Whats the best method of extraction for san pedro besides an acid/base extraction?

Is there any advantage to soaking the dried skin in high proof alcohol vs just making tea and evaporating? I know first hand the evaporated tea turns into black goo that is very hard to work with. Does anyone know if using high proof alcohol and evaporating would work any better?

I've found tea is tolerable, but it's hard to dose high enough without puking.

The skin put into gel caps worked pretty good. But i ate those while on lsd=D so i don't think i would have noticed any nausea.

I'm just curious if anyone out there has found anything effective besides an A/B? I'd love to do an a/b but it's just not possible right now.

bump. getting some nice sized pedro cuttings very soon. would like to know the best and or easiest ways to get the effects from my cactii.

is just eating them raw ok? should i make a tea? or should i just go ahead and do the boiling thing and extract through a t shirt etc. which i was planning on trying.

does the citric acid really help with cooking time?? and how easy is this to get right the first time? sorry for all the questions just looking for some quick help thanks!

I know this doesn't help you, but I wanted to report that the most recent time I had cactus, I had 28 grams of dried T. peruvianus chips. I ground them finely with a coffee grinder and since I didn't have enough time or gel caps to cap it all up, I put it into 3 shot glass and filled each with water and stirred it up as best as possible. I then took one shot at a time, 10 minutes apart, and just swallowed it quickly and washed it down with fruit juice. Surpringly, I wasn't bothered much and never got any nausea whatsoever, and had an excellent trip.

I would estimate 200-250mg of mescaline in that amount. Strong cactus chips, I guess.

Can anyone identify this cactus? It grows profusely in my backyard (SoCal, near LA), and I was wondering what type it is. I'm hoping it's San Pedro or Peruvian Torch, etc ;)

Peruvian torch look-alikes

So I was walking past this small flower shop and something catches my eye. www.redeyefrog.co.uk/peruvian_torch_cacti_300.jpg this image is almost identical to what I see, but I'm thinking this is too good to be true. Are there any peruvian torch look-alikes? If there are then they're probably look-alikes.

But I'm gonna go tomorrow and ask anyway if they know the name of the cacti, would just like to know if there are look-alikes.

Fingers crossed :)

Im no expert, but they look trichocereus to me.

edit: oops misread...... those pics ARE t. peruvianus :D

There are many similar looking cacti, such as cereus and myrtillo......so maybe someone with some more expertise can help better explain.

the 'v' notch is a big indicator, as are the needles.......

there are some good ID threads over on the Shaman Australis forum.....maybe check them out?

bump again...
does anyone out there know a better way to consume mescaline cacti besides tea or dried skin in gel caps? All I can find is variations of A/B extractions, and for some of us an A/B extraction isn't possible.

heres my take on the simple MOA's:

The tea makes me sick just thinking about it....well actually the tea is not that bad. it tastes like a bitter earthy plant boiled in water for a while. But it is rough on the stomach, and I found it hard to dose high enough without throwing up. And the evaporated tea was a sticky nightmare to try to work with.
and
After trying gel caps once (worked fine) but now every time I try to swallow a pill it's wayyyyyyy harder. I was on acid when i did the dried skin so i don't think i noticed the stomach discomfort, but the next day or two I definately felt it.

In short tea and gel caps are too hard to work with, is there any crude method of extraction?
or am I stuck chasing down dried skin gel caps with cacti tea?:p

Last time I used it I mixed the powder in with shots of water and chugged it down. It was nasty but by holding my nose and washing it down quick it wasn't difficult. And I experienced almost no nausea. Of course, keep in mind that I have a strong stomach... not much makes me nauseous.

I don;t have any problems sucking down 6 oz of cactus tea. Just serve warm and add lots and lots of sugar. But, I am going to try a new approach this weekend. starting with a poiled down tea and dehydrating. Hoping to get arround the "sticky goo" by adding corn meal just as it begins to get sticky. the hope is that by adding enough corn meal I can create a puddy like substance that can rolled up un balls and swallowed. I will let you know how it goes.

Just thought of a different method I might try. Boil up 4 or 5 doses and make jello out of them (like jello shooters with Vodka) Not sure how it will work but might give it a try.

I just finished writing up a report of my latest (third) experience with cactus, in this case Trichocereus peruvianus (Peruvian torch). You can find it here.

*Warning: This is my longest report to date! 8o

i've read about this online, sounds like a great idea for the most part. I just want to avoid the bitter taste. And ever since trying gel caps, I gag evertime i try to swallow a pill.

who knows, maybe i'll get lucky and my cacti will be potent (if i ever decide to eat them)

Well, instead of making another big thread about it, I thought I'd post here instead.

My friend has San Pedro tea, and she tried it and got a fairly good experience from what I hear.

I plan to drink this, and I plan to enjoy it very much :D

What should I expect?
Vomiting, visuals, body sensations, comparisons to familiar psychedelics, etc.

Thanks again ;)

Ok so I went and bought them today.

Here are some pictures with poor quality:

Should I just turn this into a thread?

^No. Read this entire thread and all those questions are answered. Read some trip reports if you want further info on Vomiting, visuals, body sensation etc. Peace.
