☛ Official ☚ The Big & Dandy Storage Thread

Amber 2-3 dram vials seem to be the standard, and quite efficient/reliable. Freezer for tryptamines regardless of length of time of storage, for PEAs, doesn't matter as much. If i were planning on holding onto them for multiple years, i'd probably stick them in the freezer as well, though i'd imagine 2c-x at room temperature will be perfectly active long after we're all dead.

Hope that helps.

are you guys putting desiccant packs in your vials/bags with the actual chemical material so they are touching physically?

I think that way it would be most effective but then I see the problem of having to scrape off the desiccant package from material that gets stuck to it.

can you have too many desiccant packs in one container? as in, if I put all my vials in a jar and fill most of the jar with desiccant packs is this efficient?

Does anyone put those 1-2 Dram amber vials directly in the freezer with no desiccant or outer container? Just take out of freezer, wait 30-60min to adjust to RT, grab dose, twist top back on and pop it back in the freezer as is?

been wondering these things, and couldn't find answers within the rest of the pages...

bump for answers plz

I got the idea of putting rice in the containers, would it be smart to put one grain of rice in the vial with the powdered material?

Those are exactly the same questions i've been wondering too man. Can anyone shed some more light on those specific questions? or be more specific about how you are taking the proper measures for storing and eliminating/minimizing degradation

Are there any good european companies selling amber vials (1-8 ml) and oxygen absorbers? I've been trying to find one so that I could save some money on the shipping.
Or if not european then an american company that ships to europe is OK aswell. I don't really trust the ebay sellers and would rather buy quality vials that I can trust are airtight.

I have until now stored my tryptamines in multiple ziplock bags in the freezer. I have now ordered glass vials since they should keep air and moisture away more effectively.

However, there seems to be conflicting information about the ideal temperature. Should I store them in the freezer or rather the fridge? I'm planning on storing them for up til 2 years. I'm mainly intending to store 4-HO-DPT, 4-AcO-DMT and 4-HO-MET but I also have 5-MeO-DMT and 5-MeO-AMT.

I'm also interested in knowing about methoxetamine storage, since I have a lot of it and I'm not planning to buy more anytime soon. Would ziplock bags in a cool, dark room be enough?

I'm most worried about my tryptamines though.

If it's colder, water that is able to enter through cracks can be more vicious, it condenses and freezes and that adds up over time. If you have ever seen a freezer that had a leak to the outside: they fill up with ice in no time. Unless you have major holes in your baggies that won't happen but still, having real airtight containers is essential to storage.
I personally don't think I have ever dared putting a single ziplock baggie in the freezer, at the very least it has been baggie in baggie, including dessicant in the space between them, and using tape to get an extra fold going.

On the other hand, ice cannot easily dissolve compounds to ionize them and make them more prone to degradation. If you got deepfreeze temperatures it's actually dry so I think there is no additional problem there.

It's like: using one barrier is weak but using three layers will make the amount penetrating every layer exceedingly small. A dessicant at the end absorbs all the moisture that still is able to penetrate.
There are types of LDPE plastic that seem to be thin enough to let some compounds pass over time, be wary of them.

A vial is great. It is an excellent barrier, whether you have tiny vials for each compound or one large glass container to create a sturdy first barrier for your whole stash. A vial for every compound eliminates the single point of failure but of course is more expensive.

I'd say for every compound that is intended for long-term storage (which I think 2 years certainly is) use the freezer. The only things that shouldn't be are plant materials that are not completely dry. I'm almost exclusively talking about mushrooms: they turn to goo. With cactus it's actually not a bad idea, if you freeze them, its the start of a freeze-thaw cycle that busts open the cells and allows better extraction or preparation.

Thanks for the answer. My compounds have only been in the freezer for a month and in multiple ziplock bags and there shouldn't be any holes in the bags.

I ordered 12 small glass vials so there's room to keep every compound separate in the freezer.

I guess there would be no harm in storing methoxetamine and phenetylamines in the freezer either although they aren't as susceptible to degradation as tryptamines? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, is storing tryptamines 2 years in glass vials in the freezer realistic? I can accept some small loss in quality after a few years but would like to have them as "fresh" as possible of course.

I have stored quite a few tryptamines(4-sub, 5-sub and plain) in both roomtemp and freezer for well over a year now. Most have been kept in ziplock bags inside a airtight plastic box with dessicant. I recently sampled 5-meo-dmt freebase that is over 1.5 years old. And I can't really tell if it has degraded, it looks exactly the same as when I got it - very fine crystalline powder. it was still potent. 4-ho-mipt fumarate(1 year+) was also sampled recently and it was still the same as when I first tried it, 7 months ago. Both samples were stored in my basement, in near roomtemp conditions.

I have also stored tryptamines for lengths of time inside and outside of the freezer, but usually with dessicants and closed off well. I am amazed how well they seem to keep. But I have not re-sampled all of them so some of this is said based on appearance. Which says little in a lot of cases. 4-HO tryptamines tend to go dark though, and other tryptamines can turn more and more grey as well.

Adhere to the rules of protecting from light, heat, moisture and air and you shouldn't worry too much.

I have no sizable quantities stored away, but I would shed a tear if my broad collection would be vanished. But I think my mini mason jars can sustain a thing or two.

Still, tryptamines should be the first things for me to eat.. lol! No use in starting with the phens.

Thanks for your informative posts. I'll get my glass vials next week, and on the top of that I found several (large) silica gel packs at my workplace which I took home.

So I feel quite confident now. Tryptamines inside glass vials with silica gel packs around them in the freezer should keep them quite safe from degradation :)

I'll put some 2C-C-NBOMe in a glass vial for long time storage too, although I know phens aren't as sensitive to degradation as tryptamines.

Does anyone know if regular vitamin pill bottles are airtight? I use them to store small dram1 vails, but I'm wondering if I should switch to glass.

I've had mipracetin fumarate go chunky and black over a couple of years of storage at room temperature, with no loss of potency. A study I found on Erowid suggested that 4-AcO tryptamines degrade to 4-HO.

Now, some psilocin freebase has turned grey over a couple of weeks at room temperature. What would be the most likely degradation product with this one? Would it entail loss of potency?

Would it help if I salted it (I could only do so atm with food acids like acetic and citric)? I also do not have access to cold storage atm.

i think it depends on the vitamin bottle itself, but from my experience, they mostly arent. they are airtight when first bought because of their seal, but once that's broken they aren't because the manufacturer presumes you will use them up before theres any chance of them degrading due to air exposure.
another sign of not being air tight, ive had amt and apb stored in plastic vitamin (and even some medicine) containers and though it wasnt a problem in the beginning, the smell of the chems got through eventually.
also, iirc, the very plastic they are made of is permeable to oxygen. this is a reason why you cannot store wine in regular plastic containers for long, but maybe im wrong on this one.

They aren't even water tight if shaken hard, so air tight is out of the question indeed.

I am going to check out that site. I like the bottles with the cork on the top but there seems to be clear and not tinted.but let me start by letting you know about what happened with my 2C -- I. About eight months ago I ordered 250 mg of the product I kept stored in the draw that was dark and dry. I used the last of it about two days ago but what's important to note is that about two weeks before I opened it up and weighed out about 23 mg thinking I was going to use it then I kept it uncovered on top of the scale waiting two weeks before I actually used it. When I did use it I thought the effects would be to mesh I thought I might not have any effect however I was wrong it was very strong and was just as intense as the first day I bought the product I often wonder if each box can last up to 10 years.

I would like to get a vial with the cork but not the clear one one but one that is tinted so that light will not get in. there is something about the vial that just seems authentic.

I bought some bags, which can be sealed by ironing over them. The seller claims they are both air and waterproof. does anyone have experience with those? and could they be used instead of vials? putting bags in bags there and then seal it all. thanks.

Does anyone have experience with storing 5 apb? I have the brown powder in a cool, dry, dark room in multiple zipbags. Will this last for a couple of months? Thanks.
