Bupe Suboxone/Buprenorphine FAQ and Megathread v.1; 2007 - 2010

So I have been on suboxone (24mg) for about 6 days now and I feel as though my cravings are coming back more and more each day... Also, after reading almost ALL the megathread I feel as though I'm taking WAY too much but that is what I was prescribed.. anyways... I am just wondering if suboxone was even really designed to stop the cravings or just help with w/d???

Yes I love suboxone, it has saved my life, got me off the needle and i been clean for over 10 months using it. I used 8 milligrams a day taken all at once. I just recently been snorting some heroin though, as I have taken a break off the suboxone, but i have seen the light with the needle and am most certain I am through with shooting dope. Besides shooting dope isnt worth it anyways because it messes up your tolerance so much. I like the middle ground of snorting, more mellow and dosnt drive me insane to always need that next big rush, like mainlining heroin does to me.

without suboxone i would have been left in the dust, in terms of ever qutting shooting up heroin. thank you suboxone for giving me my freedom and sanity back, there is no price or high that is too good to sacrifice ones sanity, in my opinion.

Subs don't really give a euphoria...idk if they do if you don't have a tolerance, but if you are using them for maintenance and are expecting a heroin/oxy type euphoria, it's not going to happen. Bupe gives me some motivation, makes me slightly happier probably, but that it different from euphoria.

How can u define euphoria for everyone? Everyone is different. Maybe the buzz bupe provides to you isnt euphoric, but what if it is to someone else? dont be narrowminded. What if motivation, and being slightly happier is euphoria to someone else?

Give it some time man , Took me maybe 12-14 days to get over the worst cravings.. It's been around a month and I still have some really bad days. Saw my old oxy dealer 2 days ago and that ruined my whole day..

Anyway what I'm sayin is there will always be some bad days but in time it will help a lot with the cravings.

Suboxone does eliminate cravings for some and seems to at least reduce them for most...plus the blocking property is pretty annoying, especially if you've been on them awhile.

You're going to have to find other things in life to occupy your mind, and to learn that a craving is just a craving and will go away.

For myself, I know that if I don't go running for a few days, my cravings greatly intensify, so I usually try to stick with running if I'm trying to stay away from H.

6 days (assuming you went straight from using to suboxone) away from using isn't really that much as far as eliminating cravings. It sounds like a lifetime when you had trouble going more than 12 hours (or less) without using, but you're still in close proximity to using and your 'old' lifestyle. Cravings do go down in intensity and frequency as time goes by, just takes some time. :)

What and how much were you using?

I was taking about 240 - 300mg of oxycodone a day and if I couldn't get any of those then about 200mg of hydrocodone... (Yes my liver is SHOT)... I was only on that high a dose for about the last 2 or 3 months, before that it was maybe 60mg a day... wow things go downhill fast...

ALSO*** This is going to be a really dumb question but I was told NO questions are dumb questions in 3rd grade so here we go... When I got the sub script the doctor told me to hold it under the tongue until it dissolves and then SPIT out the liquid... however, the nurse told me to swallow the liquid which is VERY disgusting... Can someone please tell me the CORRECT way to take this medication???

ONE MORE QUESTION*** (This is a weird one)
I have noticed recently that when i take the sub I get a nice motivation... almost UP feeling which is great. However, when I use smokeless tobacco after I've taken it I feel that the effect of the sub completely changes and I get very tired and almost don't feel the sub working anymore??? Is this just all in my head or has anyone experienced this as well??? Any reason smokeless tobacco would diminish the effect of suboxone???

Err.. thought i conquored this beast a while ago... So here i go... Recently(3weeks) iv been doing a lil less then a bundle a day of H(east coast powder). And Yesterday at 5:00pm i did a 5 bag shot. I woke up this morning at 12:00 and cleaned out some bags n basically got a 1/4th of a bag of a shot(didnt feel a thing). So knowing all this.... When do you think i'll be safe to take an 8mg suboxone? later today?? tomorow? please help. As ill be traveling tomorow. Thanks Yousss!

As soon as you are in withdrawals. If you've only been using for 3 weeks, this will probably occur around 36 hours since your last shot.

And you really don't need 8mg for that kind of habit. 4mg would be plenty.

Ok, I know that many people would love the help of Suboxone and only an asshole aka addict would abuse it....but has anyone had success breaking through the barrier of Suboxone WITHOUT IV'ing. My friend suffers from a rare form of Parkinsonism (not full blown Parkison's but he has a pretty gnarly shake) and he wants to actually get off about once every 3 months despite being on Suboxone maintainence at 8mg a day.

How long does he need to wait to get high off a dose of Oxycodone intranasal? He states that even 2 80mg pills around the 24 hour mark have only left him well before and with no sign of euphoria. I feel this seems to show that he is either sensitive to Suboxone or it is incredibly strong.

If anyone has any advice for breaking through Suboxone (minus the needle) it is welcome.

160mg of oxycodone won't get you too high after being on 8mg of suboxone a day.

I wouldn't advise IVing OC's, that just sounds gross, and you won't get much of a rush (not like you are going to, anyways)...

The person you're talking about (whether it's you or not no one cares) is going to have to wait several days, not taking buprenorphine, to take OC's again and get high.

Without the several days of coming down off of buprenorphine, you just won't get any effect.

The whole wait until WD thing is very helpful, but like my friend said "easier said than done!" He stated that he feels somewhat "crappy" at the 24 hour point, but it is nowhere near WD. Actually he stated that he was able to stay stable for about 72 hours from his last dose of Suboxone (although at 16mg vs. the 8mg he is on now), so he may be at the end of the spectrum also. Thanks everyone for the input. It seems that he may just give up on the idea which is a good thing. Looks like Suboxone's blocking mechanism is very useful when it comes to non IV users/addicts.

Oh, well then stay on buprenorphine then, if you don't like coming off of it.

You can't have your cake and eat it too, otherwise the cake wouldn't be there anymore, silly!

I got my hands on a couple of suboxones. I could crush it up and snort a line, and catch a opiate buzz.

How long can I do this for? Is it even possible to get addicted to suboxone?

-PLUR

Please tell me you've been doing mu-agonists...tell me how bad the precipitated WD's were, and let me know how bad it hurts...

people who don't know things about drugs don't deserve to be doing them.

You're not going to catch an "opiate buzz" from suboxone.

It's possible to get addicted to anything, even if it's not a drug...so yes, it is possible.

Will that stuff raise up your opiate tolerance? I have high tolerance to pretty much every class of drug, and don't want my tolerance being ruined by this.

-PLUR

Your tolerance will be ruined by this (especially since you're snorting them), and you're not even getting a mu-agonist high!

Isn't that funny? I bet you feel pretty jipped right now...too bad you didn't know how to correctly dose buprenorphine and still keep your tolerance low...

What the hell??

I snorted 1/2 a pill and was supposed to catch a buzz. 15 minutes later I got really nauseated and puked TWO times!

Is this drug supposed to make you puke? Whats wrong with this drug???:X
I just wanted to get high!!

-PLUR

AHAHAHHAHAHA

They didn't make suboxone for people like you to get high...TOLD YOU SO! =D

It's a octogon pill that has a N8 on them, what the hell does that mean? How much am I supposed to take to get high?
YOU DON'T GET TO BECAUSE YOU'RE FUCKING RETARDED!!!

Enjoy your ignorance and precipitated withdrawals. =D

How can you get addicted to something if its taken to get unaddicted to another drug? can't you take another drug to get unaddicted to this drug?

-PLUR
You weren't supposed to be taking buprenorphine, and now you're complaining because you violated federal, state, local laws...all to NOT get high...and you're complaining to us why?

I think you should go talk to your parents about why they decided to not have an abortion. You should argue that it would have saved them much trouble to have done so many years ago. That's more like it.

Nothing better than people who take something they know absolutely nothing about.. 8)

I know, right?

It's like, driving a car with no previous experience. Or, jumping into the cockpit of an airplane without knowing what you're doing...

Good going, do you know what you're doing? No? Why not just step aside then, and let someone more experienced than you take over?

There you go.

But no, instead people had to make dumbass decisions for themselves, just so they could end up like this: :! and :X

lol

Swallow, the doctor was probably hitting the crack pipe when he told you that one. You could spit it out, but it's not worth doing so.

Nicotine diminishes motivation, that's why.

If you prefer oral cancer over lung cancer, continue what you're doing.
If you prefer no cancer over any cancer, take up smoking marijuana over tobacco.

If he's been addicted before, they'll come back a lot sooner than that. Might start WDing after 12-15 hours, maybe even sooner since his last shot was so small.

Sqirting saliva from under the tongue?

OK here is one I haven't heard before and I did UTFSE. I am on suboxone, prescribed 8mgs a day. I hate the taste of it and I try to plug my dose if my colon is empty. If it's not, I'll skip a day or take it sublingually. So yesterday I wanted to try crushing the pill and putting the powder under the tongue, I read here that it will dissolve fast and that way I wouldn't have to deal with the disgusting taste as long. I crushed half a pill and put the powder under my tongue , then closed my mouth trying to push my tongue down so the stuff would dissolve.
It was almost painful to have that stuff in there like that! I held it as long as I could and I wanted to look in the mirror to see if it was gone and when I did, when I lifted my tongue to look underneath a big squirt of saliva came out of the area where the veins are for sublingual administration of meds. It was like a fountain spurting up from inside my mouth.

Never saw such a thing , never heard of it. Anyone?

PS It did dissolve really fast and I recommend crushing subs for sublingual use, it was gone in seconds. It was more intense but way shorter.

I gave up marijuana when I got a job..... Thanks for your opinion though... and Nicotine has never diminished my motivation before, just after I have been mixing it with suboxone...

I know I asked a stupid question but I'm not retarded...

Okay so I had been noticing my suboxone wasn't having the same effect on me the past few days.. it was providing some relief but definitely not like when I first started 9 days ago. So I went the the Doctor to pick up my new script and I decided to take one out of the new script to see if there was any difference.

THERE WAS... so my question is can suboxone go bad?? it wasn't old at all but I swear to you the new ones made a WORLD of difference... could it have anything to do with keeping them in a place that stays pretty warm during the day??? anyone experienced anything like this??

Since when does nicotine decrease motivation?

And smoking anything (that is, heating it to vaporize some active components whilst burning others) is never safe at all. If he were vaporizing his marijuana or tobacco, then he wouldn't have to worry about cancer.

You are supposed to keep them in a cool, dry place but some warmth shouldn't decompose them that bad. Sounds very strange to me.

Ive been taking suboxone for years...

I only take around 1mg every couple of days for pain management/ cravings...

Sometimes i get the worst migraines from suboxone.

Does anyone else get terrible headaches ?

Sometimes even a dose like .5mg will give me a terrible headache for hours

Been getting them for about a year... doesnt happen everytime though

It seems i was getting them alot less when i was taking higher doses daily...

I spit out my suboxone everytime after its finished dissolving(around 5 mins) just because ive noticed when i do swallow its a guaranteed headache

I guess I should have said, "it has the potential to".

I've seen some people smoke nicotine (especially people who were not regular tobacco users) and end up tired/depressed/lazy, while complaining of said effect.

If he were vaporizing his marijuana or tobacco, then he wouldn't have to worry about cancer.
The THC in marijuana encourages cancerous cells to die off. Studies that compared light, moderate, and heavy cannabis use and found there is no increase in cancer risk in any group.

Smoking marijuana does not cause cancer. Marijuana has ZERO related deaths.

Finally, if you're getting headaches from buprenorphine, I would suggest to lower the dose. It might be too high.

i agree. my doc had me on 8mg a day. I was getting horrible headaches every single day. I went down to 4mg a day with no problem and no headache at all.
