Olympics - Beijing 2008

I saw two girls on the first night of gymnastics fall: one on her back, and one on her face. i promptly PMed tambourine-man since he's just as much as a sadist as i am, apparently. :D

I hate when the gymnasts fall because they can get hurt so badly. The men's gymnastics was fun last night. After America lost their two golden boys no one thought the Americans would even medal but they came away with the bronze!!! Better than nothing considering they weren't expected to even come close.

The men don't seem to fall as much as the girls and i think there is a few reasons for that. One, the girls are a LOT younger than the men. The girls are usually around 16, the men in their early 20's and sometimes older. Now at 16 your brain isn't fully developed yet, and scientist say even some hand and eye coordination isn't even fully developed at 16. I think that has something to do with that. I always thought that female gymnasts should be a little older for the Olympics but the coaches want those young girls because their so durable, flexible.

Also another reason they may fall more than the men is because a 16 year old girl isn't as confident as a 24 year old man (in most cases-- their is always exceptions to that!). And also a 16 year old is a lot more self-conscious than a 24 year old man and i think that affects their over all performance. But, i could be way off on that. This is just my opinion on it. I was 12 when i was training at an Olympic academy and that's the age they want a girl at to start training for the Olympics. It was damn hard work. Obviously, i didn't make it. Like i said before-- to many injuries. But, i often wonder "What if"... What if i hadn't been injured and my heart would have been more into it. But, no sense in doing the "What ifs"

The woman's gymnastics is going to be super tense tonight. China is going to give America a run for it's money. I think it's going to be a barn-burner, people will be on the edge of their seats on this one, i know i will. I just hope no one gets hurt, that's always my biggest fear. I'd never want to see any of the Olympians hurts.

Good luck girls!!!!

Anyone see last nights male gymnastics? U.S, Germany, Japan and China, competing for the top three slots. Good for U.S. getting in for the bronze, Germany just was not up to par to beat the U.S for that. Excited for Japan's second place and thrilled for China's gold. China in particular, as would be suggested by their acquisition of the gold, was PHENOMENAL. Their male gymnasts on the uneven bars was the most astounding thing I have ever seen. I was cheering and clapping for them, I was so happy. It was great seeing them all get their medals too.

Really though, the talent displayed by all the winning countries in male gymnastics was just out of this world.

^ No, I wanted Germany to win. I just honestly don't think it should a sport.

lol, thats probably true. It takes a lot of skill obviously but it's not quite like the other sports the Olympics has to offer.

^ haha, yes! I would go, "oooohhh wow!" and then that stupid woman would say, "thats gonna cost her some points" in her phony voice. HATE those announcers.

I stayed up until 3am for the gymnastics.. but they didn't bloody start until about 5am and I fell asleep after 10 mins

for the US-watchers...

do any of you think that fucking bob costas is the biggest douche ever? i can't believe he's still around commenting on these sports and athletes. the man is a complete fucking dork.

i watched as much as i could of the mens gymnastics last night....US was ahead slightly and japan was thought to be out of it for a gold or silver. what the hell happened that japan overtook the US? i can see china coming away with gold...the performances on the rings and parallel bars were phenomenal.

Yes the China took the gold in mends Gynmastics. America was ahead for like 10 minutes lol. US took the bronze.

As for Bob Costas, he doesn't really bother me, seems like he's been around forever though.

another one for the drinking game,

when the commentator says:

'I'm sure it will reflect in the score'

I agree, synchronised diving is a croc... I'm just happy the aussies got the silver in the 10m platform :)

I'm unsure about canoeing being in the olympics as well... just doesn't seem right for some reason

I think synchronized diving was the dumbest event I've ever watched.
i just watched the chinese women in that event take the gold. they were deserving winners and i really enjoyed watching it.
