signs of overdose on ecstasy

Well very large doses of MDMA do cause serotonin syndrome. The reason why most doses don't is because the body has many ways of clearing serotonin out of the brain. The serotonin transporters should still be largely functional at most doses of MDMA, though the amount of serotonin released by them initially outweights the amount they can take back. There are also enzymes around which break down MDMA...

Thats why if you take an MAOI and MDMA, you're really running the serotonin syndrome risk, because the brain has hardly any ways of getting rid of the serotonin.

Glad this thread exists.

Something happenned on friday to a new aquaintance of mine. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Friend H, was with us for most of the night. I know she had 1 pill in one club, and then another at an afterhours party we were at.

Afte the second pill was ingested (which turned out being clean gelcap) we were sitting in a chill room. After snorting some K, I think she had one line...at some point, her eyes rolled back, and it sounded like she was having multiple orgams, her eyes became closed, and her body was thrasing around a bit (wasn't so bad) I was tripping on 2-cb (first time) with mda, and other stuff, so I thought prehaps my eyes were tricking me, but this was def. the case. She kept having these orgamsic like sounds, like ahh...ahhhhh like that. This lasted for about 10 min. or so

Then she sort of went limp, and she fell on the floor, thought she was dead. It got pretty intense at that point, and I think she revived herself quite quickly, but she went limp again, and again. She would revive herself, and then it would happen again. I wasn't sure if she was just pretending to be like that, to seek attention (you had to be there, to understand my viewpoint), but I left at some point to do a line of coke.

When I came back maybe 20-30 min. later, she was still in this state, and she was quite pale. The next time I saw her,she started making out with this other girl, so I wasn't sure what was going on.

Do you think she was faking it, or was this real (based on the symptoms)

I know what you mean about faking it, or at least exagerating... But a lot of MDMA, and ketamine, can take most people to some pretty interesting places. It doesn't really sound like serotonin syndrome or any MDMA "overdose" type symptomes; it just sounds like someone who is really really high of MDMA; I've seen people sit and make squeeling sounds for like 45 minutes and all kinds of stupid shit...

Hallucinogens and dissociatives fuck people up.

Okay, so in other words; the brain is well equipped to combat chemical imbalances, in this case, Serotonin. When a second drug is introduced to the body that plays with Serotonin, it makes it all that much harder for the brain to combat, significantly increasing chances of not-so-fun Serotonin Syndrome.

What I struggle to comprehend though, is at exactly what point does Serotonin Syndrome become bad? ie; no longer enjoyable.
Because, as already mentioned, nearly all of us are experiencing some level of Serotonin Syndrome when we're rolling, having the time of our life - but how much syndrome is too much?

One time before enterng a rave I chewed my 5th pill. I took my outer longsleeve shirt off after about ten minutes, noticing that I waS getting to hot. I passed out in the bathroom about three minutes later. I remember waking up on the floor and not knowing where I was but I thought I was possitive that I was going to die. I was hearing voices and hallucinating and was drenched in sweat. I pulled out my cell phone and tryed calling someone I knew to come help me but I did'nt rcognize anyone on my list. My good friend than called my while this was going on who was supposed to meet me at this place, but I did'nt know who he was at the time, I just kept trying to act like it was cool where I was and kept saying uhuh. I thought that I was going to be like this forever. I finally got to my feet and walked around but I was realy scared that I was retarted because I could'nt tie my shoe or act normal. A couple minutes later I puked and everyone was acting weird toward me and avoiding to talk to me, except my friends who I could tell were really scared for me because I never do this, I have for sure the highest tollerance out of all of them.I don't know if I kind of O.D. or just overheated. I used to roll alot but this had been the first time I had rolled in over a year.

Well I suppose Serotonin Syndrome starts when you stop enjoying it. You could also argue it starts when you start getting in serious medical harm. When you start getting muscle stiffness, bad hyperthermia (38.5ºC), servere hyper-reflexia, and seizure like events (clonus/myoclonus.

Can you get seratonin syndrome just from pills?
yes and no. If you "OD" on MDMA, you get all the effects of serotonin syndrome; but you get others because of the other effects of MDMA.

Gotta be careful when you use 5HTP aswell!

Only use 50-100mg depending on your weight and metabolism.

Space it out roughly 8 hours before and after rolling, never take just before, during or straight after using MDxx.

I got mild serotonin syndrome once after taking 200mg (100mg + 100mg one hour later) and drinking alcohol. The effects came on about 2 hours later and included a very different headache, nausea, dizzyness, blacking out for several seconds. Luckily it only lasted for 15mins and I was drinking water whilst it was happening. This seemed to help and within 20minutes I was back dancing my arse off for the final set :P

Besides MDMA, Alcohol & 5-HTP, were you taking any other drugs?

You shouldn't need to pre-load with 5-HTP if you use MDMA in moderation. This is useless, and only encourages syndrome.

As for post-loading with 5-HTP, I don't see how this can significantly increase the chances of Serotonin Syndrome, as the effects from MDMA have warn off by this stage, and will be minimal.

I was watching this documentary yesterday called "If Drugs Were Legal" and they showed this girl overdosing on E. Her pupils were growing & shrinking really fast right before she passed out. Could that actually happen or were they just adding ffor effect?

I didn't take any other drugs, just alcohol and 5-HTP combined. It was a dumb thing in hindsight and I was partly experimenting to see if anything would happen.

Btw, I never pre-load with 5-HTP but some people do.

I have only once gone a but crazy on ecstacy, i am usually very conservative. But it was new years eve and the pills were low quality so i took six over the course of nine hours, three snorted. At one point i experienced uncontrollable shaking soon after snorting which lasted about 20 minutes. The high felt subdued at this point, but then came back full swing after...is this mild seratonin syndrome? I can't recall any other symptoms...

like goodgirl said, some of it is psychological. the most important thing is to stay calm (don't panic) and try to relax yourself with slow, deep breaths. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TELL WHOEVER YOU ARE WITH. if you begin to feel like it's becoming out of your control then calling an ambulence is a must...it would be pretty stupid to risk death or a coma because you didn't want to ruin someone else's good time.

How was it they managed to film someon in this state? Did they have a film crew hanging around the first aid tent?

I disagree. you're thinkinga bout a panic attack, which is "psychological" in some sense...

An overdose is definitely NOT psychological. It's possible for high doses of mdma to trigger panic attacks, but if someone is throwing up and having trouble walking then its definitely time to get help.

What was shaking? Everything, or just your legs? A lot of people get leg shaking on MDMA...
