Fuck this thread is a trip, ive been doin what people call the shuffle for a while i guess. I dont do it as much anymore cos like someone said earlier it gets to be murder on the knees and ankles. Ive always wanted to do a doco on the phenomena, its weird cos we always knew that we danced different from everyone else in the world but it seems now that melb is gettin the props it deserves. I started doin parties in melb about 1990 and the shuffle wasnt really big then, it was around the time pure moved from south melbourne to the back of the palace that people started to do this. I cant be sure but i think you could just about trace it back to two or three people who were pretty prominent dancers in the early nineties. It has alot to do with the people that made up the rave scene back then, there were alot of us who had been in other scenes where dancing was a big thing, for me it was breakdancing when i was a kid and northern soul and funk/rare groove as i got older that got me into clubbing and dancing. I still use alot of the moves today but i try and be a bit more original with it. Ive been living o/s for alot of the time in the last 7 yrs and believe me you can spot other people from melbourne a mile away. But a few tips if you want to learn.... watch other dancers and not just at clubs and parties, shit ive gotten moves from old musicals, james brown, old skool breakdancing, capoeira, kung fu, tap (a shitload of mad moves that work in a shuffle can be found in tap) and yes 120 mg of pure MDMA wont hurt either. But fuck most of all just enjoi it, it is the whole point of dancing. And after getting used to dancing thinking that no one is watching you, i find it heaps more fun dancing knowing that people are watching me and wondering who this old cunt is and what the fuck is he on???
