The Big & Dandy Basic Mescaline/Cactus Questions Thread - Round Two!

+1

there are a lot of vaguely similar looking cacti and that one is probably one of them.

My thoughts exactly. There are thousands of species that look very similar that aren't active. I bought a whole bunch of "mystery trichocereus" seedlings from home depot. They have all the indications that it's an active trichocereus but I wont find out until I grow them for 5 years, extract it, and ingest it. However I like growing them anyway :)

So i may try an alcohol extraction in the near future, I've read a fair number of tek's, Which ones are your favorites, or have you had the best results with? Links would help btw...

I have a question. So I used isopropyl alcohol to extract the mescaline from cactus powder and now I'm evaporating the alcohol. I have the solution in a pyrex dish sitting on top of a pot of boiling water. Is there a chance that mescaline is also evaporating out of the solution and not just the alcohol? That would suck.

Nope... the only way mescaline would evaporate is if it was volatile, which it isn't. Salts do not evaporate out of solution. Think about salt water... when it evaporates it leaves behind a crust of salts. The same is true with alkaloids in solution, regardless of the solvent they're dissolved in.

Thanks. Good news. I asked because I've done this once before and the final goo was nowhere near as strong as it should have been. But I guess it was some other factor.

Yeah, cacti are extremely varying in potency. There's really no way to tell unless you extract, purify and isolate the mescaline, and weigh the result. Well, except for ingesting it of course. :)

alright, say you have a cactus and there are two columns growing out of the bottom of the same plant. one is pretty fat but shorter and the other is long and skinny, if i cut the long skinny one thats been around a while will the short one grow out skinny from the date i cut the tall part?

my hypothesis is less photosynthesis would be going on and give stunted growth... i just want to know if the columns share nutrients and sugars and such...

The fat section should not etoliate assuming the cactus is in active growth. It will grow slower however, due to less photosynthesis.

hmm thanks, also, is springtime a good time to transplant a cactus? i got a 4 inch cutting of some san pedro and inside its not getting any light because the tilt of the earth wont let any sun in the south side of my house anymore :(

yes, spring is a good time.

I just potted a fat 6 inch cutting 2 days ago. he's sitting on the kitchen counter getting some rays right now :D

I'm sure this has been asked before (but I'm too buzzed too search :P ):

what are the most interesting things to do during a mescaline experience? best settings?

:( i went to transplant my cactus and there was fuzzy white mold growing on the top of the soil, i hope it didnt hit the roots too hard... i transplanted anyway, got alot of the dirt off the roots..

im worried, will the fungus continue to grow even thought its outdoors now? will it rot my roots?

is there anything i can buy that will kill it but not my cactus? shiiiitttt guys :( :(

oh but how cool would it be if there was a kind of fungus that would help the roots out and produce dopamine or an analog that would make a 2c in the cactus!
