melbourne shuffle

Heh, i do the melbourne shuffle X :) It's like a one way shuffle, then some jumping and kickin of the legs, then i spin around and shuffle the other way, mainly coz for some reason, i can't co-ordinate my right foot, so i can only shuffle from my left side to right :) i'm trying but it don't work completely right.. IMHO You dance the way you feel, i never copied anyone, i just tried, turned out i enjoyed sliding one way, then kickin my foot, and doing some freaky shit with my hands whilst doing it.. U b U and Dance how U Feel :)

I miss seeing you shuffle and also I miss you all together being on here.. get back to us soon!!!

Too fucking right. Dancing can be such a spectator sport... and before anyone bites my head off for hypocritically judging others, I'm talking purely about appreciating someone else who has it goin' on.

This is one of the reasons I dance about 2m behind and to the right of MrsCoaster, and always have :)

Nice posts ultraphine... not all oldskoolers are jaded bastards ;)

^ Lahlah taught me how to shuffle. I used to be able to go left to right, right to left. But recently I've been working on my arms and hands and now I can't co-ordinate my feet to go right to left.

Meh... I'll get over it.

ultraphine72 and jammer- u should contact http://www.melbourneshuffler.com/ (they r making a dvd doco). cuz im pretty sure they r only doing it on the new version of shuffle, and would be cool if they had some oldskool shuffle on there. and compare how its changed over the 15 years or so. would be cool too if they could track down the people/crew that started it.
jammer- where abouts do u normally go out to??? cuz id love to see u dance and have a chat/drink with ya.

also, they use to have shuffle lessons before kandy years ago. would be cool if they still had them. i never went, cuz im only just 18 now...
im not a very good shuffler, i dont really try. i just love watching the dj and watching people dance.
respect for the oldskool shufflers!

Hey bro, hehe, good to see the younger generation taking an interest in the 'ol shuffle. Well, coz I'm an old fucker (30 to be exact) and my mates are all old fuckers too, we pretty much hang out at all the old fucker hangouts (how shit does that sound???). When I was in my prime, the dome was te place to be and the music of the era was hard house, and hard trance was starting to become popular.

So to answer ur question, we're usually found at Viper on a Friday night and Evolution on a Sunday morning for recovery. We love our music with heaps of energy and drive and Evolution (IMHO) has the best high energy trax spun by the best Melbourne hardstyle DJ's (Kat, Murray Van Zaff, Charlie Z). The place is skanky as, the drinks are a rip off, but the music fkn rox ur ass and the girls are easy. :)

Funnily enuff, last night we went to ZOS as a few friends invited us down. As soon as we stepped into the place, all u could see were bare chested wogs (no offence to wogs, I am a wog too) doin the coke-head dance. Then the DJ dropped one of our fav trax (Nightbass DJ Team - Overdrive), so we thought, for a laugh, we'll jump in the middle of the dance floor and show the coke-heads how to shuffle. So we spilt 3 bottles of water on the floor and proceded to "carve up the dancefloor". Well we soon wiped the arrogant look off all the coke-heads faces as most of the chicks were intrigued by 3 shufflers tearing it up, in a club full of meat axes. It would have made an awesome "priceless" ad.

Now don't get the wrong idea, we're not old fogeys that wear phat pants and weild glow sticks. We're just ur garden variety jeans/funky t-shirt/runners/cap wearing wogs that look just like anyone, but in our hey day, we were ravers that loved to dance and some how lost track of time. :)

If anyone wants to catch up with us feel free to PM me and I'll be more than happy to have a drink/chat/boogie with u.

I can't see why anyone would want to go to Evolution. I've never been inside but I've seen the clientel it attracts and thats enough to put me off. From what I've heard from friends who have been it would poll well in Shittiest Club in Melb Awards.
I reckon better off going back to someones house for recovery and crankin some good choonz rather than going to a dirty ass club full of muzzas.

Beech out

To each their own dude, but you won't be crankin tunes like that, unless u can spin like Kat or Charlie, which I would bet my life on that u can't. I reckon the skankyness of the club might be part of the appeal.

But like I keep telling everyone who bags it... IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. :D

it's been the best part of 15 years since the first person commented on my dancing!

amazing where it's led.

Hehehehe... did u invent the shuffle spgeddi???
nah i copied it from the original s-express (theme from s-express) film clip, and it kinda developed from there... with and without my help.
true story! i have some that would back me up, and others whom would say i'm full of shit! i may have even been the first to talc the floor too! but i picked up that trick OS.

anyway, i was shuffling as early as 1992... and i never saw anyone else for many years.

I never even thought that I danced with a shuffle, but at an event a few years ago in Byron Bay, someone came up to me and asked if I was from Melbourne. He told me he could tell by the way I danced. Those of you that know me would vouch for the fact that I am not one to 'shuffle'.

Weird.

spgetti - Been sooo long dude, where you been?

I know of other "non-shufflers" this has happened too. I think maybe people from melbourne all have a little bit of shuffle in them, but when we talk about shufflers, we mean the extreme types, where as people not from melbourne can see the smallest bit of shuffle as being a "shuffler".

Why would anyone want to learn one of the (if not thee) most unoriginal, uninspired and just plain bad "dances" ever invented anyway? Seeing someone doing “the shuffle” makes me feel physically ill…
