White Lightnin(2009) by Dominic Murphy

It's about Jesco White, the son of a tap dancer, who loves huffing gas and getting high. The scene where the biker guy injects him with meth is awesome, I really loved this film, I love bluegrass and the setting is just great.

I wasn't aware that existed. I've seen the documentary about that family, but I can't remember the name of it.

Hank 3 wrote a tune about them, it's quality - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpEDvVnlGsM

Has anyone mentioned The Dictator ? I know it's been out a while, but i first saw it the other night. Side splittingly funny stuff from Sacha Baron Cohen. His olympic race where he starts shooting the other contestants and stewards is hilarious, as was the "ebony and ivory" scene. Many more great moments too.

I love settling down to watch a film, not expecting too much, and then finding out that you've got a cracker.

He actually played it when I went to see him live in July, it's by far one of his best tunes, I was really hoping they would play it. I went completely mental when it started, I was off me tits on ethylphenidate and etizolam, great night that was.

By the way I think the documentary is called "The Great Whites of West Virginia", I love the scene at the beginning with the woman crushing oxy pills and snorting them at the hospital.

Shame, barely 5 minutes in and I've seen boobs as he's fucking a prozzie!

Steve McQueen's second feature of sex-addiction, self-harm and cheap thrills in New York is fluid, rigorous, serious cinema

^^ huge knob aswell, I saw that at the cinema. The girl who plays his sister (the chick from Drive) is fucking yum too

Yeah I saw Shame at the cinema too! Good film, yes, no comment on his knob though.

Watched this last night:

It's absolutely stunning visually. So many stills from the film would make excellent posters for sci-fi nerds. But the pace is so slow it ruined it for me. Reminded me a bit of Solaris.

^ I'm downloading it now, I haven't watched Solaris.

Reading the wiki about, seems similar to Pandorum, which I really enjoyed, the creatures are cool very similar to those in the game Rage.

Just checked there. It's called The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia

Well worth a watch for anyone that hasn't seen it.

Just signed up for Love Film streaming, 30 day free trial. The interface (on the PS3 anyway) is absolutely shit. Who the fuck came up with it? I've plugged a proper keyboard (a Sony PlayStation keyboard no less) and it won't let me type anything in searches! I can use the fucking cursor keys to move about and press Enter to select but the cunting alphabet keys do nothing! Incredibly shite. Also in the TV section as you scroll through it shows every single episode in the list so you have to page through hundreds of Buffy episodes to get to the next programme. Brain dead.

Anyway, the streaming works well, and I just watched Bronson, which I thought was excellent.

It's a Refn film.

I'm still pissed off about how shit the new total recall film is, it made me hate society even more than I previously did. I can't find anything good to watch!

Haven't seen it yet, but I love Wes, and if you like him, it's meant to be ace. So if you're looking for summat to watch, check out Moonrise Kingdom

You actually invested a few hours in seeing an unnecessary remake of an absolute classic and expected to be impressed? Re-evaluate your viewing habits, y0, you must like wasting hours.

Videodrome is apparently being remade. I don't like being miserable, so I wont be watching any substandard remake

Moonrise Kingdom, reminded me I have a copy of Fucking Åmål which I will rewatch. I will have a look for that though.

I couldn't resist having a look at total recall anyway since I'm really into PKD's writing, even though I knew it would be terribad. It was like watching a really long drawn out car advert, theres about 4 lines of dialogue and the worst actors ever. Bill Nighy is it in though for some reason!?

Fucking Amal was ace from what I remember of it ... think I watched it around the same time I watched All About My Mother, Almodovars flick, and I think that beat it to whatever the fuck award it was up for at the Berlin Film awards in 1999ish. I won tickets to attend those awards via Empire film magazine, which is the only reason I can remember it tbh.

The Amal director did Lilya 4-Ever which is also an ace flick, despite being pretty bleak.

What's the quality of the picture like if you're playing their films on a large screen ? When i was a member it wasnt great even through their player at its original size on a 19" monitor.

You choose high, medium or low quality at the start, it tells you it needs 3Mbps for High.

I believe it's capable of delivering HD, as they label certain items HD in their library. Can't find any info to say if that's 720p or 1080p. My TV should tell me next time I load one up though.

Looks good on my 42" plasma, at least DVD quality.
