The Big & Dandy Basic Mescaline/Cactus Questions Thread - Round Two!

If there is freebase mescaline in the plant the acidic environment will convert it to a water soluble salt and pull it out of the plant matter and into solution.

Ah thank you.

Vinegar would work but if you're doing that you might want to continue on to an acid/base extraction... unless you want to drink vinegar. :/

Haha I drink a little bit of balsamic vinegar sometimes. It is quite tasty. :) I have no idea how it would go with San Pedro. I am guessing citrus fruit tastes better.

Most trichocereus species look similar. I don't know of any toxic species of trichocereus. Try looking around about this, I suppose there's always a chance.

If I found a trichocereus looking cactus I'd do an acid/base extraction on it to get crystals and then reagent test it to see if it's mescaline.

Can't find anything about toxic cacti whatsoever, though apparently there are some that are not that good for you if you'd get a prick or eat a lot of it. But I don't think they look alike, you'd have to eat cactus flowers or seeds, and even then the level of toxicity is quite low. I can't speak in absolute certainty because I'm not an expert but I think the extreme reactions you are talking about are either very unlikely to happen or virtually impossible.

Nothing as generally hazardous as mushroom hunting at least.

I'd say that depends on the type of pesticide, that is not totally the same as pesticides on apples meant for consumption right?
But if you want to be careful with either issue just try a small dose like 1/10 or 1/5 to check if you get any adverse reaction like the San Pedro guy and that should tell you if you're good to go with a normal dose of cactus.
Pesticide issues can be avoided by rinsing with water really well, maybe even a cloth and some alcohol? Take the spikes off first of course you dont want that in your hand.

Many problems can be avoided partially or completely if you put in some effort can they not?

It's pretty hard to mistake another cactus for a Trichocereus, they're quite distinct. Cereus might be a potential, but they are extremely skinny compared to Trichocereus pachanoi.(google image them)

Pesticides? I dunno, Cacti are pretty much like a fortress, it would be stupid to use pesticides, but I wouldn't put it past commerical growers....even if they have pesticides, just rinse them as suggested by Solipsys. You won't even be ingesting the outer layer of the cacti anyway.

Personally, If I get a cacti from a mainstream garden store, I repot it with my own soil mixture, and let it grow about 2-3 months before cutting it. It's like the gift that keeps giving....

Does LSA have any cross-tolerance with Mescalin? I'll probably be doing LSA the day before Mescalin, and possibly the day after.

Yes they would have cross-tolerance; they work on the same receptor (5-HT2a) in the brain.

As to how much of a dose you would need to counteract tolerance; I do not know. I have never had 2 trips so close to each other. It usually doesn't work out well, after the first trip the next ones wouldn't be as pleasant or as meaningful. After a trip it's good to just let it integrate. Right after a trip I'm thinking of relaxing and soaking it in, I would feel so strung out in the second trip.

For what it's worth; if you decide to just have 1, really good trip. Take a good dose of that mescaline. :)

Thanks for your advice. I think i'll do the mescaline first in that case and only do the LSA if I really feel like it the next day.

I'll probably end up waiting a couple days atleast for the LSA.

^well if it's already been cut, and the cut side looks clean(no black/moldy shit), you won't need to cut it again. just make sure it's fully calloused over before putting it in the soil.
you can also use a rooting hormone, if you're impatient.
Once it has a full system of roots, and it's grown to a size you're happy with, cut it at the base and a good chunk off the top. the base will sprout new, possibly multiple buds, and the top part you let callous over and drop in the soil again. The middle...well thats up to you what you do with it.

I purchased 2 san pedros 3 months ago and did exactly what you said. It turned out perfect. i will post pictures when I get my camera back from my buddy. Gimme a week at least. :|

Hey I have a specific question about these peyote buttons I saw for sale at this local headshop where I'm on vacation at in Germany. I'm interested in buying one but I'm wondering if it looks like enough for one dose and if so what would be the most efficient way of taking it?

Here's a picture of the cactus that was for sale, with the price blurred out of course :P

no that doesnt look like a fully mature peyote button.

i have never used peyote so i could be wrong but i dont believe that what you pictured is usuable, maybe i am wrong n it is so wait for more replies but i believe it is not. however that is pretty kool and if you believe you could bring it back to America somehow it might be worth a shot.

i dunno how much stress cacti can handle but if you could put that into a carry-on n it would be ok that would be pretty kool

obviously though doing that would be risky and quite possibly something you dont want to mess with which is very understandable and quite possibly a wise decision but man that would be a nice bringback

That is such a cool plant, but defnitely not enough to trip off of.

I'd buy one anyway and try to bring it back just for the sake of having a growing Peyote to add to my plant collection.

It won't be a consumable dose for many, many years and by that point you won't want to cut it. Let it grow, they'll live to be as old as you. :)

I don't know how you could get that home and this isn't the place to talk about such activities but I doubt they'd throw you in the clink for trying to bring home one measly Peyote cactus.

Yes they will. And putting it in your carry-on or checked luggage would be possibly the dumbest idea in the world. Customs specifically looks for people smuggling plants/foods into America to prevent the spread of molds/diseases. Your best bet would be to mail it to yourself but I happen to know of someone who had peyote mailed to them from Europe, and they ended up going to jail for several months and are now felons.

Also, that is about 1/10 of a dose.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_constant

It's so cool: peyote has the form of a form constant, actually almost exactly like the one depicted there...
But they can also cause you to see form constants!

The whole world is nothing more and nothing less than patterns, the material the patterns are in doesn't matter and is a projected property arising from interacting patterns once more.
Patterns can also cross over from one plane / dimension / type / perspective to another...
Still peyote makes one hell of a coincedence.

Thanks for the replies guys, I dont think im going to be bringing it back to the states. I was just hoping it would be ready for personal use while i'm over here :)

heroic dose of mescaline

i've done a lot of research on the net, and i cant really find much info on migh dose mescaline experiences. right now i'm brewing some very potent san pedro extract. it has 30 inches of fresh cactus and 30 grams of dried and powdered SP skin. im hoping that the mescaline content of the extract will be somewhere in the 800-1200mg range. does anyone have any experience with mescaline at this dosage? iv'e had plenty of experience with san pedro, but never at such a high dose. can anyone give me a little insight on what to expect?
