Before I start, there's already a thread on this:
Day or Night tripping? - by the looks of it, it's been merged a few times
Anyhow:
I've not kept count, but memory indicates that I've had more night trips than day trips, however this is simply a matter of circumstance. Both have their advantages.
Day tripping, in my experience, is a colourful, magical experience, with many things to enjoy seeing and appreciating. I'm more awake and energetic. Emotional themes are usually intense but simple, and change quickly: giddy euphoria, wonder at the natural world, wonder at the world we humans have built for ourselves, once or twice intense anxiety (of the OMG EVERYONE CAN SEE ME TRIPPING IN PUBLIC I HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE variety). Visuals are small, extremely detailed, and omnipresent.
Night tripping I find to be more mellow, but only slightly. I attribute this difference to mere fatigue at the end of the day. Night trips often have a more muted emotional aspect, not in intensity - my most profound realisations have been during night trips - but in subtlety. Universal oneness, existential terror, and feelings of ultimate and lasting peace are some of the themes I remember from night trips. Visuals are less defined but appear much larger.
Oh, and there's stars out at night, too :D
All that said, I recommend everyone try the following:
- Watch a sunset.
- Watch a sunrise.
- Watch a moonset.
- Watch a meteor shower. Holy shit.
Good times.
