the official 2008-09 NCAA football thread!

(directed at Axl lol.)
^ I disagree, college football isn't in decline, OSU is in decline. Earlier in the year you and every other OSU fan was giving me shit for wearing "SEC tinted glasses". So I remained quiet, I figured, damn they must know something I don't. Now I'm going to put back on my SEC tinted glasses, and look at the top 5. Barring ANYTHING EXTRAORDINARY happening 3 SEC teams will remain in the top 5 Georgia/Alabama, LSU, and Florida. And Auburn, might creep back into the top 10. And Alabama has surprised me, I figured their game against Clemson was more of a hyped up fluke... Georgia had better come and play like they have been hyped to play. I feel bad for my Wildcats, they have a helluva defense... But with no offense to speak of they'll probably end up 8-5 AGAIN, and end up in the Music City bowl... AGAIN.

And as far as Beanie Wells being the OBVIOUS Heisman choice... He hasn't even finished a game this season. And the only game he did play in was against a no name youngstown. And while he did produce nice numbers there and looking at his past productions he should have another solid year once he returns... that doesn't make him the obvious Heisman choice. I also want to point out that you can't be a Heisman winner if you don't bring your A-game which apparently according to you Beanie didn't bring.

Besides Chase Daniel is a beast, and when you search for top heisman choices, Beanie doesn't even register on the radar.

Maybe you should take off those OSU tinted glasses, and look around. It wasn't just the Oregon St. running back that won that game. It was their defense, they kept USC from producing (Except in the final drive of theirs, that was explodingly fast).

/OSU isn't nearly as good as their fans wish they were with/without Wells rant.
/SEC whoops everyones ass rant (with the exception of the big12 they look good).

*puts back on SEC tinted glasses*

:P

I don't think that the Big 12 looks that good.

and I meant Tebow and Wells being the obvious Heisman choices, preseason. I didn't clarify because I suppose that I thought you all were far more intelligent than that. Beanie will not win the Heisman, sadly enough for him.

if you look at most of my posts in this forum I have said time and time again that Chase Daniels looks like the lock so far. again, I thought you all would have remembered.

^ Man I forget half the stuff I say and do in 30 minutes. And it didn't seem like you were talking anything about pre-season though. (By the way I hope you don't get too offended or anything it's all in good fun... This is one of my favorite times of the year...)

Oh Shit, UPSET UPSET!!

its only a point in a conference game <----this much-----> is a bit of an overstatement, IMO. The Auburn Tennessee game is on now, and I'm hating it for Fulmer. Crompton just can't get anything going.

UF....I basically wanted to puke. Such a weird game, though - the way one team dominates a quarter, then the other team....I will agree with the talking heads also, that (for the season) we (UF) still aren't having any sense of a running game or any rhythm. The 2 drives at the end of the game are what we're supposed to be doing ALL the time...march it down quick. Instead, I wanna kick our freaking OC in the head for continuously calling runs up the middle. That isn't even working for us against shitty teams :! We were lucky to bring it to a close game, but didn't deserve the win. What it tells me, is what everyone knew but not everyone was saying....the reason so many highly ranked teams are falling in the last year and this one is that they are over-ranked, and I say that not as a bitter person thinking the team ahead of mine is over ranked and making that generalized statement. I think their over ranked because we really don't know shit about these teams. Makes me lean to the 'no rankings until 4-5 weeks in', though I know we all need something to point at and talk about. One last point on this game - SEC is defense? Okay, then how are crappy offenses scoring 30+ in the game? Fucking retarded...the whole damn weekend is re-TARD-ed.

USC got flat outplayed by OSU. UF got outplayed by MSU.

But wtf was up with WISC and MICH? Heh, the only part I like is that the highest ranked Big11 team just lost...but tbh, I'm still bitter over last year's bowl game so I can't really enjoy any MICH wins :\

AUG-TENN? Closer than I expected. But I do enjoy another Fulmer loss.

UGA-ALA? 17-0 early in the 2nd quarter? Again, rankings are shit, we don't know these teams yet.

ND-PURD? Fuggetaboutit. I hate ND too much to discuss.

gah...I'm gonna go watch some OU-TCU for a bit, and flip back the other prime time games. I'll check back later....I think my stomach is almost settled from our loss today (and props to PB on the pic....trite, but correct).

Not that the rest of you care too much, but at least for the first time this season UK is actually MOVING the chains, and moving them well. Sure it's against Western Ky. But this is what we need before we take on alabama at alabama. Ick... They're looking better and better and better, and I am not interested in watching UK get blown out.

I think Alabama is making a case for one of the top two positions this week. Georgia will probably drop out of the top 10, I mean they're losing by double digits... OUCH (although I'll give UGA this they aren't giving up a lost cause). LSU should slide up a couple of spots, and I expect Auburn to creep back into the top ten. Florida will probably drop down to the 9th spot, 1 point isn't a LARGE loss, but it was to ole miss (who's not looking to strong) at home. They might even drop further than that, but since they're Florida I expect them to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Wisconsins loss to Michigan also took me by surprise, I fully expected them to easily earn a W here. Other than that things are falling as they would be expected.

Rusty Cage, I feel the same about my team (USC Gamecocks). It might've been against UAB, but we actually moved the chains and won 26-13, with 7 of those 13 points being in the last seconds of the game, with our second and third team defense guys in for playing time.

I'm real excited about Stephen Garcia. This QB was a beast in highschool, then came to Columbia and got arrested a billion times, missing a lot of practice and the first four games. For his first game, he went 13/20 with 1 TD, 131 yards, one INT that was like a punt, and 88 rushing yards and a rushing TD. This was without our #1 RB (out for one game for missing classes) and our star WR McKinley (hamstring). Garcia also didn't start the game, and the two other QBs got playing time and screwed up for us. Our defense played well as usual, and I'm feeling pretty good about the Gamecocks for the first time since the season opener.

If Garcia didn't fuck up off the field during the preseason, we could easily be 5-0 or 4-1 instead of 3-2.

As for the Florida game, I hear that UF were having horrible practices all week. True or not, the Cocks have got to bring it next week in Oxford. Maybe some fans will actually show up at their (Ole Miss) stadium now.
