What movies have changed your opinion on actors for better or worse?

I used to hate nick cage but after I saw him in adaptation, I gained respect for him as an actor.

I also used to hate patrick swazy but after seeing donnie darko, I also gained respect for him.

I never cared for robert deniro much, but after seing ronin, i cant take him seriously anymore. I thought he was horrible in that.

tom cruise - i despised him in most movies until I saw him in the last samurai, and was pleasantly surprised

i still hate nick cage, maybe I should watch him adaptation.

You don't like Robert DeNiro!??! He is my favorite actor! :p

Have you seen Heat? ;)

Catherine Zeta Jones - Chicago - Who knew she could sing and dance? Talented lady

Also, the girl who played Roxie Hart, she was pretty good too and I hated her in pretty much every movie previously.

Good topic though ;) I have had this happen often, I just need to remember..

I thought Cameron Diaz sucked (and I still don't like her much) until her brilliant role in Being John Malkovich.

I also HATE John Travolta but I respect him after Primary Colours.

David Spade, after "Dickey Roberts". It wasn't a widely recieved movie, but I thought it was hilarious.

Also Adam Sandler after Big Daddy and 50 First Dates. He finally gave up on the dick and fart jokes.

Jim Carrey. I am so completely over his style of humour, but then I saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I found that not only could I tolerate him, he was really good.

I've got to agree about Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich, I really don't like her, but she was amazing in this.

CB :)

robin williams after good will hunting and insomnia - good
ben affleck after daredevil and gigli - bad

I totally agree, I never thought Ben Affleck was particularly good but I really thought he sucked after Daredevil...fucking terrible movie!

Yay CB, I'm glad I'm not alone! :) I also DO NOT think she is attractive! I don't get why people like her so much.

I started liking Nick Cage after Face:Off, I'm (somewhat) ashamed to admit, given that I should really be giving love to him for his arthouse career (Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart).

I like Johnny Depp since Pirates of the Caribbean (or maybe Fear and Loathing), basically because he looks like he's enjoying himself incredibly.

If we're talking De Niro, let's talk the early stuff: King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull - classics all (am I the only person who likes King of Comedy? He was brilliant).

I've kinda liked Johnny Depp in pretty much everything hes done, I especially liked him in Fear and Loathing and Pirates :)

I thought Matt Damon was the better of the two in Goodwill Hunting. Then I saw The Talented Mister Ripley, and now I'll never like him again.

I still watched the Bourne Identity twice, but mostly because the lead female is fine as fuck.

Woody Allen, never really liked him much but Im sitting here watching Mighty Aphrodite and am really enjoying it.

Will Ferrell - I was 50/50 on him before watching Elf, now I like him as a movie actor.

The Talented Mr Ripley sucked ass - but the actors in it have since redeemed themselves in my eyes at least. Jude Law, in particular.

I totally agree about Ben Affleck - Daredevil totally ruined him for me, altho Chasing Amy didn't help matters :D

though i'd always *liked* him beforehand, twelve monkeys really opened my eyes up in regards to bruce willis - it seems he can act; i don't particularly love tom cruise, but i definitely appreciated him more after seeing magnolia; storytelling gave me a chance to see what a fine dramatic actress selma blair is, as before then i'd just thought her a moderately capable 'fluff' actress.

good thread topic :)

Jim Carrey, deffinetly. Brilliant in Man on the Moon, The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Mike Myers. Use to be one of my favorite comedians, problem is I grew up and his comedy hasn't. 3 Austin Powers? The Cat in the Hat? Stop the insanity.

"If we're talking De Niro, let's talk the early stuff: King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull - classics all (am I the only person who likes King of Comedy? He was brilliant)."

Not to mention Godfather II, perhaps his (or anyone's) best acting ever.
