melbourne shuffle

sheesh

hmmn.. *sarcasm* "hey everyone.. I just saw this unique and cool dance style.. EVERYONE's doing it.. I gotta learn it!" LOL

guys: it's just one dance style. If you're going to try and copy this and then just dance like that all night regardless of what's playing then good on you: you might as well go fire up some backstreet boys (or hi5 for the truelly juvenile) or some other kiddy crap with pre-baked dance moves and dance in front of the video clip.

I thought it was a cool looking move when I saw the video, but jeez, get over it :) It's not the only thing you can do on the dancefloor. Just about every person I've seen doing it thinks that they're the best dancer on the planet because they can half do it..

This idea of practising a dance style is complete and utter WANK.. I wouldn't expect any decent party goer to be that far removed from the concept of just "going out and going hard" to seriously consider practicing dancing at home.

anyhow, that said, I always like to check out new styles on the DANCEFLOOR and encorporate them into my "bag o moves".. but seriously: if you're going to rehearse your night out of dancing: go "raving" in the US or something or else get a "try-hard" stamped on your forhead..
'nuff said!
:)

rimshot: nice one on the talc-covered kitchen floor - my GF and I live together, and we both shuffle, and a lot of hard trance gets played in the house... talc is banned, so there's a fair bit of kitchen-sock dancing, oh yes ;)

To all those people who bag newbies for wanting to learn the shuffle: get a life. They don't want to do it because they want to be like everyone else, they want to do it because it looks like a metric assload of fun to do.

That's because it is.

Likewise wanting advice. Some people aren't confident enough to just learn to dance on the fly, and that's OK. They'll never learn if they never dance out, and they'll never dance out if they feel like they look stupid (of course, they could just realise that nobody's actually watching 'cause we're all in our own little worlds, but I digress). Calling them losers for practicing is picking on the vulnerable, not showing how cool and individualistic you are.

How can anyone admit that a rehearsed dance routine is a prefferred way of dancing, to every track?

Are you saying that the Melbourne shuffle is a "routine"? I somehow suspect you haven't seen it done...

Well said joellercoaster. I can't afford to go out w'end after w'end so i dance a lot at home, and last time i checked there was noone to get any kinda inspiration from, hence the videos

well im a film student and am currently in the process of making a doco on the melbourne shuffle & melbournes rave culture...so i might post a link to download it here when im finished (should be totally edited in about 2 weeks....) then you can see some shufflin at its best!!!

nice one kryalkastlee. bout time someone did ;) Any other clips you know of already on the net? todays my one day off b4 HN3 (if you know what i mean...) so trying to pick up some more basic steps quick

Shoot me down if u want to... but...

I think there's about as many variations on the melbourne shuffle as there are people who perform it....

And it looks pretty cool... I mean i just came back from the thai islands where a lot of euros and americans like to doof and man, none of them can dance for shit...

I also think it's a good way to get fit and it's nice to practice at home too, that way when u do go out it doesn't take as long to find your rhythm...

did i mention i was first to shuffle?
actually it was eddi (about '92... i let him tell the story of where he stole and made pastiche of the basic shuffle moves), i swear... and he's still the best!

The tek in that video is pretty cool. I like the effects.

I am so sik dat I will out dance any muddafukkah on da sik dance floor.

Not.

But I like to shake my thing :)

Alot of people are soo into the melb shuffle these days, I just did it for fun, when a friend showed me, now I get asked sometimes to show strangers when Im out, I only the basic's, but that is fun too, I guess ppl like to think its only to fit in, but to me its all about making your own shit up, and doing that, if its a shuffle included then there is a shuffle whoopdy doo, its fun and I love doing it!!

ive grown up in ballet land... i still feel like and get told that i look like a ballerina when i walk... not to mention when i dance!!! i cant break the ideals of pointed feet and nice lines and posture from being so firmly indented in my head...

i say, the shuffle is cool... and i love watching people who do it, but combline some ballet with a bit of the shuffling action and uve got one hell'uve a dance!!! :D

I wonder if anyones walked up to a random person at a rave and said "wow you can do the Melbourne shuffle" it could be taken kinda insultingly... would just be enforcing the idea that everyones out there trying to replicate each other...

its just about dancing people... enjoying yourself :)

Hmmm...speaking of dancing, i never quite know what to do with my arms! They tend to just fling about and i know it shouldn't matter but i feel like such an unco cos they flop about and just look stupid! i think that the melbourne shuffle looks great and if i could do it, i would. does anyone have any suggestions on the arms!?:(

Dude just move them to the beat, maybe you might feel like using your elbow then bop your head to the music follow by a little shuffle with ya feet from side to side then maybe with ya elbow ( if ppl get me??) just move your arms around, get in the mood wit some glow sticks, watch others then try make up your own shit. I dunno what its like to be unco, coz Ive been a dancer all my life so cant help ya there..

Running man

Has anyone noticed lately people dancing a style called the running man? it kinda looks like u are like u are walking on the spot to the beat! Some of my mates have got it down and it looks awesome when going really hard. combinations of lots of different styles looks the best IMHO=D
