Watched 'Children of Men' last night, that is a fucking scary film in the sense that it all seems to be happening now with the world collapsing and the growing police state we are living in. I think in 20 years time the streets/policing will look the same as they do in that film.

A good film (documentary) I watched recently is TT Closer to the edge.
Its about the Isle of Man TT race that is held every year. The races are held on normal roads and and not a racetrack.
There is some fantastic footage in it and they follow one of the riders about, Guy Martin, a real character.
It is very exciting to watch even if you don't like motorbikes and there are several deaths and serious injuries every year.
So if you feel like watching something that you wouldn't usually watch then give this a look.

^ Started watching that. I've been meaning to for ages. The first dude seems like an actor lol. The way it's shot is doing my box in, as I'm obviously not watching it in 3D but it's so clear what parts are meant to be sticking out of the screen, pretty annoying.

I love the Forest fight scene in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Dan.

Agreed :)

Yeah i thought he was some sort of shit actor to start off with

a prophet (Un prophète)

aprophet.jpg

Nineteen year-old Franco-Arab Malik El Djebena is just starting his six year prison sentence in Brécourt. Although he has spent the better part of his life in juvenile detention, this stint is his first in an adult prison. Beyond the division of Corsicans and Muslims in the prison (the Corsicans who with their guard connections rule what happens in the prison), he has no known friends or enemies inside. He is just hoping to serve his time in peace and without incident, despite having no prospects once he's out of jail since he's illiterate and has no support outside of the prison. Due to logistics, the head of Corsican inmates, a sadistic mafioso named César Luciani, co-opts Malik as part of the Corsicans' activities, not only regarding what happens inside the prison, but also continued criminal activities outside. The innocent Malik has no idea what to do but cooperate...

Good choice Watson, top film.

I've watched a few decent films on Film4 this week, Harsh Times, The Machinist, a Congolese film last night which name I forget and even Alfie which was surprisingly good. Like the way it was filmed.

not seen any of them, added to shopping cart (i've downloaded loads of films recently from the old recommend a movie threads from years gone by. most of them your recommendations and you are mostly spot on when it comes to films - i think a prophet was one of yours)

Watched 'Contraband' the other night, not bad at all. Kind of reminded me of one of my favorite films 'Brooklyn's Finest'

Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjcCbSmF_OA

Going to be watching 'Safehouse' later

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IfQY4fNcnw

added to shopping cart as well, even though contraband has marky mark in it :( and safehouse looks like a run of the mill Bourne rip off

Safehouse is so meh it's unbelievable. So much stupid shit in it, the entire continuation of the film is full of holes. Denziel is a bit too past his prime for the role too. Watsons spot on with it being an attempt to be Bournish, it falls flat on it's face. Some of the car chases are OK.

^ i'll save a couple of 0101010101's and cancel the download, i don't even like the bourne films that much so i'm very likely going to not enjoy safehouse

tonight i'm watching Gomorrah

"Gomorra" is a contemporary Neapolitan mob drama that exposes Italy's criminal underbelly by telling five stories of individuals who think they can make their own compact with Camorra, the area's Mafia.

had this for a while but have put off watching it because i thought it was all about vicious and graphic torture bum rape and i've not found the right time for it, but it turns out i was thinking of a film called sodom and gomorrah

edit: seems i'm wrong again it was '120 Days Of Sodom' either way, say no to bum rape

Hmm, Gomorra looks intriguing, I think I'll purchase that too.

I watched 'The Raid : Redemption' last night, or about 80% of it, but kept blacking out towards the end, then woke up and found that my trousers were all torn to shit. I'm not sure if that's a recommendation or not.

Contraband was worth a watch I'd say. It's nothing on Brooklyn's Finest I can't stress how much I love that movie.

I like marky marky, purely cos he was top boy in Boogie Nights, another one of the greats.

I really want to go to the cinema this weekend. I'm sensing a ketamine adventure to see The Dark Knight Rises is on the agenda. Ted and The Borne Legecy are also on the list of films to see.

Gomorra is really good. A similar calibre to un prophet. It really aims to show you the story they are showing properly, and gives you a proper insight into just how fucked they are with the Mafia in Southern Italy. It permeates every area of society. It also lets you see parts of Italy we mostly never get to see, like their versions of 60s estates, which are even worse than a lot of our estates by the looks of things. I watched it in conjunction with a BBC documentary that was on around the same time (I think they were doing one of their specialist 'seasons'), that really made me understand and put it into perspective:

You're an enterprising individual, i'm sure you can find that :D

All of those "This world" programs are really good. So are the BBC Reporter's pieces whenever they're on BBC News/Iplayer.

ahh cool, i remember when they showed city of god they did a similar thing by showing a documentary about the favellas before hand. knowing the history/story of the favellas before watching the film made me appreciate it a lot more.

i've found the doc on pootube, super easy! i'll give that a watch beforehand. cheers MSB

if anyone else wants a link and is too retarded to use google, pm me :)
