Mushy season opener 2006

must have been a big one :D
just wondering... how often should mushrooms be consumed?
ive had 3 trips over the past month, i was wondering if this is too much- i suppose it depends on myself tho i guess

^^
To work it out exactly, you need to take your current age (say 21)
multiplied by the amount of years you expect to live (say 75)
Divide this number by how many tabs of acid you have taken in the last year (say 15)
Take the square root of this figure (=roughly 10.25)
Take this number and add the total amount of friends you have divided by how many of them are a little crazy (say 100 / 45 = 2.2) so (12.45)
this is how many grams of mushrooms you can consume safely each month, unless its a leap year...

wow chucky! That is almost as revolutionary as E=mC^2 if you ask me. Im recomending you for a nobel prize

Mushrooms really mess with my head if I have too many trips in a short space of time. I wouldn't take them anymore than once a week.

i wouldn't take them any more than once every few months, maybe even less frequent than that. each to their own tho.

I was thinking along those lines, but didn't want to sound like a pussy ;)

Yeah i agree the bare minimum should be a week, but consuming mushrooms so frequently leads to a diminished experience and is not as beneficial. Once every few months allows you to have a glowing and enjoyable experience, one that you can take alot away from.

well i had mushies for the first time the other night. but they did nothing!

there was 2 other people that had em too, and they were loving it. we made a tea out of em. put 10 in a cup and poured hot water in it, stirred it up and all that, the water turned black/ dark blue. i drank half the water over bout an hour, and the other 2 drank the rest. then i ate 5 of the mushies that were sitting in the bottom of the cup. and nothing happened.. wat the hell is wrong with me?????! has this happened to anyone else? is it just a first time thing?

It might just take you a little more, the omlets they serve in Bali have about 50 of them in there. Thats a pretty severe trip for the first time.

Depending on the mushrooms I'd say you'd need 5-10 for yourself. 20 nice ones for 3 people should be fine. Thats just my opinion, I tend to spin right out if I take too much.

Well I decided to post a few shots a took today. I got a bit sick of the whole "mushroom hunting thread" after a 2 or 3 year postarama. Anyway here a few photo's, I suppose some people out there may find them informative.

note: there are some really 'chunky' mushrooms in a few of the shots, I attribute this to a very woody, nutrient rich substrate and exposure to the elements. The longer stemmed, flat toped mushrooms in the other shots are usually found in covered areas such as under shrubs or native grasses.
I do however believe both phenotypes represent P. Sub.'s

hdang: also I would avoid hot water if you want to get the most from your mushrooms. If sufficiently hot the alkaloids in the mushrooms can be broken down. Hence reducing the strength. Also I have found some people who only get minimal effects from psychoactive mushrooms. Once guy I know had to eat around one ounce before he was really tripping..... and that was one ounce of dried subs. The same batch had others tripping from about 2-3 grams.
He didn't eat the lot at once, that would have been downright stupid. When they didn't effect him (after an hour or so) he took more.... then more..... then more.
I consider this to be EXTREMELY rare and not something that you should conclude after one attempt at a small dose. Try again before increasing the dosage.

"deano" those Bali Mushys arnt as strong as the P.Subs found here in Aus !

But there good all the same, Had quite a few Shroom shakes whilst in Bali recently !

As for Building up a tolerance to Mushys, i also agree that they should be only consumed on a Monthly basis !

Saturday Morning Me and my fellow shroomerz went for a hunt, 1 hour of searching, we finally stumbled on a patch ! 360 Mushy's were aquired !

Saturday arvo i consumed 15~20 and had a real good trip, very cool OEV's were expierienced ! Also i went throug a stage of pure, Uncontrollable thinking...(madness) witch freaked me out, although this was handelable, i didnt really like it !

Over this weekend i consumed 50 P.subs ( fresh ) and out of those 60, 30 of them were whipped up into a mushy shake 6 hours ago, And No affect was felt whatsoeva !

So i guess i need a break ! espisially seen as tho last weekend was also spent trippin ballz !

The mushrooms I saw used in Thailand were actually very big. The shake I had tasted pretty bad but it did the trick. A local told me that they actually put other stuff in the shake (as well as shrooms) to make you 'feel funny'. He didn't say what exactly but he implied pharmacuticals. Who knows though.

mongman: Nice pics. There certainly are some very 'chunky' mushrooms in the photos. I have only ever seen a few like that. Most of the ones I find are fairly delicate looking.

Sometimes I go on little mushroom binges and by the third time within a week I'm not really enjoying them as much and the trips can be almost identical to the others unless you are doing something completely different. Add to that the fact that you have to eat a lot more to get the effects and so I try not to go more than once a week. The longer you leave between trips the better the trips seem to be. A month is a good break I feel.

hdang: From what you have said it sounds like you took a pretty small dose. Remeber that things like alcohol can dull the effects as well. Just work your way up until you find your required dosage. Don't rush it or the mushrooms will kick your arse!

Keep the photos coming. I love my mushroom porn. :D

Amazing.. Just spent hours on a local field I call the "gold mine"... it's been raining, flooding even, the ground is still wet, and I could not find one single mushroom. Cubensis normally grow all over this field after rain.

Is it just not the season?

Location: SE QLD

Went for a hunt last Monday (June 27) to the Blue Mountains. It had been raining pretty damn good for the last 3 days or more. I was thinking the mushrooms would be spawning out of control with all this rain. I checked all the patches I'd found awesome harvests at 2 yrs ago and a few new ones too but was very dissapointed... Granted the wood chip in most of these places had degraded a lot since 2yrs ago but still with all this rain and the coldness why such a poor harvest? It was still raining the day I went and I was wondering is it possible it was too saturated with water to be spawing mushrooms???

Anyway all in all I managed to get roughly a handfull from 3 different places. Mostly pinheads. Shit eh... very draining on the eyesight and concentration scouring the ground floor for tiny munchies for hours... oh well all in all I got a mild trip. So no complains there.

I noticed similar to my hunting experiences of 2 yrs ago. There were some very, very similar look alike mushrooms in the same habitat. One place where I picked most of them from there were look alike shrooms maybe 30cm or half a metre away. The look alikes are (if my shady memory serves me correctly) I think called Strophora. The Subaeruginosa's the caps and stems where the same thickness and size as these. The lookalikes cap was a more reddish colour than the subs. Both the subs and those lookalikes have white stems but when I examined the lookalike there were some tiny rusty orange like hairs and colouring near the base of the stem which subs don't have. Otherwise looked almost identical. Of course the subs all turned blue after a 20min/half hour after being picked. Also noticed something I never realised before. You know how subs have that distinct fungi smell? (You know what I'm talking about if you've ever filled a bag of them ;).) Well anyway I found that subs have a different smell to those lookalikes (I think called Strophora) with the more reddish caps. The subs have a stronger very distinct 'fungi smell'. The reddish cap lookalikes when put up to the nose smell much more like dirt.

Also saw those look alike Galerina's but they were much easier to tell apart. The cap is a lighter more yellow colour, the stems are thinner. And the gills are (I think) more tighly spaced together. The cap and stem is especially fragile. Much, much weaker and easier to break when compared with Subaeruginosa's or the reddish cap lookalikes (I think is Strophora's). Give it a flick and it falls apart.

No pics this time... sorry wasn't really a photo worthy harvest.

Happy hunting

ps. please read a good itentification book to know how to tell different species apart B 4 doing any hunting.

I LOVE THE BLUE MOUNTAINS. I have found 1500 mushrooms. Main variety I have had luck with is blue meanies and of course goldies. But still find a lot of subs and the rare wavey tops as well. Personally eaten about 500 shrooms all season and 300 of them in just the first 2 weeks leading to the winter solstice. Been a great season and well...too fried to pick anymore (yep they are still growing but mainly only the meanies at this late stage). All I can say is, ppl: don't overdo it!

Peace Out

I live in that area and I can assure you that you will not be finding any mushrooms in this area (cubes mabey but I don't like your chances) until spring comes around and the weather heats up, wait till spring and summer and lets hope that there is lots and lots of rain because the last few seasons have not been as good as the late 90's and the start of 2000.

The mushies you will be looking for will be Psilocybe Cubensis (Cubes, gold tops) and Panaeolus Cyanescens (Blue Meanies) none other and both love cow shit.

Both types of mushies are found in tropical climates, Cubes are a bit more cold resistant than the blue meanies which can not stand cold weather at all thats why you don't find many of them down south if any at all.

nice little hunt on the weekend.

Thought I would post this picture. It's so cute!!
