Mushy season opener 2006

Here is a close up pic for you. Although it isn't very clear you can see that the gills are pretty much the same as subs, giving a purple spore print aswell.

Also todays hunt was a success found some sub pins, which i shall return on the weekend to pick, also handfull of moderate sized subs.

They were all found under eucalyptus trees that had lots of old wet bark surrounding them, again eastern suburbs reserve.

Happy Hunting

My mistake, for some stupid reason I was thinking of Psilocybe eucalypta, which would be quite an amazing find for the greater melbourne area. (I'm day two on kicking my caffeine addiction cold turkey, and my brain has quite clearly, turned to mush ;)

Australiana do fall under the family of subaeruginosa, but given Australiana's general higher potency, I know which substrain I'd prefer to find ;) unfortunately, I do tend to come across more subs as opposed to australiana, but that is probabally due to my preference for bush locations - i'd much rather spend a day out on bush missions rather than an 'all too often raped' suburban location.

Thanks for the pics flocks, doing prints on foil is definatley the way to go ;)

are there any other frustrated first timers out there ready to throw in the towel? ive spent weeks out in the rain macedon ranges and ill ive succeeded in is a lot of wet socks, and oh yeah 2 subs.

Focks those mushrooms look a little on the old side :( I'd split them lengthwise and have a look in the stems and gills for bugs/ lavae. While the stray bug GENERALLY doesn't cause any problems, I've seen several people become quite sick after eating mushrooms that looked ok(ish), but were home to a few too many bugs :(

Unless they are perfect specimins, I'd suggest splitting all mushroms lengthwise and do a quick shake/ inspection for bugs - it may be an unnessary step but i'd prefer to get my protein from other sources ;)

FYI two FANTASTIC ways for drying mushrooms when sheets of paper and a fan are not practical.

Ontop on the car dashboard with the demister on :) Naturally you'd want to put something between the mushrooms and the glass so your finds are not easily seen by other drivers, but this method dries out even the wettest subs in about an hour. Perfect for bush hunting missions or when you don't intend to be home for a while.

Central heating vents. Place mushrooms on piece of flywire or other fabric with holes in it. VERY loosly tie flywire up with a piece of string. Remove heating vent grill, lower mushroom bag into duct, tie bag onto grill, replace grill and PRESTO!, super sluth drying method. DON'T turn heating up super high (mushrooms loose potency when exposed to 45C+ temps).
In a few hours the mushrooms will be 'still bendable' dry, ready to descicant drying.

I tend to not care about the bugs.. I havnt had any negitive reactions.. My rule is, pick it unless its mouldy.. I picked a whole heap last year with aqua blue psilocybin psychoactive bugs inside them =D

Just a quick heads up to melbourne hunters.. There are some very very convincing look-alikes to p.subs and the deadly galarina is definatly one of them. I have been caught out several times and have often gone up to a patch of galarinas thinking they were subs until i got up close and inspected..

Heres a pic of a DEADLY TOXIC Galarina

galarina.jpg

First, notice the "anular" ring around the top of the stem, subs dont have this..

Notice the stem itself, Galarina stems are softer and more easily broken but most importantly, they dont turn blue.

Also notice the gill colour in comparison to subs..

Be careful because these mushrooms grow in the same area as subs...

Out and about for a stroll today and happened across some more p. australiana. Probably about 100 or so in the patch. :D

Here are some pics;

Melbourne Eastern Suburbs.
They averaged about 5cm in diameter and 10cm tall.

Shroom dosage

These are the shrooms i got. Pretty sure there subs. I was just wondering how many a 3rd timer 67kg male would need aproximately for a medium 2 heavy dose, They are currently fresh and havent bin weighed yet but theyre around 5 to 15 cm's long

Those look a little more like p. australiana's... could be wrong though

I was wondering how interested everyone would be in a 'magic mushroom grow guide'? I know there are plenty out there but I was thinking of writting one especially for us in Australia, including suppliers and places to buy equipment (obviously I wouldnt include sources for spores!). Firstly I wondering how much interest there would be, and secondly whether the mods would be happy for someone to do something like this? Let me know what people think...

Yeah that sounds like a great idea dude. I have always thought it to be inconvinient to have to drive out woop woop when i could just grow them in my backyard.

^^ Ha Ha no shit,

After 800km's of pointless missioning ( 4 trips to woop woop later ) FINALLY got some rewards ! a whole 6hrs of a plesant trip !

I'll post some pix later on or something of my find !!

Yeah after nearly throwing in the towel the other week after weeks of disapointment, my persistance payed off and i found about 60 or so. Im confident i can find more this time. Like they say, once you find em, they are everywhere.

Me and my mates call that the mushroom madness when you start having dreams about finding mushies and eating them. I'm up north in QLD and start getting the dreams in about sept or oct when our mushie season is starting

Im having mushroom dreams too!! They are calling for me.
Im hunting for the first time but have not found any yet.

yeah, its easy to get soo infatuated with the damn things that they completely take over your life.

Anyone want to start up a mushroom hunters support..... say shroomers anonymous?
;)
