Harm Reduction IV Product Review Thread

I really dont think somoen should be IV'ing drugs/medications if they have to worry about reaching "deep veins". There are plenty of veins that dont require a long needle to reach and inject properly....and if you have ruined all of those veins over years of IV use, than its probably best still to stop IV'ing.

Also....when your using longer(and consequntly thicker) needles to IV "deeper" veins....yuor putting yourself at risk of accidentaly shooting into an artery and/or causing much more severe track mark that could more easily lead to infection and deadly blood-born diseases.

EDIT: Has anyone ever ordered the Terumo 30G 3/10cc 3/8" syringes from getpinz.com(gpzservices.com)?? I'm curious to know how they are, i'm starting to get to the point where a 1cc syringe is way to big/

These are my spike of choice. I pay $0.14 for each at my local CVS. VERY smooth push/pull but slightly less sharp than BD. I don't miss the plunger cap, always forgot to replace it anyway :)

Interestingly, I register slightly easier with BDs, but ended up partially missing my shots often. This was because I had to push hard on the plunger and as a result, end up outside of the vein.

Easy Touch Insulin Syringe 3/10cc 31G 5/16" 100ct.

I am posting this review because previously i gave EasyTouch a very poor review and this one is slightly better.

I purchased this box from researchsupply.net for ~$13. The syringes come in packages of 10 with needle/plunger caps.

The issue i had with the 1cc EasyTouch's were that each 10 pack had 2-3 needles without the caps on them! Some packs with needles protruding the packaging. Absolutely unacceptable, i tried to contact them with no response.

For whatever reason (monetary in reality) i decided to give the smaller size a try.

They seemed to have improved on the design as there are ridges on both caps to secure the cap to the syringe and there was not a single open needle (as if thats a great feature).

The needle sharpness is not great, BD's are way sharper and use sturdier steel. I would not re-use these.

I will note that their QC is not perfect as i actually got a syringe with a needle that was not beveled at all, it was actually just a metal cylinder with no sharpness at all! I also got a syringe that the graduations were all fu cked up. 2 out of 100 isn't bad.

I give the EasyTouch 3/10cc 31G 5/16" syringes a 7 out of 10 and i will not buy these again.

The best syringe i have ever used remains the BD 3/10cc 31G 5/16" needle as it is the sharpest, smoothest, and perfect size. Alas it is very expensive to buy them and i get 28G BD's from my needle exchange for free.

EasyTouch 1cc 29g 1/2" insulin syringes

Pros:
Cheap
30/30 were in perfect working order
Ok for single use

Cons:
Dulls quicker then most
Metal seems shitty compared to Terumo
Plunger action is so smooth that if you pull back to register and dont hold the plunger, it springs right back into place. A little too smooth for my liking.

Ordering Terumos next..

^^ Have you tried holding the plunger up for a second or two before moving your finger to push the shot down? Its most likely pulling back down from pressure, you gotta wait for it to equalize. That usually worked for me when i had syringes that did that anyway. If that doesn't work then i don't what the issue is for you.

Na beleive me I had 30 of these fuckers every single one is the same...the plunger action is so smooth there is little to NO resistance so when the vacuum is created the plunger will not hold in place ..its just the brand. Terumo, BD, Kendall...they all hold in place. These you have to hold back no matter how long you wait/how far you pull back. It's a poor design, really cheap shitty pin IMO.

They are still easy to register with and crap it was just annoying switching from terumo which i get free from the needle exchange to these fuckers which i bought lol.

^^ Ah okay i hadn't thought of the fact that it could just be sliding back down due to gravity, so it's falling down not being pulled down by vacuum pressure. That definitely is way to little resistance, I wouldn't like that.

This isn't a review but a question about IV Products.

Are there syringes with a shorter barrel available?

It seems like all the syringe products have similar / identical length barrels, regardless of holding capacity. They seem to have larger/smaller diameters instead of being longer or shorter.

I think many people who inject into their hands could benefit from a shorter syringe, so that they when filled with the chosen amount of water / solution, the syringe would ultimately be shorter than the same amount of water / solution in a standard length syringe.

And shorter length = greater control, but at the same time less diluted solutions = more damaging to veins, which generally deters me from only using 5 / 10 / 15 units of water.

Review: Sterlitech .2 PVDF Micron Filter 30mm

I bought a bag of 50 PVDF wheel filters from Sterlitech. They came all in one bag, not individually wrapped, but seemed to be just what I wanted in theory. They were very inexpensive - $1.00 each plus shipping - so the lot of 50 came out to about $58.00.

I wasn't very impressed with the filters themselves. I've used 40 of them, and there have been two major problems.

First, and slightly less importantly, in the batch of 40 there have been 3 to 4 filters (so an average of +/- 10% ) that were wholly defective and let unfiltered solution pass through. This can be extremely annoying if you happen to be batch-filtering and you filter with the defective filter into a vial of pre-made solution. You have to go back and re-filter everything.

The second and more annoying problem with these filters was the overall quality. Obviously, I bought 'em because they were cheap and I was hoping they'd meet my needs. But the damn things, as soon as they start to get clogged and require even slight pressure, start to split apart at the side seams. Your precious solution drips out from the sides of the filter onto the floor, your fingers, the counter...everywhere but in the vial. And that sucks big time.

This issue of the filter leaking happened to approx 90% of the filters. There were maybe 3 or 4 that DIDN'T start to leak after 1ml of solution or so.

I liked the price, the size and the top/female end of the filter has a good, secure attachment to the syringe end. But if a good percentage of a solution is going to leak out and be wasted, I cannot recommend these to anyone.

At this point, because I happen to shoot a lot of Opana IR, I'm looking for a really good wheel filter that can handle a lot of particulate matter. I'm leaning toward the Whatman GP/X and am wondering if anyone has a current supplier that they use for these that they would recommend.

I am overall impressed with the individually wrapped Terumo 29G 1CC 1/2".

I am mostly impressed with Monoject 31G 1CC 5/16", as well as the 1/2 CC model. I just find that sometimes there are minor defects with them, like some of the needles are too far in, others are bent, but they aren't any worse than the bad defect BD's I have had to pay for in the past.

I got these for free from the exchange.

I have MONOJECTs right now because that's all the nearest pharmacy had, and I am not sure if we're using the same gear, but mine are individually wrapped 31g 5/16" 1cc rigs and they are by far the shittiest syringes I have ever used. The plunger sticks sooo bad, I don't know how you can do it. I can only use them with my right hand because the amount of force required to register/ shoot is so great that I end up tearing through my vein with my less steady left hand.

The last great needles I had were actually the Easy-Touch one's that started off the thread - 29g 1cc long tip. Perfect. Great plunger action, sharp, didn't have a single defective one in 2 boxes.

BD 27g 1 1/4" Precision Glide Needle:
I brought these home from work after misreading the length of the needle. Needless to say, I think it's highly unlikely that someone would buy of box of these intentionally (although they ARE cheap...they're something like $7 for a box of 100 on Amazon).

I find these to be very very difficult to use not because of size (I'm accustomed to using 27g, so although some of you seem to think it's like jamming a fire-hose into your veins, I think it's ok). Well, they are just too damn long. But the worst thing about them is the color of the barrel. These needles have an opaque white base. It's rubbish for seeing blood when you jack back. Also, the crazy long length seems to make it about 100x more likely that the needle with clog with your blood.

Otherwise, the BD quality is good. The needles are sharp, individually wrapped and securely capped, and I didn't find a defective one in the lot.

Whatman .2um GD/X PVDF 25mm Sterile Syring Filter (Box of 50)

On Amazon.com, I ordered a box of 50 Whatman GD/X filters and paid an additional $10 for "2 Day Shipping" (regular shipping was free). I received my filters this morning, less than 15 hours after I ordered them.

I've used Whatman filters before, but only the fixed pore sizes of .45 and .22 - this is my first time using the GD/X which has gradating layers of filter sizes built in. Since I filter the generic oxymorphone (Opana) 10mg IR, which contain VAST amount of filler, I've been having a lot of problems trying to filter even 1ml of a cotton-filtered solution. Not anymore! The GD/X filters kick ass!

So far, I filtered 10 pills through one filter, and it has not clogged. The solution comes out absolutely clear, every single pink particle removed. I am truly thrilled. I know that these filters were reviewed by another user, but I wanted to add my experience.

Everything about my initial experience with the Whatman GD/X is positive. The shipping was super fast. They came packaged securely in a sealed box of 50, containing a pamphlet of information about the filters. The filters themselves are individually sealed. They have far exceeded my hopes for them. The only thing these filters are not is cheap. The box of 50 cost me $167.

=D

I find that the equivalent BD brand can be just as bad.

The plungers are very stiff but I prefer some stiffness over a totally loose plunger.

The Terumo 29G 1CC 1/2" individually wrapped ones I have (also without plunger caps) is a very slippery plunger, akmost no ease needed to register with them.

Whatman GD/X are absolutely the best possible micron to use, the only problem i have with them (the 25mm? size) is that they hold about 1.5ml of solution inside the filter.

Keep your guys' eyes out on ebay, about 2 years ago i found a guy that sold me 150 of the 25mm size 0.2um whatman GD/X for $50, it was the best deal ever, and they came in the original box. I've been using about 2-3 ever month for the last 2 years. Definitely the way to go if you can find it.

BD Ultra-Fine II 31g 5/16" syringes are my absolute favorite to use still, they are just the most expenisve. For my money, the monoject 31g are very good.

Hey CH, you're the man.

So I wanted to get some advice, I usually use 29 g 1/2 but lately haven't been able to hit, I feel like I am going through the vein, because I will have a hard time registering #1 but when I do i push and its starts to burn, of course I take it out but man! I used to hit easy, i also think the registering problem might be from me entering too slow. I have never tried a short 5/16 before any tips? Tricks of the trade? i have pretty big veins and quite a few that I have never seem to hit, such as my right forarm, it feels like when I enter I am hitting muscle or something cause it starts ok then all the sudden its like tightness. UGH.
