Is Bluelight dying ?

Not open for further replies.
I've been reading Blue light threads for years now and finally signed up a month and a half ago.. To be honest it's a little disappointing to have a lot of questions go unanswered.. 98% of the people that I know don't know about my drug use and I thought I had finally found a place where I belong.. But once I started posting my own threads I noticed I wasn't getting many responses.. (and I've posted in a few sections I thought were popular).. I'm not a hardcore drug user.. Mainly MDMA, weed, alcohol and recently contemplating cocaine use... I've shared my experiences with other drugs I've tried and offered advice based off of my knowledge and usage of other drugs I've done.. But I don't seem to be getting the same in return..

Have you tried New Members introductions yet?

I hope you haven't had too much bother round here for lack of responses. I'm sorry that's been your experience so far. Well, You're here now so WELCOME! I'm sure you'll get a few responses round here hopefully. If that doesn't work just make another post starting with "OI DIPSHITS, I ASKED A QUESTION HERE.... Gonna help a person out? " That might get someones attention. Feel free to post in threads around EADD or start your own if you can't find an existing one that helps with your queries. We are here answer questions.

I've never been into a BL "official" chat.

It takes away from the discussion which is open and transparent for all to see on an open forum whether you are a member and engaged or a lurker. And lets face it live chat is possibly too tempting re sourcing / dealing. Not what BL is about - is it?

I kinda can see how it looks like the forum is dying - but does it need to be huge, millions of posters etc? Can't quality be better? Good information and user dialogue. It may be worth evaluating what success means for BL, it's not all about fast social chit chat and lols. So what if there's other better platforms for that out there. BL has a niche to serve and can do it better than anyone else, if it thinks about it's main ethos - harm reduction.

How HR is delivered should not be dependant on competition or popularity. It needs to be sound, high quality, pertinent advice.

I strongly support BL's relationship with MAPS and any other organisation with a strong scientific background to provide that knowledge and leadership in HR.

Druggy live-chat can happen in a million spaces online these days, it would be sad to see BL go down that trashy route. I feel it would be pretty worthless to BL as an organisation.

Well said Miss K. It serves its purpose. That's not to say a bit of fast and furious chit chat isn't welcome but that sort of thing has to be public chat for all to see so that everyone can be involved. Having a "private" chat feature would just open up all kinds of cans full of nasty worms. Static chat might be slower at times but at least you can catch up and it's all public. Be it good or bad it's all there for everyone to read in their own leisure.

The kind of thing I was thinking of in regards to a live chat was, something along the lines of a public 'chatbox' on each sub forum such as EADD. Just a small locked window (that's still attached to the main parent window) that can be minimized, or closed. I agree with many of Koneko's thoughts too however.

It is an unfortunate fact that it is the standard of moderation that makes or breaks a forum -- how well one manages to tread the fine line between censorious Nazi and Troll Enabler. Nobody's perfect, of course; but with more than one of us on the go, the fuck-ups tend to cancel out.

Live chat would have to be unmoderated (but with possible retrospective discipline, with the ability for users to highlight questionable material within the logs; and perhaps also a "positive report" feature, to highlight material that deserved to be made available for longer than the live chat format permitted.) I actually vaguely remember writing some PHP and JavaScript to do something like this purely in the web browser and on the server, with no proprietary client required. If I can find it, you're welcome to hack it into the VBulletin source code :)

Anyway, ultimately it's all about the content, not the format. The Gibberings thread has been known to be almost like a form of live chat, when multiple users have been online at the same time. And good Harm Reduction information is good Harm Reduction information, however it be delivered. It was good when it came on flickery monochrome character-mapped terminals, and it's just as good now it's coming on a variety of desktop, laptop, mobile and wearable devices that, one day, will seem just as archaic as green-screen terminals seem to the kids of today ..... And it will still be every bit as good then.

Have you ever thought of a name change?
It has the same name as the under 18's age disco's (organised by the men in blue of my local area growing up, bloody khunts make me and who ever else has been paranoid on posting certain information on the site thinking that the police are using this site as Info Gathering :p
Won't matter anyway soon we will be all fighting in WW3 according to the anon group WW3 is about to start, I rekon if a war doesnt happen they will lose nearly everyone's respect

Some (if not mostly all) of my questions have been aimed towards harm reduction.. While I have been actively involved in drugs for years (10+), I've not given it much thought in terms of asking others for advice.. Mainly because I've been lurking on blue light for answers.. But when I can't find an answer for my specific questions, I turned to the forum to answer specifics.. And as I said before.. It sucks not getting advice from people who might know way more than I do about certain things..

Ask away then hunnie. Not all sub forums on BL have the same dynamic. Usually people get their questions answered pretty quickly in EADD. If you've got anything thats on your mind have a crack at it in here. Chances ( pretty much 99.9% of a chance ) someone can and will help you with that here. Do you have anything that is particularly on your mind at the moment?

Julie, I can see what you're saying about live chat being totally unmoderated. It would be difficult to moderate such a thing as, in the instance of spamming, on the spot. Once people start filling up the page like the spam folder of your email box, full of viagra and all sorts of advertising ) it's hard to shut the flood gates. Sure you might be able to delete such a thing in live chat but once its there people have already seen it. This is not a hook up site as it were but damn sure people will try and use it as such. They've been trying for years to sell drugs on here. This is not what BL is about.
So, I guess whilst Live chat might be nice in some sort of personal forum it would not be good in a place like BL. Our function isn't to chit chat and talk shite, it is to offer HR advice and support.

And nobody is going to mind you setting up a thread here to use as a "secure back-channel" in conjunction with an off-site chat service, provided you mention clearly that Bluelight staff are not responsible for anything that happens there. (If you ask someone using the external chat service to post in a Bluelight thread and they don't, that could well mean they are not who they say they are .....) Internet-use Harm Reduction is just as valid as drug-use HR.

I introduced myself on the new members thread and got no replies at all for ages.
Lots of people banging on about harm reduction and helping people,, well here's a tip,, it would be a good idea to see if new members are ok,, some will join in desperate need of help and the poor responce just makes the site feel really unwelcoming.
I wasn't in state when I joined here as I been clean ages but others will be.

That sucks that you've had that experience. Hopefully that's not always the case for everyone. Lets face it, humans are ignorant at the best of times. People suck. We can only hope that we suck in the best possible ways ;)

I still get the same feeling and iv been a member 9 years, Not nearly as many post as you will have once you reach as long as I, When I 1st had enough posted reply to start my own topic I was thrilled until it took forever for anyone to realize I had started a thread. Then also it just takes time and sometimes just luck to create a popular thread. Those days are way behind me trying to be popular in a drug forum.
I'v never seen BL as harm reduction, There a loads of ways to improve BL, I have applied before to become admin/mod whatever you call it but never got any response yet I have some great ideas to help this forum. Maybe should start a sister site called laser lights and this can be where the people who just want to post about the fun things about drug's and everything else

Perhaps down to your winning personality?

Perhaps, I've not looked up this members introduction post. Until I do, I'll just take things at face value. Everyone has one chance to make a first impression. it takes only a moment to make that first impression . Was it the right one? If slagging people off is the first impression you give but not one you wish to be known for, then you're going to spend years changing that impression of you ever at all. Saying that, everyone should keep an open mind.

Yeah I wonder that I have must come across negativily here on BL in a way that nobody like's me or has any interest in me really because nobody has ever sent me a friend request :( I get maybe 1-5 everyday on face book and iv only 350 friends there who are actual people iv meet, bad comparison! just has made me wonder why I have to always ask others to be friends.
I guess there is no real point in being friends on BL?? are there any special features for friends?

Nope. Only 'Friends' feature I can think of is that there's a little '*' next to your 'friend's' names right at the bottom of the main forum page where it lists who is currently online. That's it
Hence being a not especially popular feature.

Very interesting Julie. A few years ago, I would have been up to that challenge! I'm as rusty as Salad Fingers rusty spoon now. Would be cool to take a look at that if you find it though ;)

Shambles
You think you could tell my personality from my one and only post on the site?? Fuckin bell end.
