I guess i have discovered an important aspect why so many snuff preparations with baking soda fail (or lead to nausea).

In Europe it is not very common that you have pure baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) at home.
Instead baking powder is used, which contains not only sodium bicarbonate, but also, to a higher degree,
diphosphate (E450) and also starch to a lesser degree.

So baking powder is baking soda PLUS tartaric acid powder and starch. But when i read the comment by Anaderathena on page 3:

Try adding an acid to your snuff. It will make a bufotenin acid salt that will make you really sick. That's why shamans don't add any acids to the snuff. They know what they are doing.

it came to my mind that (maybe) the use of baking powder instead of pure baking soda causes so much unenjoyable trips.

Worked on me, too. . Might even work twice , depending on how my vendor responds to my email about the seeds lacking virtue.

Well, either way, in case Eric doesn't see, apparently I have some weak seeds as 2.7 grams of snuff taken 3 hours later had zero effect.

Using the steps outlined earlier in the thread a small batch of snuff was prepared from 9 seeds, after sitting out in the air mixed with a little more than half the totall seed weight in edible lime (chuna) they turned from a light tan to a dark brown the color of coffee. A pinch was placed in a base pipe and smoked, a mild stoning effect wth no visuals and no nausia or other negtive side effects. The snuff will be insufflated at a later date.

one gram of snuff using cebil seeds mentioned above was snorted, with minimal pain (same ammount of pain one would get from snorting a gram of any coarse powder) and no nausia, there was almost no effect, slight euphoria, no psychedelic effects. i wonder if the vendor is at fault as was suggested above.

I'd hesitate to blame the vendor. Natural products are variable and potency is just beyond their control. Personally, I believe the folks I ordered from will do something about it, but I could be wrong. Hell, I'm still not 100% certain I didn't screw up somewhere.

My supplier is likely to at least test the potency of their seeds and pull them if they are subpar. I don't expect much more and I've come out on the winning end a time or two when ordering as well so it all washes out. Surely they will be noticing some increased demand as of late so if they like loyal customers they'll find a source for some humdingers if they can.

Unfortunately even after following an extraction using acidified water, alcohol and acetone, an extract was left that proved inactive.

These seeds are , apparently worthless (there is always a chance I screwed up somewhere), so if any of you plan on ordering Anadenanthera Colubrina seeds, don't buy them from US or canadian suppliers as they all use essentially the same supply chain. That is unless they'll vouch for the quality of the product.

Dont feel too skeptical due to a bad batch being shipped out. I did most of my trials quite a while back (over a year ago) and the seeds I got were plenty active. Wait until a new batch is in and try it again. Its cheap and worth your time, if for no reason than to explore the very bizarre place anadenathera snuffs create.

so it would seem i recived a bad batch, what am i to do with my bag of poor quality seeds, is an extraction the only way to salvage them?
I do have access to MAOIs, maybe the same insufflated gram in conjunction with 150mg moclobemide would be another story.

Anyone tried the extracts rectally? In my experiences tryptamines are happy in your ass (but not DMT).

While in costa rica , I tried doing an extraction of the seeds but I apparently screwed something up. Basically I cooked the powdered seeds in water made ph 3 boiled off most of the water and added ipa and filtered out the solid crud then evaporated the alcohol down to a syrup and added calcium hydroxide and mixed the crap out of it till it no longer smelled of ammonia. Then that was soaked in acetone and filtered and evaporated. Then the stuff was dissolved in IPA and twice the volume of water was added the solids were filtered out (and saved) and I was left with some yellowish gook that doesn't seem to smell of anything interesting. I tried vaporizing a little but it produced little vapor and no effects.

Erick , I couldn't tell you if the seeds were mature or not. They did seem small but I really don't know what small is for AC. They were about the size of a dime but were dark in color.

And if you can't get it to work, just still make the post explaining the poll, and a mod will create it for you. I can't recall but I though that maybe only mods can create polls. I haven't been a civilian for a while, though

An excellent vendor just informed me that much of the stock of seeds currently available are the first harvest of the year and may be on the immature side. I think that buying seeds that are considered not viable might increase the odds of getting good seeds. Course I'd want to buy seeds the vendor says aren't viable because they are old. The batch on the way are an old harvest.

BTW, for those who are skeptics, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that anadenanthera seeds were the most popular entheogen used by ancient south and central american cultures. Coupled with positive reports from Ott and Ratsch, I don't see much reason to doubt the potential of these seeds. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that the future holds more exciting discoveries for entheogenic plant enthusiasts.

I will certainly stick it through till I get a good batch of seeds and am enjoying the whole process, including the dissapointments since I've already explored most of the biggies of the plant world.

how important is it to peel the skin off of the seeds, with four of five its no big deal, but with hundreds you could be peeling and separating for days.

im taking your advice smyth and making a snuff extract with IPA, will 15 grams of snuff be a suffecient quantity? Thats 15 grams with skin still attached.
