Mmm

Ooh lucky duck!

Had a look in Canberra yesterday. Not much luck at all, found maybe like 20 or so. Not enough rain I don't think. It's starting to get too cold though, first frost is coming I'm thinking we may have missed the season.

Crap, I thought frost was required, as well as wet weather and general fungal conditions? I've not yet had a successful treasure hunt and maybe that's because I've waited too long.

I thought the season was May-August or something? Why would it be over already? It's supposed to be just beginning...?

Went foraging in Eastern suburbs of melbourne today, no love. Most disheartening thing was a general lack of any kind of fungi, much less the beloved subs. It's been raining but it seems to be wet only on the surface, when you dig down under grass or leaf litter it tends to be dry on the ground. The weather is promising though, can't too long now. Was hoping to get some before the Happy Mondays gig scheduled for this friday, was going to microdose on about .1g but happily they've postponed until June so should be plenty around by then!

Yeah man I think I might have as well. I think we've just generally had shitty luck for rain and weather this season. We didn't go too deep, but it was not looking good.

Every time I've gone out there it's just been way too dry man, Canberra's had a rough go of it this year.

Oh yeah and the reason we're worried about the season being over, is it's getting colder and colder. First frost is coming and as laugh pointed out you ain't finding no fungi in frost. Damn this dry land!!

Fuck, so many subs in NSW right now

I know I can't ask for locations but hear me out.

I'm trying to overcome a decade long gambling addiction. The only thing that has helped in that time was a LSD trip. I didn't gamble for 6-months following the experience. I want to revisit psychedelics and shrooms more specifically.

I need to know everything. I've never done shrooms before. Please guys help out a brother.

^ Mate regardless of your circumstances we can't give you specific locations, the rules are for everyone.

If you are prepared to put in the time researching and going out in the field then I can pretty much guarantee you will find some. I found some my first year and I was a 17 year old who was studying full time and had maybe 10-20 hours of reading on the subject under my belt (at most, it was probably less lol). I would walk the dog every night and go shroom hunting. It took me a while before I hit gold and I admit I took a dodgy mushroom or two home to identify because I got too excited and wanted them to be right (which is why spore printing is esential, especially if you are a newbie!) but in the end I got there.

Honestly when you find your first patch it is all smooth sailing from there, once you actually make the effort and see them growing in the environment it is like something clicks and it becomes so much easier, atleast ime. Its like I went a few weeks and hit nothing but soon as I found one patch I was finding them everywhere. Funnily enough after searching all over the area while walking the dog it was actually inside my High School on a lunch break I found my very first patch and it just goes to show they are probably a lot closer than you think.

Put in the effort man, it really isn't difficult.

Ok without giving locations perhaps I should ask more specific questions. I am thinking I would jump on a train with my bike and trek through the Blue Mountains. Which shrooms would I expect to find in this region?

^this, everyone has to put the work in somewhere along the line. You'll feel much more accomplished if you can say you found them all on your own merits. That and I believe that when nature determines you eligible, the mushrooms will show themselves.

You can research climate, location and appearance online and then go picking, getting the guys on Shroomery.org to ID them for you if you're unsure of any. Remember that we don't do ID's on Bluelight.

Forget it. Friend of mine in hospital with shoom poisioning. Had bad reaction and some sort of fit. She is in a mess and needs physio; lost control and movement of right leg. Not worth it.

That's why eating random mushrooms is a bad idea, get them ID'd before eating them.

Dave82, don't bother at the moment, it's been too dry up here. Wait until the first big rain of may, then look in a higher altitude. Please learn how to ID correctly and learn the process of picking as to not destroy any patches you may find, a lot of people up here spend a fair amount of time taking care and preparing these before winter, you'd break some hearts if you ripped up the mycelium.

Wise words, reminds me of the first few finds for me.

Realising that they've been growing around you for years is a bit of a spin out.

Meanwhile found my first for the season this morning, went down well in my breakfast chamomile. Best Sunday for a few weeks. :)

I hope your friend recovers, if you have any friends that decide to go picking in the future, make sure they do their research and shroomery.org does I.D mushrooms for you to avoid such terrible adverse reactions =(
