The all-new Girlie Thread: Post your beauty secrets here!

i actually can't stand the smell of that cocoa butter stuff. only person I know who cant!

Lush is great for the environment, and the bath stuff is cool, but unfortunately most of the facial skincare is woeful. Many of their products contain unnecessary irritants such as peppermint, lemon, or even pine oil, and all their cleansing products contain sodium lauyrel sulfate. Some other lowlights include:

The products "Ultrabland" and "Lip Service" contain sodium borate (otherwise known as Borax)

The sunscreen "Ultralight" contains St. John's Wort, which contains several substances that become toxic to skin when exposed to sunlight.

Great customer service though.

I tried a Lush conditioning treatment, and even my extra-thick, non oily hair looked like i'd not washed it for about 5 years, it was stringy, oily and horrid. I took it back and they suggested another treatment. I advised them that i had a semi-permanent colour in my hair, and they assured me that it wouldn't strip it. Well... it did. :\

I think for shampoo/conditioners, i'll stick to what hair specialists have to say. My hairdresser is great, she won't always recommend the most expensive shampoo, but always suggests one that's best for my hair. I'm not using Kerastase for a while, my hair has grown tolerant to it; i will return to it though, as it's an amazing product. :)

The funny thing about LUSH for me, is that i can't stand the smell of the shop, which is interesting as i love going into my local essential oils shop. I think it's the soapy smell (i don't really like the smell of soap, and never use it on my skin).

^Sorry to be pedantic here, but be aware these guys were bought out by L'oreal who test on animals. They may have 'natural' products, but the parent company have a history in cruelty to animals.

Oh really??? That's really disappointing to hear :(

Can anyone refer a really good, reasonably priced day-spa/massage centre in Byron Bay? I'm heading there for my birthday, and by god i'm going to be pampered for 1/2 a day :D I've always preferred word-of-mouth references for this kind of thing. :)

^ I've never been to a day spa and it's something I'm dying to do. Next time you're in mebourne?? :D

While we're on recommendations, beauticians in melbourne. I need to find one.

^I definitely recommend Brazilian Butterfly. The most professional, clean and reasonable place you'll find in Melbourne. Guaranteed. :)
I've tried a lot of waxing places, but these guys win by a country mile.

And they have loads of locations - closest for you would be Bridge Road, I think? Unless you go into the city. :)

Yep - Brazilian Butterfly is the best option if you want it done properly and don't want any traumatic experiences.

and just to circumvent the hoo ha and prove I can be a girly girl as well as being an annoying shit, can anyone tll me if Australis is truly not tested on animals?
:)
