LSD - Not what I expected?

Some people see things and some people don't. I get really disappointed when I dont have immersive visuals on a psychedelic. For me its part of the beauty.

I've done trips where the visuals were zero & others were getting really visual effects from the same dose. I dunno what to put that down to - but it's happened to me now & again. Maybe for some reason it just doesn't connect at the receptors "just so" or some such thing? Maybe it's set & or setting ?

^ same here, visuals used to be a rarity, but they come on thick and fast now.

Certainly no pink elephants, though some pink Jack Russels now and again!

I think that has to do with set and setting. One time I was tripping on only one hit and the visuals became so intense that I couldn't distinguish objects in front of me. A few days later I ate 3 off the same sheet and the only visual effects that stood out were trails which always occur. I have to zone out kind of, or focus on something for visuals to manifest themselves or intensify I find, which is way easier when there is some novelty to the experience.

This argument is pretty pointless. LSD makes you see things that aren't there aka hallucinations.

Watching chandelier shadows moving in 3D space around the room like octopus tentacles is hallucinating. Straight up.

By true hallucinations he means things that you believe are there that aren't.

dont mind me just passing through . . .

Is this a semantic argument about what a hallucination is or an argument about whether you can see things that aren't there on LSD?
First one, I don't give a flying fuck about, second one has already been answered.

Hm, last time I did a large dose of LSD I had some nice open-eye visuals. A few nights ago before we had this annoying streak of cold and rain, it was warm and windy out so I decided to trip outdoors. The trees movement in the wind turned into the trees moving on their own and the branches growing outward and downward and spiraling around and the "rabbit" and the "face" on the moon seemed so surreal and the grass around my feet seemed to be growing around me and... shit, I love Lucy... But yea, never heard of actual LSD making you see things that aren't there, just seriously altering what you see that is there, if that makes any sense...
Now, if you buy some dirty acid, then yea, you might see some shit that isn't there... Of course, dirty acid, by that I mean, not-LSD but more likely some RC or a mix of both, isn't always fun and in my opinion nowhere near as nice as good ole Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds...
And damn, I'm startin to feel reeeal good, heh, keep gettin this feeling that I'm not makin sense tho, so I'm jus gonna sign off now... bye bye

^ Most things that fit on the blotter are less capable of producing complex visualizations than LSD IMO.

Personally, I'm sure "true hallucinations" on LSD are possible. They're just extremely rare.

Now tryptamines, that's a whole different ballgame! Mushrooms can take you to incredibly complex visual landscapes and show you amazing things.. Plus I could easily imagine believing that shit is real in some of those head trips they can force you into. And DMT - well I haven't tried it yet, but if that doesn't sound like an incredibly potent hallucinogen, then what does?

Pointless semantic argument anyway... moving on

To the OP: Don't worry about it at all. The visuals can sometimes be a hit and miss, especially first times. Also this can vary greatly from trip to trip - personally I find that sometimes when I get into a strong mental trip kinda thing, the visuals tend to fade to the background to the point where I can go without noticing them for hours.. And that's at medium doses (200-300mcg), which can sometimes be incredibly visual for me. Personally, I usually tend to enjoy the mental effects more anyway.. Although some visual bonus never hurts :) Anyway, don't sweat it, also don't be expecting too much, just make sure you're in a good mindset and comfortable setting and drop away =D

I did it for the first time a few weeks ago, and I didn't get any real visuals, just colours were alot more vivid and existing patterns looked amazing somehow. The euphoria was amazing though, superior to MDMA even at times. I'm guessing higher doses result in proper visuals?

I was with my friend today, it was his first time ever taking LSD. He took 1.5 hits, and chewed up the Sweettart (it was dropped on there and then dried, then was in the refrigerator for a night then taken) and held all of the candy under his tung for a while and then swallowed. I'm pretty sure this is the correct way, but correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways, he said he felt a massive euphoria, and he felt like he was in a new land that he has newly discovered, but he didn't see like stuff popping out and lights inverting and the weird stories I've always heard. I have never had LSD before, and I'm planning on taking 2 hits this Friday, is this what I'm supposed to expect, or do most people actually see visuals? It kind of feels like a let down that I won't see stuff "popping" at me and seeing pure hallucinations like I've always heard, but his trip seemed like he had a blast.
SweeTarts aren't a good absorbing agent. Stick to blotter and sugar cubes if you want visuals. And of course, the best ever is liquid.

But, it'll never be full on hallucinations unless you have family history of schizophrenia and such. You hallucinate on LSD, just not in the way that Fear and Loathing describes.... unless you've taken a massive amount.

first time i dropped acid i didnt have any visuals. i did it in the morning. was kinda disappoineted so i gave it a try later in the afternoon (LOL!). This time i had some pretty nice visuals. but nothing too special. it was half a hit tough.

This is from a medical site and it also doesn't say it has to be something you can't distinguish from reality, it just says
"Hallucinations are false or distorted sensory experiences that appear to be real perceptions. .

If the perception appears to be real then doesn't that mean you can't distuinguish it from reality?

Think about it.

Additionally, at very high, totally immersive doses of tryptamines, I have certainly experienced things which I thought were really there, such as entities approaching and interacting with me. Just because you haven't doesn't mean no one has.

The thing is I don't think this is an accurate representation of the psychedelic experience for the vast majority of people. I don't believe the majority of people who take LSD will see 3D aliens appearing in front of them with their eyes open. So why tell everyone that "If you take LSD you see aliens appear in front of you with your eyes closed"? The overwhelming majority won't. Certainly no-one I've ever met has see aliens appear in the room.

What is with your obsession with trying to force your own opinions on everyone anyway? Just accept that different people have different experiences and move on

I'm not trying to force my opinion on anyone more than you're trying to force your opinion on me. Do you want me to say "Yeah, you see 3D aliens talking to you in the room with you on acid" when hardly anyone does? I'll buy you a pint if we ever meet X but by golly I won't agree with something I think is inaccurate.

The vast majority of people who take psychedelics arn't going to see 3D aliens in front of them with their eyes open. End of story. I'm willing to accept that there are a minority of people who can see things that arn't there - but I question whether that's got as much to do with their own imagination than the LSD.

Could we have a poll on this and get some idea of how many people have seen a living 3D entity appear in front of them after taking psychedelics so we can check how common it is?
