the official 2008-09 NCAA football thread!

tuberville is sure to be fired after auburn's loss to ole miss. it's hard to keep on supporting the team but i'll motor on through it.

UGA....um, ouch? i pull for them over florida every single year, but man what wasted efforts today.

good lord. Hats off to the gators for a very sound whoopin'. We were clearly fucked with by the officials on some key plays in the first quarter, but a championship team doesn't let that stop them. I hope you guys roll right over the crimson tide in Atlanta. <3

Three highlights from yesterday's action:

1. The opened mouth golden shower Florida gave Georgia.
2. The awesome 2nd half of the Texas vs. Texas Tech game.
3. Michigan's efforts to be the shittiest Big10 school by losing to a 2-6 Purdue team.

As an Alabama girl, I have to come by and say ROLL TIDE :)

Can't wait for the games coming up...Alabama vs LSU

and of course the biggest game to Alabama: Alabama vs. Auburn (even though Auburn sucks this year)!

I did notice a couple shit calls too! But wow, I did not see that coming. You are gracious though my friend. i hope you had a good time in JAX, I stayed in Pensacola and watched it with my fiance.

:\

Don't ever clear your bench for a celebration penalty, it will not be forgotten by the officiating crew. I'll be a little less gracious in this post, and say that we might have even been ahead of florida at the half were it not for the bad calls.

Stafford sure has an arm. He's already throwing for an NFL style offense, 3+ INTs a game, and all. Florida and their new set of weapons (when compared to the tebow show last year) is the real deal. I hope Urban is studying up on Sabin's blitz packages.

On the plus side, we're still in the running for an excellent bowl game, against a more interesting opponent than Hawaii. And our conference still looks ballanced and heads and shoulders above the rest.

As for the sad news in the conference-- fullmer agreed to be bought out today for 6 million dollars. The behavior of the vols fans I know has been disgusting these past few weeks. The man deserves better, even if it is time for him to move onwards. Tenn is fooling themselves if they think theyre going to pull Leach from TTU, and Cutcliffe isn't going to shit out a NC win with crompton at the helm.

thoughts?

We were so impressed with him staying in that game, obviously hurting very badly. For such a little guy, he is very good. I also think that Morano let you guys down a little, he did not seem to be in the game.

Fulmer deserves SO much more than what the Vols fans give him. That man is a great coach. My dad and I thought that he would be like Paterno or Bowdin, he could stay as long as he wanted. We have always had a healthy respect for him. Payton Manning never beat the Gators though!

Did you know Phil Fulmer wanted Payton Manning to be his Paul Bearer?

He wanted him to let him down just one more time!!

I'll post more when work slows down....like December :\

Florida is the best team in the nation.

Its not that I've stopped watching lots of football, I just can't find the will within me to get pumped about talking about it... I feel like the Dawgs defense.

I like Texas Tech or BAMA as the best. it could be Oklahoma or Florida. we will see I suppose.

does anybody care about the Ohio State VS Michigan game this year? I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled the day before so I am not going to be able to party like it's 1999 here in Columbus. Michigan is a travesty of a football program - and all I want to see is OSU drop the most points they have ever dropped on them in this rivalry's history. probably not going to happen, as Jim Tressel's style is so antiquated and conservative that he will probably let them score a couple points at the end - only so they can feel good about themselves.

Yeah, that's not Tressel's style, to run up scores - the fact that it is a rivalry may increase his desire not to leave a permanent mark like that, since such things come back to haunt you when you see the same team for years on end, and if RRod can get that offense in place, Tressel hasn't shown his coaches know how to cope. Aside from that, I'm minorly interested, but primarily as I don't like either team for obvious reasons (MICH beat us soundly, and I suffered living in OH for too damn long with obnoxious fans). If I were to envision the best possible scenario in my imagination, I'd say OSU 10 - MICH 13, since even the win wouldn't do anything for MICH but give them a warm fuzzy whilst relegating OSU to a lesser bowl (hopefully against an SEC team that can compete with them....and lately it doesn't feel like there are that many 'top' SEC teams, IMO).

I'd love to see UGA and OSU in a bowl game, honestly.

Wanted to revive this link, lost in the rewind.

All your NCAA football stats :)

So, anyone else worried or excited like me about the Citadel vs UF game? :D Yeah, me neither. Lots of fans are looking ahead, to FSU and to ALA, so while this isn't Appy State, and even if we fall flat on our face I don't see how we could lose....the point is our focus isn't where it ought to be. Well, the fan focus isn't. The players? We'll have to see how well Urb's been handling them.

again, I think BAMA is the most physical team in the country. far more physical than Florida. however, with Tim Tebow the Gators can truly beat anybody. will be a great game to watch.

UGA VS OSU would be a great game, I would love to see what Terrelle Pryor could do against that soft UGA defense. UGA's defense looked as bad as OSU's at the start of the season, however, thankfully OSU has picked up the slack and has started pressuring the QBs and initiating new blitz platforms.

I wouldn't mind taking a year break from the SEC, though. would be nice to play a cupcake Big East winner ;)

I'm nervous that we face Citadel, FSU, then ALA back-to-back-to-back. Too many chances for injuries, showing your plays, stupid idjits getting suspended, etc. Whereas ALA gets a week's rest (and hiding) then has to show up enough to push AUB around, then go back into hiding, resting, watching tape of UF for another week before facing us. All the while getting fed the hype that UF is better (that 'disrespect' factor is a great motivator I know Saban will use). Part of me thinks ALA might be over rated at #1, sitting there by default of not losing (but not facing as tough of competition as most would think), but I can't get past the fact that they.are.there, something that can't just be dismissed. And that UF lost a game, that can't just be ignored either - we can, and have been, stupid at times (just not since then :D ).

=====================

#2 of the Big10+1 would most likely be OSU (after they beat MichSt), which automatically defaults to the Crapital One Bowl against the SEC#2 team. But fully expecting UF and ALA (regardless of winner) to both go into the BCS bowls (NC + Sugar), that leaves Orlando open to pick whomever they want to match up against the Buckeyes. It won't be a conference champion, obviously (unless they can pull the an undefeated BCS buster in), and they aren't obligated to stick with an SEC team either (though they may, for selling tickets)....speaking of tickets, I wonder how gung-ho the OSU fans will be for another bowl game after getting their asses kicked by the SEC the past 2 yrs :\ I know their fans are die hard (and would love to travel to FL for the winter for a bit), but they've got to be hoping like Axl that they don't see another SEC team on the slate. If they don't go SEC, and I don't expect them to grab a Big12 team (but ya never know) then I'd say chances are high that OSU will face an inferior opponent (ACC or BigEasy runner up? Anyone else?). Then the Buckeye fans can come down en masse and build their confidence back up with another non-SEC bowl win ;)

====================

Gawd, I'm still dizzy everytime I look at OU-TX-TT, and am nervous for whomever faces them in the NC+Fiesta+Cotton Bowls :\ TT is rated highest, and I still can't get my imagination around how they'd fare against a solid defensive team. Eat them alive with the passing game, or get sacked back to a dismal showing? I'd say they can do very fast pitch and catch, and would have the upperhand on nearly anyone. I suppose the difference then is if the opposing team (whomever it is) can run, and own the clock and the possessions :\ Do I think TT is going to the NC? Part of me is rooting for that perennial dark horse, but part of me doesn't think they can pull off one more big one when they play OU. I suppose we'll find out this Saturday :).

====================

Speaking of darkhorses pulling it off, I can't express how happy and giddy I am to be pulling for Oregon State in the PAC10. I'm tired of USC stubbing their toe and remaining the darling. I will be so happy if this time, it actually effected them and someone else got to go to the big bowl. Besides, who's not loving Jacquizzi? Go Beavers (though I've always been a fan of the Quack Attack...simply for the mascot).

OSU already beat Michigan State, they face Michigan this week while PSU plays Michigan State. PSU can most definitely lose to Michigan State. MSU is scary this year, granted, all they do is run the ball but when you have Central Ohio standout running back J. Ringer (who I played against in high school) you can get away with running the ball a lot. I'm sure that's what you meant. ever since PSU played OSU, they seem to have lost a lot of momentum - they seemed to have peaked at precisely the wrong part of the season. where Florida is peaking at the absolute right part of the season.

I am not that intimidated by the SEC this year, because face it, they are not as good as they have been the last two years. everybody can play defense, granted, except when they seem to play Florida. however, playing Oregon State in the Rose Bowl (long shot, but if PSU loses we go) or playing a far inferior Big Easy or ACC champ in the Capital One bowl would be clutch. right now we just need a bowl win, because OSU is obviously going to be a team to take seriously with Terrelle Pryor under center.

as a fan of the game of college football, I am rooting for Texas Tech and their gimmick offense. they are just too much fun to watch.
