The most disturbing film you have seen?

We Need to Talk About Kevin was disturbing, to me at least. There were a lot of moments that made my stomach turn and physically cringe.

^I am really looking forward to seeing this film, not because it is disturbing but because it's meant to hit at alot of truths; maybe unconscious for many. To be honest some of the most disturbing movies, for me, are those seemingly 'normal' ones that hold back on too much of human reality- actually find that kind of repression depressingly dark.

Heres a little interview with Lynne Ramsey and Tilda Swinton. Looking at various clips of her talking about the film, Ramsey appears so genuinely, passionate, thoughtful and heartfelt about the essence of the film.

Lol, I thought the Wizard of Oz was more disturbing than Megan is Missing.

Agreed, although I havn't seen it(and have no intention of either) it just looks silly and immature.

Possible spoilers:

I find head game/psychological stuff way more disturbing than anything. But then I tend to avoid really gross, gratuitous movies.

Funny Games was such a cringe making, sit on the edge of your seat, feeling horrible for watching, knowing it was going to end badly movie. I actually only saw the US version (I normally hate remakes but this was very well done) which was directed I think, by the original German director. I couldn't bring myself to see the original. Those two men were the worst, most vile sociopaths I've ever seen in a movie.

Paranormal Activity. Sitting there tense for an hour and 3/4 then ... no thank you. Never again.

In saying that, I still want to see We Need to Talk about Kevin. I know I will hate it but at the same time admire the skill in making it, just like Funny Games. I know I'll be horribly disturbed by it but am still going to see it.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for punishment I guess!

I just finished watching Kill List, that's definitely quite creepy & unnerving.

I would suggest not looking it up at all though. Just watch it.

For some reason I had been hearing a lot about Event Horizon as a good psychological horror movie...

It most certainly is not. My first clue should have been that it was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson of the Resident Evil franchise. I kept waiting for it to get good but nothing ever happened.

Completely agree.

A Serbian Film is the most disturbing film i've seen so far. Psychological horrors don't really disturb me, I need visual grossness and shock to really fuck with me.

Yeah the trailer looked boring as hell.

A friend recently told me about Martyrs so I'm checking that one out later.

Rec was really good, not so much disturbing but scared the shit out of me. Recommended.

I haven't seen Cannibal Holocaust yet but it looks super messed up judging by stills I've seen. Didn't the director get arrested before the authorities finally realised the scenes of people dying weren't actually real?

Yep, for various reasons. I believe there was a clause in the actors contracts for them to lay low after the release of the film to make it seem real. And the scene with the girl impaled was the one which had to be proved to be fake. They had to recreate it to prove she didnt really have a wooden pole stuck through her vertically.

Hardcore man. Might give it a go some time.

Watched Martyrs and it's pretty fucking gross. Didn't really enjoy it to be honest.

A Snake of June

...When I was about 14 I found a DVD of the film in my brother's dark-Japanese cinema collection and just had to give it a go. Don't think I've been quite the same person since. Looking back, it was a fucking masterpiece.

Flowers of flesh and blood series was okay, not really that disturbing though.

There was one movie in the series I saw on Youtube that was actually pretty cool. I think it was called "Mermaid" or something like that. It wasn't as overtly violent or gory as some of the other films in the series, but the gore it did have had a strange Rorschach-like quality. Like you couldn't quite tell what each scene was supposed to be, it was just a strange collage of glinting, pulsating body fluids and flesh. I wouldn't say I "enjoyed" it, but it did have a strange sort of macabre beauty about it.

Also, was that pic you posted from FoFaB? Those Japanese really have the market cornered on shockingly-realistic gore.

Yeah, the one with the weird samurai guy. Back in the day they had the advantage of the films being on VHS. Also I find the Mermaid in the sewer is so beautiful.

Dark, very dark films. Will leave an impresion.

First off, Martyrs...

This one repaced Rosemarys Baby as my all time favorite horror film. Beautifully Dark!
This is real horror, and there's a sense that the evil portrayed here actually exist that makes it all the more so, as well as a sense that the torture portrayed so realisticly here might "turn-on" some viewers...causes a very creepy feeling as well. But there is also a powerfull invocation of compassion and empathy for the victim that makes this film heartbreaking, for non pychopathic viewers, such as myself, and hopefully you. It's very rare for a film to be both horrifing and sad, this is about the only one I can think of.

The compassionate quality creeping into the "feeders" mannerisms as the "victim" moves into transfiguration is a skillfull, subtle touch.

Next Noriko's Dinner Table

This one is a much more serious prequel to the cult hit "Suicide Club". It is one of the most direct looks at the sort of stuff I've been told I should just ignore...modern day taboo, "cat got your tongue?" grown-up-childhood type stuff.

"It will Break your Heart"

Martyrs was TWISTED! it's that obscure French-Horror film, right? one of the most gruesome, but enjoyable movies, that I've ever seen

Yes indeed it was.

I thought the film was ending when the "swat team" showed up, and then, that second even more disturbing half of the film when our girl begins her process of transfiguration. My God!

Things like this should not be!
