the official 2008-09 NCAA football thread!

this just in: Michigan has had to forfeit their game against the Ohio State University Saturday because they could not get past the town of Toledo.

if it weren't for girls like this it would cut the times I ever got laid in half:

Damn, Miami, you're lettin' me down (need the teams we beat to have better records :\ ).

Looking to this weekend:

Michigan at No. 10 Ohio State (-21, over under 45)
.... I'll guess MI 10 - OSU 38
Tressel won't try to run up the score, but you can't stop the 2nd and 3rd stringers from giving their best and abusing MI

Tennessee at Vanderbilt (-3, 37)
...TN 3 - VAN 24
I really wanted to guess that TN gets shut out, but I just can't do it. And while I'm watching them implode, I still see their defense having enough pride to hold Vandy to 24

No. 15 Michigan State at No. 8 Penn State (-15, 48)
MSU 17 - PSU 21
I'm really tempted to call the upset, but I have a feeling both teams will end up in the 17-24 pts range, just depends who is on top of this one.

No. 14 Brigham Young at No. 7 Utah (-7, 54)
I'll go with ... damn, tough call. Um, let's say BYU 38 - UT 42
Yeah...I'll go with that. Not sure if I want to watch it though. OH, WAIT....it's only being broadcast on the MTN channel :|

No. 20 Pittsburgh at No. 19 Cincinnati (-6, 49)
Eh...2 ranked teams, but they are in the BigEasy...I don't even wanna guess. I just don't care.

No. 21 Oregon State at Arizona (-2.5, 56)
...OSU 28 - AZ 13
Wtf are they doing to me, predicting AZ to win over OSU? Huh? I mean, those beavers have GOT to go to the BCS ahead of USC...they have to!!

No. 2 Texas Tech at No. 5 Oklahoma (-6.5, 75)
TT 28 - OU 42
As much as I want TT to remain the darling, and I can appreciate the BCS turmoil it would cause...the real reason I see it this way is OU is motivated, positioned, and ready. TT has been awesome and fun...but I think they'll run out of luck and gas this week. Part of me hopes not, part of me expects it, but all of me is looking forward to watching the game.

What in God's name happened to Illinois? First losing to Western freaking Michigan, now losing to Northwestern?!? Damn, damn, damn.

I got to say ROLL TIDE again!

I am honestly amazed that we still haven't lost a game. Our special teams has saved our ass on multiple occasions.
The Gators will be tough. I am nervous about that one.

i'm not sure if it was you that posted before the upgrading of the site (and the post has since been lost), but perhaps you oughtta be nervous about my AUBURN TIGERS playing the most important game of their season next weekend! =D i would, that's huge incentive.

the SEC game will be a good game regardless, but i don't have the slightest interest in either team. :p

What in God's name happened to Illinois? First losing to Western freaking Michigan, now losing to Northwestern?!? Damn, damn, damn.

Northwestern is pretty good this year, at the very least they hover around average. there is no excuse to lose to WMU, though. specially when you have someone as talented as Juice Williams calling the plays.

Florida kicks Bama's ass. I think FU is just too fast for Alabama. I would like to see the Tide win, but I just don't think they match up well with the Turds. Bama runs a pro-style offense and FU has so many weapons in their unconventional O. Harvin, Murphy, Demps, Moody. Tebow. Personally, I think they should be #1 in the land right now. It's the sad, God-awful truth.
Go DAWGS!!!
To Hell with Georgia Tech!!!

I see UF squeeking out a win in the SEC Champ game, and winning by 10 or more to become National Champs. The Big 12 team won't be able to beat a great defense. Florida fans, you better thank Ole Miss. That's right, thank them. Since that game, UF has switched things up and played lights out football. As a fan of another SEC school, I hope that Urban Meyer goes to Notre Dame and Tim Tebow goes pro, but that ain't gonna happen anytime too soon.

Last year, Clemson knocked South Carolina out of the bowl picture with a last second field goal. Our defense had gotten pounded the last five games, and two key players went out on that last drive (with many players already out). Clemson lined up with 4 WRs and took advantage of the injuries on their last drive to set up the FG.

This year, that shit ain't gonna happen. It is SC that will hand Clemson its sixth loss of the year and knock THEM out of a bowl game. Clemson is weak. They've played weak opponents all year minus Bama. They cannot handle a defense that will play them strong the whole game. I expect QB Chris Smelley to play most of the game, as he knows the offense in and out. QB Stephen Garcia should get the chance to bust a few heads. I'll bet that he runs a tough one into the endzone and walks away with six.

This is it, this is the one game we have to win even if we lost every other game. We should be looking at an Outback bowl bid this year.

so it looks like the whole wide world of BL sports and gaming are counting out the Alabama Crimson Tide? I am going to go against the grain and pick them. the Gators' chances rely on the feet and arm of Tim Tebow - how well of a game is the BAMA defense going to let him play?

I am watching the LSU VS Arkansas game. two teams that aren't having the best year, most likely because of the pathetic excuse they both claim as "defense." I see a lot of points being scored, which is well and good, because when I don't have much affiliation or cares for either team I just like to see lots of points scored.

what happened to the once vainglorious SEC defenses? they seem very very porous this year, and that is being nice.

I'm not counting out Bama. I am truly just going off our past of which we screw up eventually.
It could be that I am just not use to having a winning team. Or lucky team. However you want to look at it.
I will certainly be watching attentively.

FIRST, UF has to face FSU....let's not just skip that 'rivalry game' :\ And the best thing FSU has going for them is a mediocre defense....so perhaps it will help us toughen up the play calling and execution a bit, one can hope.

Then, when we face 'Bama, I will send a beer bottle thru my expensive television if we try any runs up the middle against Cody....and if we try it with Tebow I will .... well, I don't want to be arrested, but it wouldn't be worth the trip home for our OC, and even Urban will have to answer to me on that. However, with some of the blowouts we've had recently, we're throwing Harvin in the shotgun and letting him run? Might work....might, so long as we stay away from their big uglies and speed around the edges...and I do think we're trying to set teams up for a Harvin pass to someone, or maybe I'm just optimistic our coaches aren't as predictable as they've proven to be all f'n season 8(

Gah....let me get past UF-FSU, then I'll rant some more about the SECCG.

==================================

OSU vs OU (Big 12) - I really hope OSU pulls the upset, and I don't think we'd see the kind of beat down ass kicking TX gave TT...but ultimately I see this one going down OSU 24 - OU 35 :\

AU vs ALA (Iron Bowl) - Um, even for a rivalry game, I'm going to go with 'Bama. I think they are overhyped but AU is just so suck ass they can't pull the upset even if the lock ALA in the lockerroom and don't let them on the field. AU 3 - ALA 31.

OSU - OU (Pac10) - I'm still giggly about the Beavers going to the rose bowl. One of the back stories that I also enjoy about it is a rematch between OSU and PSU in that rose bowl, after PSU hammered them earlier. PSU wins, feehhhhhhh it's expected. They lose? Hahahahahaahahahahaaaaaaaaa. It's a lose-lose for PSU to see them in the rose bowl, and yeah, USC would make a more interesting matchup, but c'mon....who else is tired of them riding their own hype to the BCS games? But I get ahead of myself - first, the civil war. As much as I still pine for the Quack Attack....I'm calling OSU 28 - OU 10.

GT - UGA - Um.....yeah, I'm not sure what UGA team is going to show up, but I'll put my faith in my SEC brethren against an ACC team. I'll go GT 14 - UGA 24 (and I'll mark Knowshon for 100 yds, Stafford for an INT).

ND - USC - I will give respect for USC, but you can't make me like them. That said, I don't think I'll ever stop disliking ND. Go Trojans...kill 'em, kill 'em dead. ND 0 - USC 63

you have to be the ONLY college football fan hoping for a PSU/Oregon State U Rose Bowl rematch....

ND 0 USC 70

would be entertaining.

bad day for the SEC so far. first UGA gets shocked by GT and then South Carolina gets spanked by Clemson. those two teams are a part of an obviously inferior conference... or so we thought?

the kicker would be Florida State winning, but I can't really see that happening.

I watched perhaps the best game all year in Kansas VS Missouri. it was non-stop action, and I really like Todd Reesing. save for one of his receivers he really has NO supporting cast - yet the team wins most of their games.

fuckin Auburn... can't even get a measley FG on the board and get shut out?? i mean, i honestly expected a better game just because of the rivalry, but i gotta agree with TLB.... auburn is/was too suck ass to pull off any kind of upset. tough year to watch... :X

I'm glad to see Fulmer leave Tennessee with a win. While I wanted a coaching change, it's still going to be weird not seeing him on the sideline next season.

F'n UGA....
F'n Vandy....
F'n South Carolina...

All this bashing I heap onto the ACC and 3 of our 'decent' teams lose to ACC chumps. Okay, GT wasn't a chump, but it was @UGA :\ WF is a chump in my mind - had a good year last year or whatever, but not much this year (didn't they beat Miss or MissSt earlier in this year, as well)? And Clemson? Yeah, rivalry...but CLEMSON???? Gah.

I, for one, would have been perfectly fine with KY (and Vandy) sending UT out with more losses....but I won't get too upset about how the season ended for Fulmer. Heh, maybe he can get a job in the state of Washington?

UF blasted FSU as I'd have hoped (though, I was hoping for 52 :\ Now to start contemplating next week's SECCG.

Oi, and OU-OSU (Big12) wasn't disappointing :) OSU-OU (Pac10) was, but I didn't realize Jacquizzi was out with a shoulder injury :\ Wotoboot Baylor@TT? That was almost a cool upset :o KU beating MIZZ, now that was cool....I agree with the talking heads, the Big12 championship ought to void Mizzou's ticket and let TX play OU to decide it all.

Anyone notice, or care, that the Big10 is all done and aren't being seen on TV this week or next? Yeah, me neither ;) ND ought to be a Big10 team, but between ND and MICH there have been a helluva lot of BAD records set. I love it =D

I would rather have my conference not play then get spanked by the ACC. just saying :)
and here I was starting to want to play UGA in a bowl game (against Ohio State). I surely don't want to play them if they can't beat Georgia Tech. I wonder who will play the Buckeyes?

I have been talking a lot about an extra Big 10 team. while ND is the most obvious choice, I doubt they will take it, as they seem to love not having any conference affiliation.

best case scenario: the Big 10 takes Missouri. they are close enough and it would prove for some exciting match-ups (the game early on in the season where they barely beat Illinois was a good precursor).

Georgia v Ohio State would be a great game. What are you talking about? Who the hell wants to play Mich. St.? This bites. Not that the whole world revolves around tOSU. Just the media's world!

I would have loved to play Georgia. Ohio State really needs to get their team morale up in this year's bowl after getting blown out the last couple BCS trips.

looks like OSU will play OU or Texas while UGA gets to feast on Michigan State. the only highlight of a Michigan St/UGA game is if you like teams that can only run the ball.
