Linklater's SubUrbia was an excellent piece--though hard to watch and not recommended unless you like quality dialogue and have a significant attention span.

I do like Linklater though--Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Scanner Darkly, Waking Life!, Before Sunrise/Sunset--and to a much lesser extent-- school of rock, are all awesome in my opinion. He is a master of vignettes and characters, and meaningful dialogue.

SubUrbia's kinda one of those films you like when you're 14, but then end up cringing at many years along the line. at least for me anyway.

I still love Dazed And Confused, and Before Sunrise/Sunset are two really beautiful films. My two favourites from him without a doubt.

loved A Scanner Darkly, and even more so loved Waking Life, amazzzzing film8o

Also love Being John Malkovitch, been thinking about it a bit recently, not watched it for quite a few years, might have to buy it......

waking life is fucking brilliant. I usually have to watch it in a couple sittings though, as it's kinda dialogue heavy, espescially considering the cool as fuck visuals battering yr senses too.

Oldboy on Ch4 now! :D

Fuck sake I wish I'd known. That film is fucking excellent, so brutal and cool. The fight scene is definitely one of the best in film history, cunt goes all Streets of Rage on those boys! %)

I have just watched Cronenbergs A History of Violence, good looking and a slightly on the surface of it unorthodox movie for the director. However he deals with his regular theme of transformation while the Ed Harris character is a nod to the grotesque. Well worth a watch and not a simple a movie as you initially assume.

I was unaware before watching the picture that it is an oblique addition to the Irish American Crime genre, the mob involved seem to be based on the Irish K&A gang from Philly.
A mate worked in the city of brotherly love as an actor a few years back, he said it was a bigger shithole than Baltimore and the above mentioned mob ran things in his neighbourhood.

My girlfriend watched Martyrs last night. I downloaded after someone on here recommended it. She was sooo shook up about it, said it was well disturbing. And that's saying something cos she's French lol.

I need to watch it now.

I was excited about this but I'm afraid to say I wasn't scared by it one bit, I was bored even.

Sorry! If you want to watch something disturbing, try Irreversible by Gasper Noë, which I've mentioned before. That's chilling.

I watched irreversible a while ago, overall its not particularly disturbing, but individual scenes are pretty bad. The rape scene where the guy is snorting poppers, and that one with the fire extinguisher is pretty fucked up 8o. Gaspar Noe is a pretty eccentric flim maker.

The French make all kinds a wierd films. Another really wierd and fucked up French film is Baise Moi (fuck me) 8).
