Recommend another good movie per post

We have the Vue here, I hate it and refuse to go, same with Odeon and other chains. Total snob that I am but they just don't cut it. They show films I'm mostly not interested in, are overpriced and full of annoying kids / teenagers.

No kids or teenagers at the indie cinemas round here, cheap tickets, good bar and can drink in the screen. Perfect!

Aye Vue is a bit crap as cinemas go, never been there sober as it's really not my sort of place but it was the hang-out of choice at college. You'd think film students would have a bit more taste in films ;) Seen Silent Hill there and Ring 2 when they came out, that was alright like but I'm funny with films so don't really go see much there unless I'm forced to.

Hellboy looks bloody awful but haven't seen it and tried to watch Pans Labyrinth several times and have had to turn it off 30 minutes in, just cannot get into it despite everyone telling me it's magic. Maybe just tried watching it at the wrong times.

Haha, agreed.

Im gonna try and watch it stoned. That way I wont have the energy to get up and change the channel.

I recently watched "Notorious" the biopic dramatisation of biggie smalls' life. It was really terrible.

I also recently watched "The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Enigma_of_Kaspar_Hauser directed by Werner Herzog and absolutely loved it. I love his penchant for casting really odd people, it's so refreshing and more human than any highly polished hollywood turd.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0470705/ "Bug" is another one I enjoyed recently, a delightful tale of paranoid delusions of persecution of the highest degree.

I have to read this whole thread now, I have such a hard time finding decent films to watch.

I liked Bug until the end when the dvd started fucking with me. So I stopped it and then spent a few minutes thinking about what I had seen and how the writer had thought "that folie a deux thing looks good lets see what I can cook up here" and then I came to the conclusion that it had jumped the shark at some point and when I finally got it to play to the end I didn't like it anymore.
I want to discuss the plot here but obviously spoilers would ensue.
Oh well, its good up to a point when it becomes overwrought melodrama and all believability went out the window for me.But Ashley Judd is good.

try rottentomatoes or imdb for film scores/reviews I don't really 'rate' lovefilm's

I find it's pretty much spot on most of the time. Out of all the films I've rented from there I've seen many great ones and only a handful of bads and I tend to go with there ratings and reviews, but not always.

I find IMDB to be terrible, not just for scores but in general. The reviews are mostly badly written too.

I was just about to comment on how great sushi is for some reason. Really had to stop myself. I have no idea why.

Uh anyway, what I meant to say was that IMDB is pretty great really. Like reading the trivia and goofs sections and it's the first place I go to check up on a film I've just watched.

Time for bed I think...

I really dislike rottentomatoes. I used to use it a lot back in the day, but rarely use it at all now.

Yeah, the reviews are pretty dire tbh. But then, I never read reviews anymore anyway. I don't like to have any preconceptions about a film before seeing it. I do look at ratings before going to the cinema though. And I usually check imdb for that very purpose.

Oh yeah, me too. I'm such a geek when it comes to trivia and whatnot. I love it. And I'm a bit of a freak in regards to goofs. I always seem to spot loads of them too, particularly when stoned. I tend to get overly excited about it. =D

Bug gets a terrible review on lovefilm. Two stars. :\

Who pays any attention to reviews anyway, they only serve to give you preconceptions about the film. Reading them afterwards offers more insight into the reviewer than the film.

Ratings on sites like IMDB are badly skewed by the amount of people who have shitty popular tastes aswell.

Gonna get slated for this one =D

I watched All The Presidents Men last night, that was a long and rather dull film. Not sure why I stuck with it till the end as I knew the ending anyway. :\

recommending a film before it comes out here but it's guaranteed win

Black Devil Doll

TRAILER *NSFW*

"if the thought of a white chick having relations with a black jive talking devil puppet offends you then don't watch!"

I haven't actually seen this yet, but glanced over a review in the paper this morning. I just watched the trailer and thought it looked pretty damn good. Must get around to watching that sometime methinks. :D

I already mentioned it above, too slow. :p

I'll be seeing it this weekend, looks great, I cannot wait. Everyones ranting and raving about it on forums, best vampire film ever etc. Lovefilm have named it as their film of the year so far. Woohoo!

On some film review show the other day it stated that less than 2% of American films are now made in Hollywood. Apparently mostly made in Mexico because it's cheaper and they get incentives to film there.
