I too was quite suprised at NZ's low ranking but it seems now that NZ is acutally ranked 2nd in the ICC ODI rankings!!! I guess this is due to the series win against England but however they are still 16 points behind Australia and even with a series win against the Aussies would be unlikely to take the number 1 ranking. It is a bit sad that the Kiwis are ranked 7th in Test cricket ahead only of West Indies, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Rather sad I guess.
Regardless of the rankings to think that the Kiwis can claim to be best ODI team after having 1 win against an almost 2nd string Australian team is a bit rich. Remember Aus are the current World Cup holders and therefore world champions and have not lost a series in recent times.
Its pretty plain to see the Aussies are number 1 in both forms of the game and I think will be for a while as long as we don't go selecting 2nd string teams full of bog average all rounders (watson).
Looking forward to next game. I like watching Cairns play, he is pretty exciting and if he gets going with the bat he is great to watch. His bowling isn't exactly firey anymore, his best ability with the ball is to mix his pace up. His top speed now would be around 130km but he has a great slower ball and thats how he got wickets in the first match, by bowling a lot of variety.
Beech out
