takes care of Tenn so LSU plays a more worthy opponent in UGA than Tenn. is LSU even that good this year, though? they have played horribly sloppy at times and for as much as I always give them credit I am sitting on them, thinking "is this really the number 1 team in the nation?"

as an OSU fan I hope WVU loses. shoot, I bet most people on here hope that WVU loses. they do not belong anywhere near the National Championship game.

anyways, I can't wait to just sit back and watch some great football the next two weeks. specially some games from you all down South :) good luck to all our teams, gentlemen, I just hope the two best teams get to play in the NC.

True but dont you think if either Kansas and/or Hawaii played 6 ranked opponents (a la LSU) this season that they would still be undefeated..

As I said before, WHO you play means shit this year, as with the examples I listed (Illinios def. OSU, Stanford def. USC, Appalachian State def. UM, etc) Those should be "gimme" wins - but nothing is guaranteed. OSU could have played every division III tech-school wanna bes and not been guaranteed a win every time. No team is "guaranteed" a win against ANY opponent. Which is why the team that wins EVERY game, despite their schedule, should be #1. Any team can lose on any given week...

I'm curious, given BA's logic, if he had UF as number one until they lost their first game. I mean, at that point, everybody is even, so how do you put one team ahead of another? Going without a loss for the longest? Biggest win most recently? All these factors had UF starting this season as #1, when everyone knew they obviously weren't that good. I'm not sure they deserve top 10 ranking even if they win this weekend and their bowl game. But by BA logic, they'd have been #1 until they lost their first game.

So tell me, BA, is that how you see it? I'm curious. It's obvious nobody can change your view, and I can respect that, but I would like to know how your logic applies to everything else.

Strongly agree with the highlighted and bolded areas This is just simple sense. Florida should have been #1 until their first loss. I probably answered the rest of your questions in my response to Hypnotik1's reply. :)

following your logic, BA, the NC doesn't determine who is the best football team, it only determines who has gone the longest without losing. If you "can't tell" who is going to beat you, and all things are equal, then there are no good and bad teams. Akron really IS as good as OSU, it just didnt go their way this year. Maybe next year they'll win the NC.

Doesn't this sounds retarded to you?

I'm not going to bash BA any further, but I will thank you for making me clearly see your logic and how it does apply universally in your view. By the same token, UF's basketball would be ranked #1 right now (hell, they just won back to back NCs), but they came into the season unranked at all...and only lately are cracking the top 25. It's not the same team, obviously, but at least they DO have a tournament that sorts it all out. BA's logic just screams for a playoff system, and that's something I'll buy him a beer and toast to anyday.

If OSU gets in the NT game because the b12 south somehow wins the big 12 and LSU loses the SECC game I'm seriously gonna hang myself.

I hate ND. I have always hated ND. Without bringing up issues my therapist says I need to accept and move past...I will point out that I was a big Duke fan this past weekend. The ONLY part about ND's contract with NBC that I find appealing is watching them lose again, and again, and again. C'mon, who puts two 1-9 teams against eachother on TV? Even the ND faithful were probably wishing it wasn't televised.

Nice satire by DJ Gallo of ESPN wherein he pretends "Patriots will have plenty of tips for Weis"

Anyone wanna make picks for this weekend?
Thursday
#11 USC at #6 Arizona State - I'll go ASU
Friday
#13 Texas at Texas A&M - TX
#19 Boise State at #15 Hawaii - HA
Saturday
#8 Virginia Tech at #16 Virginia - UVA
#18 Tennessee at Kentucky - KY (pretty please)
#20 Connecticut at #3 West Virginia - WVU
#7 Georgia at Georgia Tech - GT (yeah, I'm thinking bulldogs are scoreboardwatching TENN-KEN from 2 hrs earlier)
#9 Oregon at UCLA - UCLA
#22 Clemson at South Carolina - USC (I think they can do it)
#4 Missouri at #2 Kansas - Mizz (just 'cuz)

When is the Big10+1 going to extend their season 8) ?

Sweet! I'll bring the rope!

OSU is more deserving of the NC than WV, who lost to an UNRANKED USF team! And the team that OSU did lose to is hardly a pushover. Illinois is a great, top-20 team. They might even play in a new years day bowl...As for USF, which bowl are they going to again?

SO OSU fans here's what needs to happen:

WV loses either Conn or Pitt, and Oklahoma beats the winner of the KU/Mizzo game. Simple as that!

Woah, that's the nuttiest thing I've heard in awhile. USF got as high as #2 this season, how high has ILL been ranked? WVU lost on the road @ USF.....where did OSU lose their game? And wasn't ILL unranked at the time? Put the pipe down, you need some real air in those lungs for a bit. 8)

Still, that would make an interesting matchup too, put USF vs ILL? I think nearly everyone would lean to ILL at this point, but I'd still watch the game :)

good call.

WV lost on the road to a team that was the computer number 1 for a time (ahead of even Ohio State who was also undefeated LOL), nothing to be ashamed of here.

Ohio State couldn't get the job done at home because the Little 11 sucks ass against the spread.

Too bad the Rose Bowl only wants a Pac-10 team, I think watching Colt Brennan run up and down the field on OSU's defense would have been a fun matchup, even if OSU somehow gets in the NT game they will probably face WV, and we get to see White/Slaton put up about 50 on em.

I see both ILL and USF are 3rd in their respective conferences, and both conferences are considered fairly weak. Even more reason they ought to pair up.

I'd agree WVU would spread and shred OSU, but a lot would hinge on OSU's ability to control the clock. They'd have to keep the ball away from Colt Brennan in order to keep the game close if they somehow (only in our dreams) got matched up with HI - they'd lose a track meet :\ But it now brings another ugly matchup to mind - OSU is locked (barring a miracle) into the Rose Bowl, and you are right they'd want a PAC-10 champ in there for attendance...which gives us Oregon without a quarterback. Who in the hell is gonna wanna watch that? Ugh. The other bowls are open to pick whom they want, but the 'ol grandaddy wants PAC10 vs BIG10+1, so they are going to get an ugly matchup....yay :|

We're favored by 14, and while you and I won't miss a down, the rest of the nation (and thread participants) couldn't care less :\ I just hope T-bow keeps racking up the T-downs and raises that rush-pass record even higher for his Heisman stats :) And it's always good to beat FSU (about as good as ND losing another game).

SHouldn't u guys be talking about where teams are ranked NOW? As opposed to how good people THOUGHT they were when they played?

For heavens sakes, use some logic in your arguments!!!!

Okay, ILL is currently #17 and USF is #23 - and you're right that ILL is better for having won on the road at OSU while USF won at home against WVU....except you aren't arguing ILL vs USF, you were arguing OSU (currently #7) vs WVU (currently #3). Now, what was your point?

My point is this:

If two teams both have one loss, as WV and OSu do, than the factor that should determine who should be ranked higher is how good the team they lost to is. Illinois is a much better team than USF,there's really no arguing this, so that should make OSU ranked higher than WV.

Explain to me why WVU should be ranked ahead of OSU...I'm very curious.
