Recommend another good movie per post

When it's after midnight in New York City, you don't have to look for love, laughter and trouble. They'll all find you!

Someone else recommended this but I watched it and enjoyed so thought I'd recommend again. A strange but enjoyable film.

Yeah, I know. I wouldn't have even known it was one of his if I didn't read it somewhere first.

Indeed. Did you find that film quite eerie? I kept expecting something frightening or shocking to happen.

After enjoying Spirited Away I've added a few more animated films from the same director to my lovefilm list. They all score really highly on lovefilm.

Yeah, it does give the impression that something nasty is about to happen. When in fact, it's just one disaster after another. You sort of get agitated with him being stuck in that particular situation and egg him on. It's predictable in the sense that you know something's gonna go wrong. But you just don't know how he's gonna get out of it. Gripping and amusing.

Only seen Spirited Away, but Howl's Moving Castle is next on my list.

Howl's Moving Castle is excellent but then all of Miyazaki's films are somewhere between brilliant and near-perfect so hard to find a shoddy one really. Princess Mononoke is another one that stands out especially. Must track down his newest one - looks rather sexy as far as animation goes. Not in the hentai sense though.

Also recommend Grave of the Fireflies by Miyazake's mentor of sorts. Bit of a heart-wrencher about a brother and sister orphaned by the Hiroshima bomb. If it doesn't moisten your lids you're a harder man than I - excellent film :)

Grave of the fireflies is great.
Not the biggest of financial successes though due to content.Pretty much the opposite of make-you-all-warm-and-fuzzy-inside Disney stuff.
I cried and I only watched it a year ago.It would have been a life altering experience if I'd seen it in say 1990.14 year old me would have been damaged.

Watch it and WHEN THE WIND BLOWS back to back.

Fuck it watch this as well for MAXIMUM damage:

Do not watch on psyches or stoned unless you want to feel VERY wrong.

Added those too. :)

hahaha lol.
It would be just great if you got all 3 on a Saturday morning and watched them back to back!
Pain!
Suffering!
Misery!
RADIATION!
I imagine getting someone to watch any or all of these 3 on a severe comedown would prove to be the most painful day of their life:D

I look forward to it. ;)

I have Woody Allens 'Husbands & Wives' to watch tonight. Seen it?

Bloody hell that would be night in and a half 8o8(8o

Threads gave me nightmares for years as it was, then I was taken to the cinema to see When The Wind Blows (cos it's a nice film by the nice man who mad the nice Snowman film) which deepened the damage. If I'd seen GotF when it came out too I'd still be in me bunker now I think :D

You ARE in a bunker!A special Welsh bunker filled with drugs, squalor and a pc!
Its all the fault of these 3 films!I think you should sue the lot of them;)

Don't like Woody Allen films.Bore me to death...and the allegedly "funny, earlier ones" aren't funny.
Out of all the supposed geniuses of film he is the one I most consider a non-genius.

Mostly agree with you on Wody Allen - he just makes the same not-very-funny film over and over again and it never gets any closer to being funny or even remotely good in any way. Do like a couple of his earlier ones but he's been making the same film annually for the last 30 years and still not got it right :\

Watch it and WHEN THE WIND BLOWS back to back.

Ooh, When The Wind Blows. That takes me back. I only have vague memories of it as I watched it when I was quite young. In fact, I think I tried to blot out some of it. =D

I have Woody Allens 'Husbands & Wives' to watch tonight. Seen it?

Can't say I've ever been able to get into Allen films. The only one I ever liked was Mighty Aphrodite. And I think that was largely because Miro Sorvino played a hooker in it. =D

^I'm the same with Woody Allen movies, but I deeply love Mighty Aphrodite. I really must watch it again soon.
