alright, i knew there was gonna be a thread similar to what i wanted. dude, i have a fucking crack in my bluedot. where the male piece goes into the bong, on the actual main bong piece, only a few millimeters away from the edge of the hole for the male piece. and few cm long crescent crack. bong works 100% perfect and has for over a month. the crack showed up right away after getting this bong, and i haven't really bothered with it. but once it reaches the the edge of the hole--only a few mm away--i am going to be in trouble. i want some miracle shit like described above. i did not spend 100+ on glass on glass to be smoking glue. but jesus. this tiny, centimeter long crack that showed up right away is going to ruin this bong? i cant really afford that.

i would apply the glue to the outside of the bong. my mind goes to straight epoxy. or marine grade epoxy; you know, just the best shit the have at the hardware store. anyone have exp with this? if this is not 100% perfect, fuck it. ill just use the bong till it breaks and then somehow replace. i smoke too much to not have a perfect piece. i just want to know if i can somehow fix this fucking inch long crack in my otherwise new bluedot?

i realize just going to the hardware store and looking and asking is the answer, but i figure i might ask well ask incase someone has the perfect solution. or really it is just probably the start of the end of the piece. must be a common tragedy. what bullshit, i had a bigger, better bluedot that i kept so long i had to give it away when i moved. oh well.

If it's glass and it chips you can fix it easily enough with sandpaper (actually a wet belt is ideal if you have access to one).
 
Cutting Downstem to Length

First of all, if there is already a thread about this I apologize, I used the forum search and could not find anything, but if there is please feel free to let me know and point me in the right direction, and / or delete / close the thread.

That being said:

There doesn't seem to be much information on this out there, so I thought I would start this thread. I recently broke the straight downstem into my Ehle bottleneck ashcatcher. While searching around for a replacement, I found good deals on downstems, but they all came in 12-14-16cm sizes. I was wondering how I could cut a downstem without using an expensive glass downstem cutter. What are people's methods for cutting down a straight downstem?

Two methods I have heard of are:
1. Using a very fine grit sandpaper and slowly sanding it down.
2. The String method (Tying a gasoline soaked string around the downstem where you wish to cut it, lighting it, and once it heats up sticking it in ice cold water, making it break off easily)

I have not tried these methods yet, but I wanted to get the ball rolling.
PLEASE do not tell me where to find good deals on a new downstem, I already purchased a new one (cut to size).

It would be a million times easier to just make a mold. That bong looks like it would break in 2 seconds
 
get some super strength acid like sodium hydroxide get a polyethylene tube the size you want to melt the hole.Some how stick the tube onto the glass and tip acid in and wait for it to burn through...i dono just a stoned thought.You can get drill bits that cut through glass.....
 
The video says that boiling water removes all the minerals...pray tell how this magic works?

Curiosity, yes there is a megathread for this stuff, here it is. We don't allow prices for paraphenalia in CD, I edited your post. If I were you, I'd go with your heat/cool idea, but dip it alternately into boiling/freezing water rather than fucking around with burning string.

JS, NaOH is a base, not an acid. Would probably work, but I water is cheaper and easier to get.

Smoking out of Tin Foil: Bad? Myth or Fact?

This is something that has been bothering me for quite a while. Is it really bad to smoke out of tin foil/Aluminum foil? Back in the day, I used to smoke out of tinners and aluminum cans almost exclusively. I've since matured into using real pipes, but this question still lingers. I've heard so many different things, there seems to be no consensus on the matter. This seems to be one of the more persistent stoner tall tales I've heard, and yet one I can't seem to find any conclusive proof on.

Is it bad to smoke out of tin foil? Is it bad to smoke out of aluminum foil? Is it bad to smoke out of pop cans? Mostly I'm curious about this pipe I have, that the hole has gotten eaten away over time and it makes it hard to clean/gets ashy. I used to have a chunk of tin foil stuck in it to make the hole smaller. If tin foil isn't okay, is there anything else you'd recommend that might be able to help my situation?

Any input would be appreciated.
 
High levels of aluminum in the brain is correlated with alzheimers. Correlation is not causation, stop spreading the myth that aluminum causes alzheimers!

Aluminum doesn't vapourise to an appreciable extent in atmospheric conditions, it will melt and oxidise/"burn" to form aluminum oxide though (alumina). Inhaling fine particulates of alumina probably isn't healthy, but nor is smoking any plant matter in the first place.

Aluminum metal and aluminum oxide aren't absorbed by the body to any extent.
