On the topic of walking ... what was with the Channel Nine commentator's giving Hayden stick today ... he is one of the fairest cricketers in the game ... his decision not to walk was a sensible one. You are out when the umpire raises his finger, why should Hayden walk if he is unsure if he is out? Sure it was clearly out on the replay .. but anyone who has hit a bump ball in real life would know that it's not always easy to tell what happened.

Dude. Are you guys fucking serious? An eight page thread dedicated to CRICKET?

I'm telling the rest of BL about this!

can anyone answer this one please???

Why was Andrew Symonds wearing zinc cream on his lips when playing @ Telstra Dome undercover!

**EDIT** I was having a gay flashback thinking of Phil

^^^You mean Andrew Symonds?
And the answer...because he is a Queenslander and therefore a bit slow and probably thought he was still up north in the sunshine not indoors in melbourne.

Aussies were going along beautifully with Gilly smashing em around and then after losing him and a few more quick wickets NZ were right back in it. Damn being in Melb so only get to see first session. Glad I got to see the catch that got Hayden out. What a blinder and a brilliant shot too. Its not exactly easy to just march down the pitch and play a pull shot in the fashion that Hayden does and then to get caught by such a brilliant catch you would be feeling very hard done by. That catch will go down in history as one of the best. I wouldn't rate it quite as good as the one McGrath took at full stretch in the outfield a while back but still a blinder, although he did take it in his left hand so thats gotta count for extra too.

Go Aussies

What's your point?

When i was in North America i was dragged along to a few baseball games and found them as boring as batshit....3 hours of play and only 3 runs scored?? Fuck that! In a cricket game you'll see a few hundred runs in that time and far more action that's for sure.

^^^I guess they kinda look similar and they both play cricket, spell their names a little different tho and well Phil was a left hand batsman and part time left arm pie chucker for the west indies.

compared to the 20-40 pages of shit about Baseball, which by the way holds a WORLD SERIES and only lets American teams play in it... (well, now ONE Canadian team) but it's still not the WORLD series....

so go back to playing rounders :D

Aah Phil Simmons...totally forgot about that dude. I remember him taking 4 wickets for 3 runs at the SCG off 10 overs once. I think it's still the record for most economical bowling spell in a one day game (from the full 10 overs).

hehe yeah its a disgrace that a bowler like him can get such figures. He is the west indies version of Chris Harris (NZ). Both useless but somehow effective. Guess its unorthadox gumbyesque guys like them that make the game great. At least Phil could bat, Harris cant really do anything yet still gets a game every now and then for NZ.

yup.. i remember that game vividly... i think it was in 1992 or 1993 though..

pffft .. Phil Simmons was an absolute gun all-rounder. next you'll be telling me that Carl Hooper is too old to make another comeback...

anyone remember when Steve Waugh bowled the last over in a one-dayer against Pakistan (10 years ago) .... they needed 5 to draw from the last ball and Steve bowled a full-toss that got hit for six. injured shoulder? yeah right ;)

^^^Hahahaha big Carl surely has another 2 comebacks in him. He isn't in a wheelchair yet and the way the Windies are going the great Sir Viv Richards could get a game still.
Simmons is West Indies best ever all rounder and Big Merv is Australias best ever all rounder........he is clearly the most round player to ever play for australia, closely followed by Boonie. Gotta love the fat blokes.

That game that Steve Waugh got hit for 6 off the last ball will always be remembered. I still remember it, I'm sure Steve has been trying to forget it forever. Hopefully Kaspa will be able to forget his over that pretty much handed the Kiwis the game the other day. 22 from one over is kind of heart breaking for any bowler. I'm guessing the full bowling arsenal will make an appearance in next game, be good to see how the Kiwis handle McGrath and Gillespie in the 1 day format. They may be able to poke around and not score against McGrath in a Test but they won't be able to afford to block out 10 McGrath overs in a 1 dayer.

I remember that game. it was in hobart and asif mujtaba hit him over mid-wicket....i think it was a tie?

I'm really looking forward to the next one-dayer... mostly because I will be there and will be doing my best to get raging drunk!! :)

Should be a much better game hopefully...

Holy fuck but how much of a choker was Kasper... seriously... fuck it... 22 runs off the over to basically hand the game to the kiwis...

But thats more than enough ranting for the time being ;)

CB :)

ha ha what a game! go the kiwis!!! We blitzed you arrogant fucks. You are still the best test team in the world but we are surely the best at ODI's. Cant wait till the next game, hopefully Cairns and Astle will let rip. Isn't Vettori playing well?! And why was Andrew Symonds wearing zinc on his lips whilst playing indoors?? Someone seems to have forgotten the 125* Harris scored against yis in the world cup...(beech)

^^^Umm I think it might be a bit early to be claiming you kiwis are the best One Day team in the world. You have won a series against England (no great shakes) and won one game against Australia. You need to string a few series together before you can claim the title of best team. I think if you have a look at the rankings you will find NZ to be about 6th-7th in the One Day Rankings and about the same in the Test rankings whist Australia sits atop both tables.
Take a look at the Aussie team you beat. No McGrath and no Gillespie and with Brett Lee in the team who has barely played any cricket lately. It was a pretty 2nd string side full of bog average all rounders.

I think we have already established that Andrew Symonds is a bit fucking slow since he is a queenslander and that kinda explains the zinc.

And yes Harris knocked up a century in the world cup but could you possibly remind me who won the world cup? it seems to have escaped my mind ;)

We have won 18 of our last 21 matches and a number of series on the trot. I think you'll find our rating is at least at 3rd or 4th. There really is such a difference between the one day and test teams and our test cause was not helped by poor selection, deflating our 'pace' attack with Cairns and Butler sorely missed. I think coach John Bracewell needs his head read for persisting with the inviting mediums of Mill's and Franklin, it was an embarrasment to get thrashed so. Warne outclassed... he was just magic, it's just as well he's not playing in the ODI's.:)

I too was quite suprised at NZ's low ranking but it seems now that NZ is acutally ranked 2nd in the ICC ODI rankings!!! I guess this is due to the series win against England but however they are still 16 points behind Australia and even with a series win against the Aussies would be unlikely to take the number 1 ranking. It is a bit sad that the Kiwis are ranked 7th in Test cricket ahead only of West Indies, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Rather sad I guess.

Regardless of the rankings to think that the Kiwis can claim to be best ODI team after having 1 win against an almost 2nd string Australian team is a bit rich. Remember Aus are the current World Cup holders and therefore world champions and have not lost a series in recent times.

Its pretty plain to see the Aussies are number 1 in both forms of the game and I think will be for a while as long as we don't go selecting 2nd string teams full of bog average all rounders (watson).

Looking forward to next game. I like watching Cairns play, he is pretty exciting and if he gets going with the bat he is great to watch. His bowling isn't exactly firey anymore, his best ability with the ball is to mix his pace up. His top speed now would be around 130km but he has a great slower ball and thats how he got wickets in the first match, by bowling a lot of variety.
