You choose high, medium or low quality at the start, it tells you it needs 3Mbps for High.

I believe it's capable of delivering HD, as they label certain items HD in their library. Can't find any info to say if that's 720p or 1080p. My TV should tell me next time I load one up though.

Looks good on my 42" plasma, at least DVD quality.

Hmm interesting. Thanks Knock. I'll probably rejoin @ some point. Still got about 8 pages of tv programs and films recorded onto my virgin + box to catch up on first. Used to be too wasted to watch anything, but gradually my sobriety is increasing, i can watch at least one program per evening now before I start nodding out lol.

Bit of a strange one to get a nationwide re-release. It's the sort of thing you'd expect one small independent cinema (there's one round here that you can booze in %)) to decide to show.

Fucking hope it's not a remake.

erm, yeah, so umm ... I think what I actually saw was the trailer for 'Argo' ... I noticed an AD for it in the Grauniad yesterday and then it clicked. I must've seen the AD on telly at least 4 times and yet still thought it was Fargo tho' 8)

Think I might have just had my first senior moment or summat, or maybe I'm just going bloody deaf (and blind) :o

[It actually looks alright too, I liked The Town, and I don't mind Affleck, and Cranston & Goodman are obv decent. It'll probably be semi-watchable generic action tat ... 8.4% on IMDB]

4 posts in a row?! edit/delete post function mofo

I never got round to reading Dead Babies back in the day but I like Martin Amis, didn't know it was made into a film so I'll check that out.

I don't understand the whole streaming thing either tbh, USB pen shoved into the side of the telly and yer away (or xbox hook up, either way) ... I guess it's cool to have a library to choose from on demand so you can watch instantly rather than wait for a dl. What's a script to Netflix or love film, 8 quid a month or something? It's not that much in the scheme of things really

[edit]
Also, Audition is geat. I'm a big fan of Miike's movies. Not heard of the turtles one, but I'll have a hunt around my newsgroups for it

It's like a 5er a month I think, but there's not a great deal of choice. The proper LoveFilm (the one that posts you DVDs) has pretty much everything but the streaming service is very limited, same with UK Netflix. I think it's stupid to pay for it, but then most of the folk I know who have it are also paying about £100 per month for Sky so an extra 5er to have a load of films on demand seems like fuck all. I watch everything on my laptop, if I really wanted to I could hook it up to the telly or (probably) wireless to my Xbox but I can't be fucked.

It's quite rare that there will be a load of people in my house (I basically live in other people's houses almost ever weekend lol) where watching stuff on the laptop becomes impractical. Even then, there's a load of good (but old) DVDs kicking about all over the house.

Sky have just launched a new film on demand service that will have films 12 months earlier than Love Film and Netflix according to the advert I just saw.

For 3 years running I managed to get a rotation of totally free unlimited subscriptions to LoveFilm (3 DVDs at once) .. based on free trials and whatnot between me and my family folk.

I thought their streaming thing was separate actually. My brother uses the streaming service loads but he doesn't really know or understand much about downloading stuff, and he always watches it on a telly.

I mainly watch stuff on my laptop too, but I've got a semi decent telly downstairs that's got a USB slot that pretty much plays most media files, and before that I used an old school xbox hooked up to my pc. I've got about 6 1tb drives full of DVDs so it was kinda handy.

I'd say that for a fiver it's pretty cheap for love film streaming tho, but if the library is pretty limited there'd be no point me rejoining. Such is the luxury of having the ability to DL shows the following day that they've been shown on Yank TV

I used to have the LoveFilm DVD thing and thought it was good value for money but you'd never know what DVDs you were getting next as they picked them off your list depending on what was available at the time. They had everything and if they didn't have it you could request it and they'd get it in stock.

Shame, barely 5 minutes in and I've seen boobs as he's fucking a prozzie!
i loved this film...wasn't much of a plot, but very interesting.. lots of questions raised in the head. "it's not bcause we're bad people it's because we're from a bad place" or words to that effect. interesting..love fassbender. hunger's good too. saw some art by steve mcqueen, he'd made a sheet of stamps for every soldier killed in iraq. need to start watching films and the like. would love to do a home based rehab sort of thing. just left alone with no money , no responsoibilities. (well, perhaps my debit card no. so i could shop online, no work, and just get things how they should be for when i come out of my home rehab. i'll even have a psychh round for a cup of tea here and there. actually would be cheaper... sign off work for a few weeks with the doc and just do it!!! chatting shit, well off topic, need to get the time to watch a good film

I'll be cancelling lovefilm before the 30 day free trial ends, the range of titles available for streaming is indeed poor. I could go for a package that includes DVDs but why would I do that when it's quicker to download? The only possible advantage their system has is convenience, and waiting for a disc is not convenience.

Also their software is terrible.

Plus you could end up doing what I did. Paying them a 5er a month, every month, for 6 months (only stopping because I changed my bank & the old one cancelled my direct debits) while only ever getting 1 DVD & being too lazy to ever post it back.

Product Description
James Nesbitt stars in this docu-drama looking at the infamous events which took place in Derry on 30 January 1972. The film traces what happened when British soldiers started using live rounds on the civilians assembled by MP Ivan Cooper as part of a civil rights protest march. The violence resulted in 13 dead, 14 wounded, and proved to be a major turning point in the history of the modern Irish troubles.

The following gets a special mention as it's one of my favourite films of all time.

Gummo by Harmony Korine

The location and characters are amazing, I also love the sheer randomness of it all.

There's also a burzum song in this movie . At 41:26 , "Rundgang um die transzendalen säulen der singularität" is playing in the background

A French film, watched it in the cinema in Paris in July, story of this kid from the banlieu who just got released from prison and gets a job to assist this wealthy old guy who lost use of his legs. The whole point of the film is the two main characters come from complete opposite backgrounds and it's quite nice how an unlikely friendship develops between the two. I just downloaded it now, going to rewatch it in a minute.
