Do you see what you did there? ;) =D

In the Volleyball why is there one team member with a different coloured shirt?

They are the Libero for the team.

I'm not 100% sure what their purpose is, but I *think* that they aren't meant to cross the line on their side of the court... i.e. they aren't spikers. They are usually smaller players... I'd wrangle up a wikipedia link, but I really can't be bothered ;)

Eugh its so weird watching tennis only 30 seconds after a gripping badminton match

Keep expecting the ball to float

The Libero

In 1998 the libero player was introduced internationally, the term meaning free in Italian is pronounced LEE-beh-ro (rather than lih-BEAR-oh); the NCAA introduced the libero in 2002.[15] The libero is a player specialized in defensive skills: the libero must wear a contrasting jersey color from his or her teammates and cannot block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net height. When the ball is not in play, the libero can replace any back-row player, without prior notice to the officials. This replacement does not count against the substitution limit each team is allowed per set, although the libero may be replaced only by the player whom they replaced. The libero may function as a setter only under certain restrictions. If she/he makes an overhand set, she/he must be standing behind (and not stepping on) the 3-meter line; otherwise, the ball cannot be attacked above the net in front of the 3-meter line. An underhand pass is allowed from any part of the court.

The libero is, generally, the most skilled defensive player on the team. There is also a libero tracking sheet, where the referees or officiating team must keep track of who the libero subs in and out for. There may only be one libero per set (game), although there may be a different libero in the beginning of any new set (game).

So who here thinks a few of those Chinese Gymnasts are NOT 16? That one little one, she looks like she's 13 and there is a new article on Yahoo news that has her LISTED as 13 in an earlier competition this year. And another website had her as 13 but the website was pulled down mysteriously in the last 24 hours hmmmm. And no, I'm not bitter that the US girls got the Silver, silver is an amazing accomplishment and they should be proud!!! But, if the Olympic committee does an investigation and finds out this Chinese girl IS 13 they will be stripped of their gold. However, this is very hard to prove, specially since we're talking China here, China can cover anything it wants. Not sure how this can be proved. Will be interesting.

The age was 14, i wonder why with this Olympics they upped it to 16. In Athens the Americans had a 14 year old on the team. Maybe the younger one's were getting hurt to much and they upped the age. Strange, because divers can be 14.

Anyway. I sure hope the US girls get an all-around gold tonight, that would be spectacular but i think they are very rattled and nervous. I think that's what messed it up for them, two nights ago... their young nerves got the best of them.

I'll be there rooting them on tonight!

A new goal for myself is that IF the 2016 Olympics go to Chicago i am getting my butt there for the Olympics, it's always been a dream of mine to go to a games. I'll have to save a lot of money though, it ain't cheap to go to a games!

Anyone here ever plan on going to the games? Manly, a summer games? I'm not very interested in the Winter Olympics for some reason.

Ok, pods and NoDoz i took are kicking in and I'm getting chatty LOL

I thought the Chinese girls age thing was a given. Everyone knows they're under 16 and no, I don't think they'll get caught.

The Olympic Committee probably realized how much of a problem it is to put 14 year old girls under that much pressure along with the fact that their bodies aren't developed enough to do that level of gymnastics without hurting them. Diving is a relatively low-pressure sport I think so it's not as much of a risk.

I use to get a ton of Olympic-related merch as my Aunt worked for the Olympic Comitee when I was younger. It was pretty pimp.

Holly Crap! He's lucky it didn't brake his neck. It looks like he had a small seizure while he was laying on the floor.

Boy they sure covered him up quick.. well not covered but the view to him was blocked fast.

I hope he's ok.. anyone know? Poor guy. It always hurts my heart when an athlete gets hurt.

My favorite event is diving. I think I like springboard a little more than platform, but both are awesome. Anyone else like that?

I watched the 10m synchronized diving., and was surprisingly drawn in. It was hard to tell when there was a good dive, until you saw one in real time. The little chinese girls were almost like robots, and the guys were pretty damn good too.

Although, I still hate the announcers we get on NBC. All US athletes are great, and everyone else is just OK at best :\

In the 10m, one of the Canadian girls (definately the heaviest of all competitors) entered the water not vertically, and made some splash. The announcer's exact words: "Oh no, it's a tidal wave."

After watching the women's single all-around finals last night I'm convinced the Chinese are cheating. Even the commentators commented on how screwy the judges were scoring the Chinese.

agreed. thus far, her ass has pretty much been my favorite part of the olympics.

a close second would be that guy who was weight lifting, had the barbell above his head, and then POP! elbow dislocates.
it was freaking brutal.
