The Engagement/Wedding/Honeymoon thread

how about a mcwedding! :D

^ Yes it does. :)

This is a really terrible photo. The stone dates back in his family to before the Holocaust.

My wedding band will be fitted around the engagement ring -- white gold and no gaps (against Jewish law).

That's lovely! My engagement ring was my husband's grandmothers, dating back to about 1930 or so, i absolutely love it, it's very art deco, very me. <3

I took some photos (not the best, but didn't want to wash the photo with flash) to show you the two rings together.

Engagement and wedding ring together:

L2R - I LOVE that! It looks SO much like both of you if that makes sense. So pretty.

Your rings are STUNNING Sam. I really love that look. So vintage in the best way possible. Classic and unique at the same time. :)

I love yours, amor! i kind of wish i'd gone for a setting like that now i've seen it but thems the breaks.

We're down to 8 weeks and one day, eek! Still need to get our rings, decide on flowers (they're not really that important to me but i do get what everyone says about it being good for your nervousnessfor you to have something to hold), plan the timing of the day, make the final decisions about the venue setup and i need to buy my necklace (from swarovski):

I'll be wearing my mother's and my grandmother's pearls wrapped around my wrist as a bracelet, and no earrings (my hair's down so why bother).

Oh writing that made me wonder - did you guys do the old/new/borrowed/blue thing?

Jo, I wore my mothers/grandmothers ring - the one on my right hand - blue stone, which was the old/borrowed/blue part and my shawl was something new. Well, that's how I worked it out on the day. I didn't set out with those traditions in mind, but wearing the ring for me, was lovely, as I can imagine you wearing your grandmother's and mum's pearls will be <3

Pearls around the waist sounds beautiful. I'll be wearing the pearls my mother gave me when I was 18 around my neck. :)

I probably won't do any of the old/new/borrowed/blue things. I'm traditional but not into that kinda thing.

I can't do a pic of my engagement ring as it is somewhere on the ground in San Francisco after my subsequent partner and I pitched both his and mine. My subsequent partner and I are not in a relationship anymore. He got me a beautiful 2 karat Swiss Blue topaz set in white gold with a couple little diamonds on my 28th birthday. I asked him whether he should take it back after our relationship ended. He said it was a birthday present. I take him at his word. <3 I still love him and he knows that.

My first "commitment" ring is a half carat tanzanite set in white and yellow gold. That one is what I need to photograph, as it is the most valuable according to my insurance company. I'm on it!

I wear both at times as fashion rings, and I reminisce. I look forward to a day when I will get married. I will wear a red dress like PI's (girl, I love red dresses!) and I've got to be in a wedding later this year (ever the bridesmaid, not yet the bride).

I look forward to the day I will get married. I know that my father will be walking me down the stairs at City Hall, that it will be small and drama-free. My gay bestie will have to compete with my roommate for attendant of honor; they can work that out themselves (that one ought to be interesting) and my cousins will be my other attendants.

Amy, I really, really love your dress. You will be a beautiful bride. <3

I've had strong premonitions recently (while I've had a fever) about whom my husband will be. I am too career-oriented to realistically think about with whom I would be most compatible. I am a hopeless romantic at the same time. WTF?

Mariposa the Bachleorette. With love. <3

P.S. - I hope he rides into my backyard with a unicorn. <3

We are having a small ceremony on a tiny beach. Aside from gowns and tuxes, it will be very laid back with some irish touches. Trying to put together a very informal reception but money is tight. So excited. <3

Here's one photo from my best friend's wedding on Saturday:

It was down in Kiama, for anyone who knows where that is :)

^that is awesome!

how many of you officially changed your last to something new (your husband's or a hyphenated name or whatnot)?

i kept my maiden name. i like the cultural significance of my last name and did not want to lose it when i got married. altho i have no problems being introduced by my husband's last and i don't correct people.
