Psy Trance Tune/ Album/ Discussion part II

^I've been listening to Psychedelic Melodica, this years Cosmosis album, and I must say, it is unbelievably average IMO. Mr Baggins made some comment regarding the lack of melody's in psytrance (hmm, wtf?), I guess that was the idea behind the album. The CD notes go to great length, with Bill describing how he got the idea for the song, what he's trying to convey, interesting musical and production techniques used; but for all that, its a really plain and standard album. Every sound is at full volume; playing loud is intensely jarring, plus I suspect ole Bill is getting some high frequency deafness, because this album is SIZZLING- i haven;t heard a release with such crisp shattering hi freaks- I suspect a multi-band comp squashed the highs ridiculously. Overall, though, the production, at least the kick and bass sounds are great; slightly dirty and dark, without being overtyly so. And for a melodic album; its not that melodic, it follows on from where Trancendance left off really.

However, the Martian Blues track is damn cool, I thought I was over guitar in psy, but this is a bit different.

Still, this year I've been loving the suomi; I highly recommend E vs Y (Eraser versus Yojika (sp?)- really groovy, funky tunes in the style of Salakavla. I also reccommend Spyge H- all his songs are available for free download (mp3) on the web (legit) and he uses Reason, like a true genius. He released a promo this year, and it is awesome suomi, nicely produced and melodic, and very psychedelic. http://www.mikseri.net/artists/spygeh.24879.php

There's a track on that album called Journey Of The Soul which is nearly flawless, in my opinion...It is pure organic-psychedelia. Squelches, grumbles and alien language.

^I dunno, I just feel like I've heard it before (not the tune your mentioning specifically just the album)...The Dance of the Cosmic Serpent has a nice melody and all, but nothing hair raising or shiver inducing. Bah, psytrance is starting to irritate me. Go dub

Though Kindzazda (I have no idea how to spell his name) Waves From Inner Space is a riproaring darkpsy album; everysong sounds basically the same, but with truly wonderful production. Good album to play at full bore, just not actually listen to it...

...And what do we all think of Cosma? The two albums he released before his death, Simplicity and Non-Stop, will both be among my Top 5 Psytrance albums. It's absolutely incredible, atmosphere and psychedelic essence he managed to grab make his own.

Coming from a Darkwave/Goth background Simplicity was incredibly easy to get into because I think that at its core, it's a very melancholic and existential album.

Good call!

That's a great description of his music too. Such a tragedy that he died so young & didn't get the chance to make more. :( He was streets ahead of most of the other Israeli artists.

I've always wondered if his death was not as accidental as it was planned. Both albums - as well as tracks in general - seem to have this "What's to come after we die?" motif as if he somehow knew he was going to die young.

does anyone of you know cosmosis`s maxi "gift of the gods" from transient records? 1996 or 97, a masterpiece of 303-drenched psy...

cosma's music is awesome. his remix of vibrasphere's 'purple floating' is stunning.

That was one of my favorite tracks that really got me into trance. A blessing to have vibrasphere endish their last two aussie sets with.... Motorbikes and psytrance ftl...:(

Check out the track Moving, his collaboration with Silent Sphere. There's a sample in there that almost perfectly emulates the soothing, maternal voices I've heard during a hit of N20 during an LSD trip.

For me, that track embraces the concept of death. The moving from life to whatever lies beyond.

...And I've just uploaded a sample of the first track since my recent one-year signing to a local label. I'm playing my first DJ set at a big NYE party and I'm pretty fucking amped about that. :)

Willow1, I'm only starting my two year Sound Engineering course next year, so from your perspective how does the production sound? Any suggestions for the mix?

^Production of what? Mix of what? I guess you meant to post a linky poo? Nice on the signing, is it is a dj or producer? I've got a few things on the go, mainly with a net label so I'm in the proess of getting my songs mastered....Also getting a shot with a little aussie prog/minimal/weirdo label, but all these guys are so lazy they don't seem to do anything....

Anyway, post a link. Or some digital thingie enabling ym ears to listen...

...of did you mean your DJ mix? I mean that sounded sweet and all, but you didn't produce it so I'm assuming you mean something else. I'll have to chuck up a bit of stuff I've written recently...

Hehe, whoops. Forgot the link :P www.myspace.com/chemogen

I'm going to start studying at CityVarsity...Same place Protoculture went to, I've spent the last two years there doing a film course...But now it's time for sound. :)

Signed as a producer by the way. Six tracks over a year the label pays to get mastered by Artifakt and some live gigs along the way.

Anyone heard the new Hydraglyph album, Euphonics? Quite a cool idea, has some very distinct pop elements against some fucking hard Psytrance. Almost like the future sound of pop music.
