Shroom Season 2008

Went for a big hunt last weekend and found 1 little mushroom. Oh well. It was nice to get out into the bush anyway.

I'm praying for rain, I'm praying for tidal waves, I want to see the ground give way, want to see it replaced my magical fungus. Mum's gunna grow me some fungus. Gunna grow it right nowww.

Had a few successful outings in old Adelaide recently, this year has been my first out picking, I feel like my childhood self at easter :P

What methods do you guys use to dry your shrooms? I've got a little heater blowing on them in a spare room, seems to be working okay, but god they smell foul!!

Getting them down was a bit of a struggle, but well worth it... a mate boiled up some tea, I figured the heat may have killed a lot of the active ingredient, but it seemed to work well enough, much easier than chowing them down

Fan on them in a room with a heater, or in a big airtight tub with some dessicant (damp-rid).

Found 50 today, but I still concerned about the crop this year. It seems very stunted.

The earth is only wet a few inches down, and things arent really happening like they should at this time of year.

Pray for rain, and lots of it.

Ate three out of a guys backyard (melb.) Way stronger than I anticipated (way more amazing too.) Definitely not the same as the ones I used to be familier with in the Southwest, where people would eat 20 or so.

If it wasn't so fucking cold, winter would be my favourite time of year!

Alot of walking in shit weather to get these and this is only 2% if that of this years finds.

Hows the 3 monsters with the 20c piece?

Maybe the upcoming rain will set off more patches.

Happy hunting

Psilo

Late august i find the biggest ones but have found them in small amounts after rain and frost in september.

My area fruits slighlty later than Melb etc. but the season goes for the entire winter.

First finds around May 20 (melb i have found them in april) but it doesn't get cranking untill mid june and stays that way till late august.

A friend of mine found these growing on the nature strip in his street, and is sure they are edible. They look similar to ones I have eaten before and to the images of the ones above, but I'm not %100 sure as I have never identified any myself, and I don't want to give him the okay to eat them based entirely on my own unsteady opinion. What do they look like to you? Are there any tests that can be done on them?

Sorry, I didn't realise.

Anyway, I told my friend not to eat them regardless because they didn't seem to bruise as would be expected from handling.

So no one's found anything from Brisbane yet? God damn.

Indeed. Let us brisboys/girls know when our mushies are here.
From what i gather, its best to look for them a few days after either really rainy nights, or really cold nights?

Correct me if im wrong.

^ That's what I've heard as well, I'm not a very experienced shroom hunter though. I've looked a couple of times with my friend around the river, but never found anything.

Cubensis are a Spring/Summer mushroom, a "tropical" mushroom you could say. They wont be found in the same conditions as woodlovers. They normally grow from Cow Dung, so around the months of October-January i'd be having a look.

I've given up on Sydney, but i'll be up in the Hunter Valley this weekend, does anyone know if I may strike lucky up there at this time? I was always told that Central Coast was more of a Cubensis town and that spring was the time to look there, but just recently some mates have been talking about the possibility of some patches of Subs up around the mid coast...
