^Try Lanolin- I've used it all my life and it's the bomb. The problem with paw-paw ointment is it's a barrier cream, like vaseline, so it protects, but doesn't moisturise.

^ I'm just rediscovering paw-paw ointment... it's the only thing stopping my lips from cracking this winter.

paw paw ointment! that product title is too cute for words...all i can do is imagine little animals playfully dabbing their furry paws in cream.

"'Silver Roses
You have Silver Violets, now you have Silver Roses as well. I have a silver rose pin from the city of Hildesheim in Germany and that really popped into my head before Silver Violets did! Rose, of course, with spun sugar, vanilla, musk and magic. This one will be sticking around at least through St. Valentine's Day and perhaps beyond.
Characteristics: Floral, vanilla, charming, scent locket, feminine, home scent, long lasting.'

what is spun sugar??? hehe

I might have to do that.

Chemist or supermarket?

Select Coles have it, but pretty much all chemists do. I usually get Essentials brand- green and white tube.

Paw Paw Ointment
for everything

probably already been said ey

Aloe Vera gel (u can buy clear bottles of it in Price line) is another good topical ..thingy. Like the Paw Paw Ointment sorta..

Agreed, Paw Paw Ointment is very good =D

I've been a faithful paw paw ointment consumer for years, but have recently switched to 100% pure lanolin. It's called Lanislol and it's actually nipple cream (used by breastfeeding mothers). It's fanfuckingtastic... my lips feel nipple-soft! :D

IMO it dumps all over paw paw ointment, as like Jo said, it's a barrier cream. Also, i've recently found out that paw paw ointment has petroleum jelly in it. :\ If i wanted that, i'd buy a tub of Vaso.

Yes, thanks for pointing that out, I am aware of the origins of lanolin (considering my mum lives on a massive sheep farm in NZ 8)). Were you just pointing the orgins of lanolin out, or were you making another point?

My point is that, Lucas paw paw ointment is petroleum based, i'd much rather use something natural.

After researching a little, i found this product:

Simmons - Petroleum-free paw paw salve 25g tube

Contains NO PETROLEUM JELLY unlike other paw paw ointments Made with 51mg/gram of fresh paw paw and the rest is made from vegetable waxes and oils. More papaw per volume than other leading brands. Ingredients: fermented fresh paw paw fruit, Rhus succedanea wax, glycerine, canola oil, hydrogenated castor oil, beeswax, corn starch.

It seems alot better than Lucas's paw paw ointment.

Also, if anyone suffers from psoriasis, my mum has used Ruddock's Cow Udder Ointment for years and it's worked wonders: It's lanoline as well. She used Lucas's paw paw ointment for a while, but it didn't work too well... i'd say because of the petroleum base.

The only lanolin I could find was a home brand one, which incidentally also has a petroleum product on the ingredient list.

Where did you buy the Lanislol from?

I just checked the back of the tube... it's actually called Lansinoh. My bad. :\

It contains 100% hypoallergenic pure anhydrous lanolin.

Here is the blurb for it (from a breast feeding website)

Lansinoh® Brand Lanolin, the leading topical in its category, is recognized around the world and is the only topical nipple treatment endorsed by La Leche League International, considered the foremost experts on breastfeeding.

* Created with a patented refining process, Lansinoh uses ultra-pure, medical-grade lanolin to help heal sore, cracked nipples, a major reason women discontinue breastfeeding.
* Lansinoh Brand Lanolin is the only lanolin available that contains no preservatives or additives of any kind, so it does not have to be removed before breastfeeding.

I figure that if it's made so that the mother doesn't have to wipe it off her nipples before the baby feeds, it must be ok for my lips. :)

It's not hugely cheap, a 7g tube costs about 7 bucks, but it's just amazing. It's so dry up here at the moment, and my lips crack really easily and they haven't since i started using it.

:)

I got it from the chemist (in the baby stuff section) but you could try other places too...

Oops, didn't mean my comment to be rude. Lanolin just kind of grosses me out. I still use it sometimes though. Chapstick original is my all time number one lipbalm, however.

I didn't reply to your comment- I replied to Neodymium's comment, and my response was probably a little harsh anyway. :\

RE chapstick... Like other barrier-balms, it still contains petroleum-based products, as well as metals and mineral oil, which i'm not down with.

Here is a list of active and inactive ingredients in chapstick: http://www.drugstore.com/qxp160637_333181_sespider/chapstick/lip_balm_triple_pack_original.htm

Damn, Neodymium is an old forgotten login of mine that I didn't even realise I had logged in as! Talk about a brain fart. 8(

Itchy eyes!

Anyone got any recommendations for hypoallergernic eye makeup?

An annoying problem has cropped up since I've been pregnant - god knows why! - my EYES have been really itchy, dry and sore, and seem to react with any mascara/ eyeliner I currently use. I am rubbing my eyes raw by the end of the day :( I'm just using Revlon eyeliner and Maybelline mascara.

Anyone used Alamay? are there any other good sensitive skin brands you know of?

You did that to me in the BB thread :/

I know this is a silly one but i recommend 'Sally Hansen' nail hardener. Even if you don't wear nail polish - it keeps your nails so healthy and strong. Also it stops your nail polish from chipping, and makes it generally last longer.
